What's new

Is this secularism of India ?

There is some wrong perceptions in Pakistanis.

First India is secular but it doesn't separate religion with state.
As per constitution all religions are to be respected.

Therefore we have few laws like.
Ban on Cow Slaughter in some states. Beef Slaughter is allowed I guess.
Ban on Alcohol in few states.
Muslim Personal Law Board for Muslims.
Muslim Marriage Act for Muslims.
3 or 4 wives for Muslims of India while only 1 for Hindus. Even though Hindus use to have more than one wives earlier.
Quota for Muslims in central, state and local governing bodies.

Our Constitution has been created so as to respect all religion rather than separating religion from the state itself.

At the same time you have to understand that many Muslims in India are uneducated therefore it is obvious they will live in poverty and become unemployed. The government should do more to educate them and I think they have some reservations for them or something like that. Even with all this so called "discrimination" Muslims in India are patriots. Most of my family lives in India and trust me they love India, one of my relatives from India visited my place a few months ago and he was very patriotic. He even said that "my grandfather made a huge mistake my migrating to Pakistan".

The more Muslims that get educated the more they will become prosperous in India.

Problem is not the Muslims itself. Even SC/ST people are uneducated. In fact they are the most poorest people in India. (except crimilayer). The root cause of this is our politicians who feel that their existence will be endangered if they got educated.

India is a typical 3rd world country where the underprivileged are harassed, ancient prejudices exist and people face many injustice. But the government is largely secular and so are the masses. For most Indians, religion is not the primary issue. The credit goes to the government which has used all its propaganda machinery to make the public feel proud of their diversity and has always tried its best to create a sense of harmony. The country has faced some shameful incidents and riots. But for such a big country with so much diversity, illiteracy and historical baggage, such incidents are very few. The condition of muslims varies from place to place according to their history and local economy. A historically poor muslim farmer will most probably remain poor just like a poor Hindu. whereas a muslim from merchant or landowning communities will be far richer than a common Hindu.

If India was one religion dominated country we couldn't survive for 60 years and progressing. India couldn't afford to be non secular due to it's vast diversity.

There is no discrimination with Muslims in India.

Muslims are themselves responsible for there state.I had not seen any Muslim organization or trust who runs Chain of schools in India. There are many Muslims who are millionare but if it comes to there contribution towards society they will mere open only madarsas or will donate to Masjid.Iam not of the view that madarsa education should not be there but in todays world of Science and technology Education should be based on that.Religious studies should be kept apart.Even were schools are runned by Muslim socities they are onlu for Muslim people.
On the other hand Hindu and Christian societies are having schools with PAN India presence and overseas also. And that also for everyone.

Systems can be introduced..........but its upto people to follow it..............and for me........... Secularism is in the Blood of Indian people

He is my brother in islam..I feel his pain even if he is indian muslim

you can also feel his pain because he is human before he is indian or muslim

Dude..Here is the point..No one is saying that this is guy is wrong...Even me and many Indians like me support this guy for injustice..We never supported any discrimination against any one...You are welcome to feel the pain ..but the difference between you and me like Indian is that we feel the pain for this person as he is an Indian ....where as you feel the pain as a Muslim.....there lies the key difference...
And another fact, no one is perfect in this world...as someone has told in this thread that India may not be 100% secular..but the policy and will of the people is to strive for 100% secular...And hat matters a lot to us..

.
Definitely India is not 100% secular. Because some of its laws like the ban on cow slaughter is against secularism. But the fact is India is much more secular then any of its South Asian neighbours (I don't know about secularism in Sri Lanka).
There are hundreds of millions of Muslims and Hindus in India so definitely there will be some cases like this since India is a developing country.
It is a gradual process I would say India is more secular then it was a decade or two decades ago. India has the potential to show the world that many religions can co exist with each other peacefully.

i am pleasantly surprised and very happy with your post . thank you for understanding no country is perfect . we all have our faults and failings , and we all make mistakes . the fact we recognize them is a step in the right direction.
