ERBIL: The Islamic State (ISIS) group has banned residents of Mosul from performing Eid-ul-Fitr prayer, one of the most important Muslim feasts, controversially claiming the practice does not belong in the religion.

Rudaw quoted Ismat Rajab, a Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) official for Mosul saying that the radical group has warned residents to avoid prayers for Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan in about a week.

He said ISIS was claiming that the Eid prayer is not “originally an Islamic practice” and was not performed in Prophet Mohammad’s time.

Since the ISIS takeover of Mosul last year, the jihadis have been imposing new rules and regulations, backed by strict punishments that include the threat of death for offenders.

Eid al-Fitr, also called the Feast of Breaking the Fast, is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic month of fasting.

Although a religious practice, the prayer preformed on the first day after Ramadan also is a cultural event.

The militant faction that has taken over large parts of territory in Iraq and Syria has reportedly given a forewarning to the residents and warned them from offering Eid prayers claiming that it is not ‘originally an Islamic practice’ having no evidence to be performed during Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) era.

The group attained control of Mosul last year and since then it has been taking in constant alterations in the area, imposing new orders and principles.

It has further been accused of enforcing strict punishments on anyone showing renunciation in following their rules, including death penalty for offenders.

Islamic state :rofl::rofl:

. . . .
Yeah, I did read it but I didn't find why isis against this! Is it not related to Ramadan?

Is it like Hari Raya which Muslims in Malaysia, SG and Indonesia celebrate?
Muslims offer prayers after iftar in this month of ramzan..the imaam who leads the prayer completes reading quran in this by reading a few verses daily..this is called taraweeh..Muslims who offer prayers have to stand for 2 hours daily in mosques doing prayers.that is the reason 90 percent of Muslims world wide don't offer this prayer..go to any mosque and you can't see more than 30 members there..this prayer was a later invention..this was not there in Muhammad's time as he did not complete writing it(or should I say he was forced to stop continue writing it because of his death),so how could he recite it in month long prayers?

Haven't you heard above post? It simply says:
Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) official Ismat Rajab revealed the militant group which has taken over large swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria has warned residents from offering Eid prayers claiming that it is not “originally an Islamic practice” and was not performed in Prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) time.

But Wikipedia says:

Eid al-Fitr was originated by the Islamic prophet Muhammad. It is observed on the first of the month of Shawwal at the end of the month of Ramadan, during which Muslims undergo a period of fasting.

According to certain traditions, these festivals were initiated in Madinah after the migration of Muhammad from Mecca. Anas reports:
When the Prophet arrived in Madinah, he found people celebrating two specific days in which they used to entertain themselves with recreation and merriment. He asked them about the nature of these festivities at which they replied that these days were occasions of fun and recreation. At this, the Prophet remarked that the Almighty has fixed two days [of festivity] instead of these for you which are better than these: Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
For Muslims, both the festivals of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are occasions for showing gratitude to God and remembering Him, and are an occasion of entertainment. ‘Aishah narrates that when on an Eid day her father Abu Bakr stopped young girls from singing, Muhammad said: Abu Bakr! [Let them sing]; every nation has an ‘id and [this day] is our Eid.

I think they should change Wikipedia page with whatever valid sources they have and then criticize others.

Yes, Hari Raya is Eid-ul-Fitr in Malay.

good going already taraweeh prayers banned soon all prayers ban :p::yes2:
They don't need to pray because they are already going to heaven for all these contributions they are making for Islam. :sarcastic:
