Am I the only one who is shocked to find out the amount of influence America has over Egypt? Even in the news I keep hearing about Americans advising Mubarak to quit gracefully.

From what I know, America does provide Egypt some military assistance. But, does it really have the influence every one is talking about?

No one else in the world can achieve what the Jewish people have in terms of influence/person. Seriously we East Asians outnumber the jews 2:1 in the US and we have no where NEAR the political power they weld in the US. Kudos to them I say.

60 billion does get you a little more than just a foot in the door. Note though the advising, Mubarak will do what Mubarak thinks best and the US can advise all they like if he thought he could tough it out he would have.

the holocaust, as horrible as it was, helped re-awaken them and realize that if they dont unite then they are ''doomed''....

what's better....a million man army with old WWII era equipments or a small army of 185,000 with extremely modern arms and very efficient -with good command structure and sound judgement

I found this comment offensive. What do you means 1 Jew is better than two "Asian"? Be all you can be and sky is the limit is only theory. There is never a leveled ground. Besides, many Asians came out there working as coolie, whereas only things Jews have to do is to draw a circle.

I have no idea what you are talking about but I meant no offense, all I wanted to say was the Jewish community in the US is much more organized than the Chinese or the greater Asian community.

You are giving AIPAC more credit than is actually due. Contrary to popular belief, its not the AIPAC which holds the reigns of power, its not the AIPAC which "endorses" certain candidates to become President or get elected to public office. Is the protestant Church (IIRC the presbyterian Churches) goers in the Bible belt who hold the keys to that power.

AIPAC is just a political entity whose sole interest is to foster good relations between US govt and Israel. Israel's greatest supporters are not the Jews in US but the ordinary Christians who strongly believe that the second coming of Christ is very near!

People here are blindly and ignorantly blaming the US Jews for US foreign policies, when infact its the US citizens who clearly drive its foreign policies!

Its actually Hosni Mubarak who has played US all this time. When he took over after the assassination of Anwar Sadat, he consolidated power through an endless emergency, effectively stifling political opposition by systematically arresting and outlawing opponents. The Muslim Brotherhood - the parent organization of Al-Queda - took root underground, so in effect Mubarak created ideal conditions for Muslim Brotherhood to thrive. So then Mubarak played the terrorist card effectively putting himself as the secular bulwark against the rise of MB terrorism in Egypt. US had no choice but support him.
