Islamabad's phobia of Pindi boys

The person who has to pay for Kids and women's shopping isn't allowed, yes that is a good move. :disagree:
Shall i tell you what constitutes Pakistan 70% population and how you cannot afford to marginalize it over such petty things?
So you are trying to tell me that people who live in ISB, which happens to be the capital of this country, only they deserve the right to visit Centaurus? Really, Are you trying to make a point?
Hahahaha sir have you even gone through that exemption list anybody who has a job qualifies for that i am sure teenage boys high on hormones dont pay for those family shoppings. And just stating the fact that even half the families of Islamabad dont go there to shop they go there for outing which these hooligans were hell bent on destroying.
Have you ever experienced a pindi boys horde in centaurus or any other place, leave the families aside they can make even grown men feel uncomfortable with their "harkatien".I dont know where you are from but any Islamabad or Pindi resident who has a family at home and visits such places with them supports this decision.
Besides if a person cant pay 100 rupees fee what is he doing there because i cannot think of one thing below 150rupees available there.

Its a private establishment in the end of the day its their discretion who they want in and who they want out so please people move on and find a life.

Exemption is there for people with certain jobs not all. Like i said earlier it's not just about youngsters it's about class discrimination. Why should a specific lot be coerced into paying while the rest don't have to? Have you ever seen a shop which says only rich allowed while they rest must pay for even window shopping? Do you have any idea how ridiculous that sounds? Instead of advising others, it is you my gullible dear friend, who needs to snap out of apathy.

Funny thing is most of these Bajiyaans are rejoicing over this just because they will now be considered "elites" and are trying to justify their new status benchmark. Point to be noted: they are deliberately trying to make it look like a 'youngsters shenanigans' reaction whereas the stated rules are targeting CLASS, goes to show what the real motives are: IF your blood ain't blue, you ain't allowed.
Agreed

Just after inauguration of Centaurus Mall the Mall administration did go for this move by introducing Rs 500 entry which can be redeemed by shopping there. The move was aimed at making sure that the target customers should face no unease due to over crowding. Though they withdrew it later on. However after Metro started plying on this route, it made easy for everyone to easily access Centaurus Mall. As every type of people are everywhere so it caused not only over crowding but for sure families would have complained for some instances where they faced inconvenience due to some "londas" there. Being a family man i would feel no hesitation for paying this 100 Rs when i can feel like visiting the Mall with my family anytime with peace of mind. For sure there are many other places than Centaurus Mall for window shopping and when intent is just hanging out and not buying something specific to Centaurus Mall.

.
Here is how I feel, I think firstly they should increase the fare of Metro and stop subsidizing it. I think 100 RS is ok if Pindi boys were being menace which they can be at times but Isloo Boys are no different. The fact is no one really belongs to Isb or even Rawalpindi, I always say it if you want to find out real Rawalpindi people you will have to see them on Eid.

The fact is Isb people always try to look down upon Rawalpindi but they suckers don't know they always try to use our space if they want to go to Saddar, Airport and God knows what not. If they really want it for tit for tat then we should setup a barricade between Rawalpindi and Isb and lets see gets more affected.

Islamabad's phobia of Pindi boys

This obvious class-policing is not a Centaurus problem, it is an Islamabad problem. —Creative commons

Drowning in busloads of unwashed masses from Islamabad’s unfanciful twin in the south, the Centaurus Mall has introduced an entrance fee for crowd control. The kind of people exempted from the fee, reflect upon the refined tastes of the denizens of our capital city.

Islamabad’s wide-open boulevards have long served as convenient playgrounds for the people of Rawalpindi, seeking sanative refuge from the narrower streets laden with webs of over-ground electrical wiring. It is no secret that many, if not most, Islamabadis find this casual tourism somewhat perturbing.

With the launch of the Rawalpindi-Islamabad metro bus system, this ‘tourism’ is expected to expand. The Pakistani social media is already brimming with angry tweets and Facebook status updates by Islamabadis, bemoaning the horrid excess of Pindi boys in the malls of Islamabad; some as far as boycotting these places in protest.

‘Pindi boys’ (or “boyses”) is the pejorative term used for the stereotypical slimy-haired, gaudily clothed, Punjabi accented youngsters of Rawalpindi who journey to Islamabad, usually in large groups of predominantly male friends, to enjoy the sights and sounds of our nation’s capital.

I happen to be one of those Pindi boys, though in all honesty, my hair is reasonably dry.

The Centaurus Mall acted swiftly, enacting a modest Rs. 100 entrance fee — a small price to experience the splendour of a world-class shopping mall, of which the unfortunate souls of Rawalpindi are bereft.

The fee, is not much of an issue. Being one of the very few quality malls to grace the twin cities, crowd control is a legitimate problem. Problematic, is the list of people who are exempted from paying the entrance fee; a long list which is a less offensive way of saying who is not allowed to enter the mall freely.
The list starts with obvious exemptions: young children, senior citizens, and…uh...“special people”.

It then expands to include government employees, and members of sectors that basically define all of Islamabad and the people who live and work there.

Naturally, all diplomats, foreigners, MNAs and MPAs, members of elite Islamabad country clubs are exempted, as are “famous” TV celebrities and athletes; how it is to be decided whether a person is ‘famous’ enough to enter the mall with a hundred rupees to spare, awaits explanation.

To Rawalpindi, it extends a warm, free welcome, but only to the members of the armed forces, among a few other classic Pindi institutions. More generally, it exempts executive directors and managers of multinational companies, as well as university faculty members and doctors (hurray, I’m in!).

The entire notice, is essentially a way of telling youngsters, particularly the Pindi boys that frighten the monocles off the Islamabad citizens, that they’re the type of people the Centaurus administration is less-than-eager to see inside the premises.

The list is a transparent game of Taboo, with the administration struggling to say “lower class” or “Pindi boys”, without actually saying the phrase.

Kashif Butt, marketing director of the Mall, noted: “The fact is that because of summer vacations, there are a lot of young people who loiter for hours.”

I wonder how that phenomenon is unique to the Twin Cities? Don’t young people hang around malls in other countries, say America; lazing around the central water feature, or sipping iced tea for hours in the food court? Surely, it is not a surprise that a shopping mall is a public space where people often gather and socialise?

And the administration certainly doesn’t seem to mind youngsters from any of the privileged categories of people loitering around, including young doctors and country club brats?

Know that, at the end, this obvious class-policing is not a Centaurus problem, it is an Islamabad problem, and it is a shameful one.

It is a matter of the elites marking their territory; defending their glittering spaces against the onslaught of the underprivileged ‘paindus’ who dare to sneak a taste of a nicer, shinier Pakistan.
kids and women are qualified professionals but engineers are not?? i don't wanna live in this world anymore

Yes this does...

Even me (Middle class, well to do family) would say "Why the heck should I pay 100 to get into Centaurus?".

And most people I know echo the same sentiment...so yes it does make a difference IMO.

The spending characteristics of earners differ from those who do not -- so you cant really use rationality here, your talking about kids that do one wheeling in hopes to impress a girl --- in other words they risk their life, for just an impression, its not like a girl will throw out a parchi and they will catch it mid wheelin' and get to talk and what not --

hence the barrier of Rs. 100 would be ineffective, however like a poster pointed out its more of a class issue -- if you want pondi to go, you'll have to take another route cuz kids are the same be it islamabad or pindi , the only difference is in the paisa your rolling in ---

However when the approach becomes "celebs, women, children + some professions" are exempted and others have to pay up, then it indeed becomes a class issue... even if the amount was like Rs. 10 it would still get a negative feeling to it, because different treatment to different classes does that -- and Pakistani people, are sick and tired of all this elite class BS ... hence the reaction

If you live in Pindi or Islamabad you will know what I am talking about. Ever try to take your family out for a nice dinner or shopping? You must have seen these morons. These newly rich londas with their pimped up bikes and Mehrans blasting that Amplifier song lol.

And people screaming elitism.. bullshit! Its business. Centauras is designed for families to spend money there, not teenagers or single men in their early 20s. And when these single men leave no space for the families, of course the business suffers.

I am from Pindi too and as a proud Pindiboy, here listen to our song ;)
