ISMC Announces Setting Up Of India's First Semiconductor Fab In Karnataka At An Investment Of $3 Billion

As far as I can make out and from what I have read in the newspaper he must be using the team he arranged to create the Cowin platform to use its experience to create a platform which aggregates traditional provision stores and perhaps other goods and service provides in the manner of the taxi and autorickshaw aggregators - Ola and Uber. Am I going in the right direction ?
Yes, but it's much more diverse, innovative and it's non-profit platform. Similar platform can be created for cab aggregation also. This is first of its kind platform like UPI.

Taxi / cab same thing that I implied. :)

But in that case :

1. What do you mean by non-profit ?

2. How will the platform physically deliver the goods ? Will it use the Porter delivery service or will it have its own transport vehicles ?

3. Does it intend to compete with Bigbasket, Big Bazaar and Zepto ?

It will not only compete with these companies, but also facilitate them. Any e-commerce platform, delivery companies, small businesses, individual sellers, farmers, kirana shops, manufacturing companies, payment services companies all can participate to create a mutual chain of services to facilitate buyers.

1. OK about the rest of your post but am confused by the underlined.

2. I must also again ask about how the goods from the kirana shops will be delivered to the buyers.

1. These companies can integrate ONDC in their platform to facilitate a larger option for their customers, this will save their warehousing costs, acquisition costs and more availability of products. Similarly they can also list their products from their platforms on ONDC to reach a bigger pool of customers.

2. 100s of delivery companies, local people, even you can list yourself as delivery partner at ultra local level. Even kirana shops, shopping malls, mandis can hire people to service their local customers and tie up with delivery companies for outstation customers.

If left without proper oversight and regulation, this seems to be highly susceptible to quality or delivery issues and fraud.

Hmm, interesting. So ONDC can become a one-stop shop you mean.

The below's my concern too :
If left without proper oversight and regulation, this seems to be highly susceptible to quality or delivery issues and fraud.

Challanges are there, solutions will be there too. Regulation and accountability should be top priority with mandatory adhaar biomatric systems or similar AI innovations.

Let's not give up on the Idea. UPI also had a sceptical journey and now it has wiped out big multinational companies from Indian market.

Applied Materials has purchased land and has leased office space in India. Semiconductor Equipment manufacturing plant and R&D centre?
Wow first Tower Semiconductor, now Applied Materials. Let the ball rolling.

Not to mention water usage. Water situation in India is tight. Where will these folks get the ultra pure water in large quantities? Agriculture will suffer.

Good that you mention that because this plant being set up in Mysore surely means diversion of human-usable water and agriculture water. Does Mysore have enough extra water ?

I'm thinking if it will be economically feasible for coastal cities to install desalination plants powered by offshore windmills exclusively for industrial use. Surely, the set up will be capital intensive. But it can be economically feasible if the debt servicing cost can be offset by tax revenue from direct employment 🤔

Most of India is water challenged. Only parts of north east are suited with abundant water from rain fall. But then those are neglected and unstable parts. A large enough water harvesting operation and reservoirs can surely provide all the pure water locally.

Actually if North East can be made politically stable, its a great place for semi-conductor operations. Water is in plenty from massive rains. Electricity in plenty can be obtained by importing it cheaply from Nepal --who is always looking to sell more of it.

It will be too expensive to generate water this way.
