Is the Altay MBT DooMed?

. . .
Delayed yet but not doomed. Sooner or later either South Korean or Ukrainian engine will join it.
Both countries has a high chance of being pressure by US not to supply component.

.
Did watch the video, and the tank isn’t out of hot water yet, the South Korean engine can be sanctioned too, and with how Turkey-US relations are going, who knows, there is still a Ukrainian option.

however I believe the tank will eventually reach production in one state or another.

Turkey should just get Ukrainian engienes with licence production. They are not best but provide good performance is some very rough and tough terrains.

The T-1 production (the first 40 tanks) will be produced with a Korean engine which performance specs are closest to the agreed MTU engine before. The interstate agreement on the subject was signed in October2021. The domestically designed tank transmission is also expected to be put into operation in the first half of next year at the latest. Minor changes need to be made for compatibility in Altay tanks that will be produced with the South Korean power group, and these studies are currently in progress.

The T-2 phase(210 tanks), which has been completely updated on a subsystem basis and will create the real breakthrough for TAF, will be produced with a domestic engine. The design phase of the BATU 1500-1800hp tank engine family that BMC will use in Altay was completed in 2019. The first ignition of the engine was made in April 2020. Qualification tests will be completed in 2022. Within the scope of the contract between SSB and BMC, the first ALTAY-T1 configuration was decided to complete in the T0+18th month. The first ALTAY-T2 tank will be delivered in the T0+49th month and the deliveries all of 250 T1+T2 tanks will be completed in the T0+87th month.

On the other hand, the offer of Ukraine, which competes with Korea, is still on the table. There is no problem in engine supply from both countries. The main criterion here is the minor changes and performance evaluations that should be made for different engines and transmissions.

In return for the supply of engines, Germany was required a detailed inspection of the logistics(just like JSF) and even infos about the placement of the Altay units under the command of the Turkish Armed Forces. All these demands were pure nonsense. By finally revealing the reasons behind these excuses; They decided to embargo after Turkey's operation against Pkk/ypg, which is a US proxy in the east of the Euphrates river. Prioritizing only the MTU-RENK engine and transmission (only becasue it is ahead of its competitors in performance tests) by SSB is Turkey's strategic mistake in this project. The SSB was trying to put forward a system that could compete internationally, but the bureaucratic risks were completely ignored. As a result of this, there is a huge delay happaned, approximately 5 years in the Altay project. In the initial project planning, Altay deliveries were supposed to start between 2019-2021.

On the other hand, although the T-1 tanks will be produced at the Tank Palet factory, the T-2 production will take place in the new factory that BMC is currently under construction. In addition, During these delays, the product continued to mature and develop, not only on the basis of the engine, but also on the basis of other subsystems. The prototypes were tested and evaluated under every possible condition. On the basis of the configuration referred to as T2 today, it will be a highly differentiated variant from the Altay prototype you see. Altay is a product group designation, not a model code here.

Detailed explanations and contents are available on related topics. I haven't watched the video, but the comments below are mostly comments that don't know the subject or express about what want to see.

What construction? There was no new factory construction. All of the Altays will be produced in the Tank Palet Factory. Like Fırtina Howitzers.

Aselsan+MKE also working on serial hybrid system for the power package. This system is more applicable for us as no transmission is required. The first trials were carried out on the M113 Armored Combat Vehicle, and a torque of 9000 Newton-meters was achieved with 1300 HP horsepower!

In summary, we are working on 3 alternatives on the power pack issue. i) Domestic Batu Power Pack, ii) South Korea's Power Pack, iii) Domestic Aselsan+MKEK Serial Hybrid System Power Pack. Even if the South Korean government causes problems with the power package, it will delay us for at most 3 years. In that case, T1 production is canceled and "Altay-2" with autoloader and unmanned turret is produced.

Despite the inexplicable manipulation of some opposite publications and media, BMC's new factory construction continues. The production line of BMC Motor(engine side) will also be located in this complex. Planning errors and problems arising in the ground survey works are reflected as if the construction of the factory was canceled and this land was donated to someone.

In addition, it was announced by the Minister of Defense that the initial production of Altay had started at the Tank Pallet factory in Arifiye and that the first tank was producted.

And they will deliver them at a rate of 0.8 engines per year.

And if you want spare parts, cash out to restart their production with a few years lead time.

What is serial hybrid propulsion system?

This: Serial Hybrid: Single Electric Motor with Generator Power & Energy Storage | Twin Disc, Incorporated

Aselsan+MKE working on it now. Prototypes produced as a result of R&D are first tested on our railways. The first phase has been passed, now the second phase has begun. We will move on to this if the Batu Power Pack fails.

When South Korean power package arrives, Altay will enter production without much delay. If that power package does not come, then Altay will be delayed a little longer.

By the way, the transmission part in the Batu Power Pack is ready to be integrated into the engine. Of course, the tests will take a long time. Its success is also not guaranteed. But I can guarantee you one thing, Altay will eventually be produced with the most up-to-date qualities.

@dBSPL ; We will see...

It could also be a good idea for Pakistan for a future tank. Chassis of the VT-4 with the Altay Turret.
If PA want to buy some Altay Turret and install them on the Chassis of the VT-4,they will learn nothing from the project. Why not try to R&D a new turret by yourself?you will learn much more from such project.
