On the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the divisional administration will start work on the metro bus service project from Rawat to Faizabad next week.

A senior official of the district administration told that the feasibility study was conducted in 2017 to start two main lines of bus service from Saddar to Tarnol and Rawat to Faizabad.

However, he said after change of government in 2018, work on the projects was suspended. He said now the new government at the centre had decided to revive Rawat to Faizabad bus service.

He said Nespak had been asked to start work on Rawat to Faizabad along with Islamabad Expressway to facilitate people living along Islamabad Expressway

Metro to Begin Peshawar Morr-to-Airport Service in Five Days: PM Shehbaz Sharif

Newly appointed Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has announced the commencement of Metro bus service between Peshawar Morr and #Islamabad Airport in five days.

According to a Media report, Sharif has ordered immediate completion of important operational elements for the service to begin. He issued instructions to the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Ministry of Interior Affairs (MoIA), and National Highway Authority (NHA) in this regard.

Trial run of metro service begins

On the directions of the prime minister, the trial run of Orange Line Metro Bus Service from Peshawar Mor to Islamabad International Airport began on Saturday.

CDA Chairman Amer Ali Ahmed and officials from the capital administration and related departments inspected the docking, scheduling, loading and unloading of passengers and other operational details.

This trial run will continue on Sunday as well. After the completion of trial, the prime minister will inaugurate the service.

Orange Line, which is a National Highway Authority (NHA) project, will have 30 modern buses which will ply after five minutes during peak hours while eight to 10 minutes during off peak hours. The track is 25.6km long and has seven stations and one platform near the airport.

Initially, the CDA under an arrangement with Punjab Mass Transport Authority has arranged 15 orange-painted buses as the arrival of the purchased buses for this route from China has been delayed due to Covid-19 situation at the port city of Shanghai. However, after the arrival of the buses, 15 will be repatriated to Punjab. It is estimated that 25,000 to 26,000 passengers will commute daily on the route.

New Metro Bus service gets 61pc of its estimated passengers in first month​


The newly inaugurated Metro Bus Service, termed as Orange Line, running between Peshawar Morr to New Islamabad International Airport has attracted about 61 per cent of its ‘estimated passengers’ during first month of its operations.

Though, the consultants in initial feasibility study had estimated around 60,000 passengers on this metro route per day but later the number was rationalised at PC-I stage according to which it was presumed that 18,000 passengers will travel via this route on daily basis.

According to the financial model of this metro bus service with average of 18,000 daily passengers, the service requires a subsidy of Rs300 million annually to meet its expenditure while if the number of passengers reaches 30,000, the metro will become subsidy-free.

However, according to the data shared by the Capital Development Authority on Sunday, 11,464 passengers are using the said Metro Bus Service daily at present, which is 61 per cent of the estimated figure.

The data further reflected that the Faiz Ahmed Faiz Metro Bus Station – a junction of old and new Metros is the busiest station with 1,746 passengers per day, whereas, the police foundation metro stop at mauve area remained least utilised.

Though, the route has an average ridership of 11,464 per day, the data showed that the number once crossed 16,000 passengers on a certain day, which is quite near to the estimated passengers.

When contacted, Project Director of Metro Bus Service Qazi Omer confirmed that the number of passengers is less than the actual estimations but he was confident that the number would increase in the next few months.

He said we are hopeful that we will not only successfully get our target passengers in coming months but same would gradually further be increased, which will help us to minimise our subsidy.

Meanwhile, the CDA management has stated that it is a matter of great satisfaction that a large number of people are utilising this facility.
It was further hoped that with the launch of green line and blue line shortly, the connectivity among the various areas of capital will increase and the ridership will further increase on the said route.

Green and blue lines are two new Metro Bus services going to be launched by the CDA from Koral Chowk to Zero Point and from Bhara Kahu to Peshawar Morr.
The management expressed their hope that not only this would reduce traffic congestion but would also help in reducing air pollution in the city.

The newly imported buses are likely to reach Islamabad from Karachi by the end of this week in first phase while buses for blue and green lines are also reaching Islamabad after some time.

Metro Bus to Islamabad airport?? who goes to an airport in a BRTS bus, can they carry one or two large size suitcases in a Bus, NO!!.

Can they easily carry a brief case, YES. But nobody will travel to the Isb. airport in a hurry to catch a flight, domestic or international on a BRTS bus, the Bus doesn't go to the main terminal building, I guess.

It is simply a project to get the real Estate speculation, the land prices increase of Top City, Mumtaz City and many other housing societies planned, many by the PMLN crooks and supporters who are real estate developers, Anjum Aqeel is one of the them, the crook.

FWO submits Rs11bn bid for Islamabad Expressway expansion project

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has received a bid of Rs11 billion from the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) for the project under which the 7km Islamabad Expressway from PWD to Grand Truck (G.T.) Road will be expanded.

The bid is being evaluated by a committee of the civic body. The CDA had recently called bids from government-run construction firms, to which the FWO and National Logistics Cell (NLC) responded.

According to sources, the NLC quoted a bid of Rs11.7bn while the FWO submitted a bid of Rs10.9bn. Therefore, as per the rate, the FWO submitted the lowest bid.

According to CDA sources, the civic body had opened bids on June 10. At present, the Bid Evaluation Committee (BEC) was evaluating the FWO’s bid.

The committee has met once and the lowest bidder has been asked to submit rates in the next meeting, the sources said.

After the committee’s approval, the CDA management will accept the bid before issuing work orders.

The expansion project once started will be completed in 18 month. Besides, expanding the expressway from PWD to Rawat from the existing two lanes to four on both sides, construction of Sohan bridge is also part of the project.

Last month, the CDA board had given a go-ahead to the civic body to execute the project through a government contractor under 42(F) rules of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA), which allowed government-owned organisations to directly contract other state-owned entities.

The CDA officials said the civic agency had already built several interchanges on the expressway and carried out interventions to ensure smooth flow of traffic, but they had not been of much use.

The officials said there was no other option but to expand the busy road till G.T. Road to resolve the lingering traffic issue.

The road, which starts from Faisal Mosque, has already been widened till Koral and PWD stop. However, after PWD, traffic gets congested all of a sudden because the road from this point onwards narrows down to two lanes.

At present the FWO is executing another project under which 2km road from Korang bridge to PWD is being widened.
The expressway caters to both local and heavy traffic, particularly plying between Islamabad and Lahore. It is also an important link between Punjab, Azad Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as it connected with G.T. Road at Rawat.

Besides, a large number of housing societies had sprung up along its length during the last two decades. Under this situation, the widening of the road has become inevitable. All major road projects, which were launched in the last few years including Margalla Road, 7th Avenue Interchange, I.J. Principal Road expansion and 10th Avenue are either being executed by the FWO or NLC.

Only one major contract, Rawal Dam interchange, was awarded to a private contractor, who left it halfway, following which the civic agency engaged the FWO to complete it. This project is likely to be completed in August this year.

Correction...the road hasn't been widened till PWD, it's still in progress from Koral to PWD.

Secondly, CDA has been doing a good job the past couple of years...it seems like a different organization now especially after the disaster class of the previous Chairman (Jis tarah woh Mian sahab nay lagaya tha woh alag baat hai).

They are executing Rawal Dam project, IJP, the Kashmir Highway signal free project, Aabpara interchange, the proposed interchange at F-8/F-9 on 9th Avenue, and also Margalla Expressway. I also heard they are executing Bahrakahu bypass, but not sure about that.

Let's hope the expressway gets done quickly.

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is all set to launch two environment friendly electric feeder buses that will transport passengers towards the Green and Blue Line metro terminals.

The Green Line service will operate from Bhara Kahu (Jillani Stop) to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims). CDA officials said that the existing two-lane Murree Road in Bhara Kahu area is already facing traffic congestion, therefore, it has been decided that the service will be started from Jillani Stop.

They said passengers will be picked up from Bhara Kahu (Attal Chowk) for the Green Line service whereas for the Blue Line service, passengers will be picked up from PWD.

CDA officials said construction work of bus stations on both routes is in progress and will be completed in August, however, CDA is planning to launch both bus services soon as a nonstop express service (from Bhara Kahu to Pims and from Koral to Pims)
