ou could have added the bamiyan budha,
The countless Buddha statues/idols destroyed completely denying us access to glorious past of man kind
various akkadian/babylonian/assyrian artefacts destoryed on the basis of "blasphemy"

why single out only islamic losses? The above ones have been lost to the same ideology

Come to Pakistan and have look at preserved Buddhist sites which are most scared sties of Buddhism.

The big point of concern is these are some very very prominent Islamic figures whose remembrance mosques or tombs are being desecrated, yet our media is focused on other trivial subjects, there is no condemnation of the actions
and there sending tanks or troops to guard these areas

Example:
Zinab > Ali's daughter (4th Caliph)
Ziad Ibn Waleed-> Sahabi and prominent General, perhaps same as Alexander the great
Sakina Bint Hussain -> Daughter of Hussain
Hijr Ibn Adi (Sahabi)

Truly significant loses to historic buildings not to mention losses to people in region

From stand point of culture and art as well you see traces of Islamic past that is locked away in these buildings from the writings and writing style not to mention these were official tombs and shrines

Who know how many great Muslim architects took part in constructing the artwork on the walls the writting with special text , only done during that time of period yet ...all of that goes away in 1 careless year

Let us not forget that most of the Tombs & Ziaraat have been destroyed not by the un-believers but by the Moslems themselves. Strict Wahhabi doctrine considers visiting tombs of the Saints & other holy persons as “Shirk”. These sites were safe for 1800 years until Abdul Wahab decided to impose his version of Islam.

In 1801 & 1802 Abdul Aziz Ibne Saud led a Wahhabi contingent & destroyed Karbala & Najaf. In 1803 & 1804 Abdul Aziz captured Medina and levelled the shrine of where Hazrat Fatima Zahra (RA). Abdul Aziz also levelled the tomb of Hazrat Khadija –up- Kubra, the first wife of the Prophet and his close relations at the Jannat ul Mualla grave yard near Mecca. It is said that he wanted to level tomb of the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) as well, but strong protest from rest of Muslim ummah prevented it from happening.

Wahhabi Army was defeated in 1812 and the sites at Jannat Baqi were rebuilt by the Ottomans. However in 1925 after Wahhabi recapture of Hejaz; Jannat ul Baqi was levelled so were the graves of Hazrat Hamza (RA) and other martyrs of Uhud. In 1998 Tomb of Bib Amina mother of our holy Prophet (PBUH) was also levelled by the Saudi Government.

Sufi Mohammed treated graves of the Saints in Swat in a similar way. TTP bombed Bari Imam, Abdulla Ghazi, Dataa Durbar & Baba Farid's shrines. Wait until TTP takes over Pakistan; Lal Masjid bigot & Jama Hafsa students have already declared their support for Daa'ish; and all shrines in Pakistan will be levelled to the ground to stop idolatrous people of Pakistan from sin.

Despite being partial to Sufi Islam, I dare not criticize this wholesale destruction of the Islamic heritage sites. Followers of Wahhabi/Takfiri & Salafi maslaks will declare me a kafir and thus 'wajibul qatal'

I think regardless of Shia , Sunni or other folks , in general from Muslim's prespective the loss of these buildings and shrines is regretful as these were prominent folks in history
