Is this "War on Terror" worth fighting?

I've just found out that one of my friends who was in the Pakistani army got killed in Swat while on duty. Its sad to know so many in the Pakistani army have been killed in this war as well as so many Pakistani civilians.

It seems as if Americans are not yet satisfied with all that Pakistan did for this "War on Terror", they dont appreciate all that Pakistanis did for this War that Bush started.

Pakistan has done more for this War than any other ally of the United States and still America doesnt appreciate Pakistanis, instead they portray a negative image of Pakistan all over their media. They dont even trust the Pakistani military when our brave Pakistani troops are laying their lives on the line for Bush's war.

More Pakistanis have been killed in this war than Americans who brought it. More Pakistanis have been killed just in 2008 than the number of Americans killed in 9/11.

What else can Pakistan do to please Americans? How many more Pakistani troops can we lose because of this war? How many more Pakistani civilians have to die to please America?

We Pakistanis have been living peacefully together forever. Why this problem now and how long do Pakistanis have to put up with this war?

But there is a propaganda campaign to make the public believe in the presence of an identified entity representing the 'devil' only in order to drive the TV watcher to accept a unified international leadership for a war against terrorism. I am truly sorry for the loss of your friend in SWAT. Far too many people have been killed in the "war on terror". My neighbor, an army ranger medical evacuation helicopter pilot, was killed last month in Iraq, leaving behind a wife and two young daughters, ages 7 and 9. What America wants to see Pakistan accomplish is quite simply stated, though, apparently, tremendously difficult. That is, (1) America wants Pakistan to stop militant groups from training, arming and resting on Pakistani soil and then crossing over into Afghanistan and killing people in Afghanistan. (2) The US also wants Pakistan to expel or kill the international jihadis from its territories as well. The Pak Army activity in SWAT is a purely internal Pakistani issue. It is extremely unfortunate that the jihadi groups in Pakistan are not Pakistani patriots first, instead, they are jihadis first. If they really cared deeply about their nation, Pakistan, they would submit to the writ of their government and not carry out military and terror actions outside of the policies and direction of the GoP. The US does not want Pakistan to do "more and more in the WoT". The US wants Pakistan to WIN control over the tools of violence within its territory, whatever it takes to do that. No purpose is served by any of the deaths of the brave soldiers involved unless this internal Pakistan victory is achieved by the PAF and the people of Pakistan.

This, of course is true. You can't have a "war" against an English word (terror). The only reason the US administration decided to call it the WoT was to lessen the anti-Muslim feelings that a true name would have provoked. I prefer "War on Jihadis" myself. And, it is true that most of the real enemies of the US today are Muslims. But it is not a war against all Muslims, only the "misguided" ones. The trouble we have is that the Islamic world itself is conflicted about whether or not they are misguided. We don't care about fine points of Islamic jurisprudence. We just want them to either stop plotting to kill us or we want to kill them first.

Im sorry abt ur friend and also ur neighbour.I too have family and friends in the armed forces so can understand ur reservations abt the WOT (OMAR1984).Frankly I think the word 'terrorist' needs to be redefined ...is it any guy with a beard and calls himself a Muslim,wears a shalwar kameez, gets his home and family bombed in a matter of seconds,by alien forces often in a case he has nothing to do with? His loss is described as 'colateral' damage!Wht a refined insult!
If he chooses to retaliate as a human bomb or with a gun can u blame him?Esp if a so called civil,refined culture like the USA,the self appointed chaperon of human rights worldwide takes up arms post 9/11...is it not the same response?If a nation proclaims war on another,bombs,kills,userpes their freedom all in the name of freedom and making the world a 'safer' place call themselves 'saviours',then y are those who show their reaction called as 'terrorists'.
True there r dangerous ppl in the world...they r not distinguished by their religion,country or appearence,but whtever happened to the word 'diplomacy'?
As far as my opinon goes abt this WOT its the most humiliating excuse to civil,human sensibilties.Post 9/11 there have been any more human lives lost...the only thing this so called,badly planned war has brought about is more misery and many more 'terrorists'.Now we can go to bed with this thought 'who's next?'

Omar, I am truly sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. Sadly many of us have lost and even more sadly will lose good friends in this war on those that would destroy good people the world over.

In my own view it is fight worth fighting for the continuing freedom and safety of people everywhere, a 'war on terror' cannot be won in the traditional meaning of the word but it still must be fought. People may disagree with me in whether it is worth fighting but their right to disagree is part of what is being defended.

Exactly...thats wht Im saying .Its a vice versa game.....each side is a target for the other....how can u resolve any issue in such a scenario?Its either kill or be killed

Absolutely not. This war is against Muslims and their resources. This should end at once and a strong sense of dignity and personal respect should be knocked in the heads of our elite, that if we are to live in this region, then the only way we can live is with Dignity and Respect, not with every single tom dick or harry getting up and kicking us in the teeth by reminding us how our soverignty has been tested and the sold out chimps, our politicians, are passing statements only against such criminal attacks, that are destroying our diginity and making us a laughing stock in the world and region.

This war is a criminal war, only to form a new world order for certain elements hagemony, and if we does not stop becoming the accessory in it, by becoming hostile to hostile nations, it will be the end of us.

I agree with u but partially...the drone attacks should be stopped....an armed action should be put on hold and dialogue should be the call of the day.However we need some interospection as well...to accept one's shortcomings is a step to success.Burning girls schools,closing down cosmetic factories resulting in a thousand females loosing their jobs and brain washed into suicide bombings is not a very pretty picture.'hostile' countries play up this propaganda.We need to be more tolerant of each other as Pakistanis.Most of these ppl innocently play right into the hands of 'mullahs' who themselves roam around in their 4wds and probably swoon at the mere thought of getting a scratch themselves.Needless to say no one asks where they get their funds or ammunation.
The gov needs to draw a line with the usa on this 'WOT'...simultaneously we as Pakistanis need to decide that we we have had enuf dictation from the enemy inside.

Its time we clampdown on Musharaf's policies of appeasing US and put our national interests top priority. Unrest in SWAT can easily be controlled and anti-state people can easily be coerced into laying down their arms. There's no point putting our soldiers in harms way because of US's mistakes. US is gonna run sooner or later, Taliban are gonna get their government again. Pakistan should side with the people of Afghanistan not an outsider.

Since when did you care about the Afghans? US just wants its soldiers to be safe.

Don't say stuff like that. You dishonour your very friend who died for YOU and me. Not for Bush. He died fighting the enemies of Pakistan, and I am sure he died proudly. You should be proud too because he was fighting the ill-wishers of Pakistan. So that you and me can live in peace far from the bullets. So that our children have a country to call home, a country they can be proud of. A country that is not ravaged by death, civil war and chaos. That is the reason he gave his life. Bush has nothing to do with, who cares what Bush or India or who ever thinks? The important thing is that you as a Pakistani honour him. That is all he would have cared about, and the fact that he died for HIS COUNTRY.

I love our soldiers War is ok.but please dont let 'em die in bomb blasts(like in Sargodha bus blast,yound pilots died).their lives are very precious.They mean to die for a cause...for meaningful purpose
