Islamic State militants have seized a major Syrian air base, wiping out the last government stronghold in a province dominated by jihadists.

The extremists won a week-long battle today to capture the sprawling Tabqa base 25 miles from their stronghold in Raqqa, reportedly killing dozens of soldiers in the process.

The base was reportedly one of the military's largest facilities in the region, with several warplane squadrons, helicopters, tanks, artillery and ammunition.

BBC News - Syria conflict: Islamic State 'seizes' Tabqa airbase

It just seems to be getting worse. Do these shaytaan have the ability to use the planes there? But seriously, more artillery and tanks that will be heading to their front-lines.

.
Damn. We've already seen how brutal they are with guns and knives...

.
I hope this isn't true
and if it is I hope they didn't just leave equipment behind to be used against them.

The Syrian Army is dilapidated. This is bad for the world and a major boost for IS.

lool why are you surprised bro? What else did you expect? Afterall we supported them during the beginning of the conflict in syria. So we shouldnt be whinning now that they have started beheading our countrymen/journalist.They make even Alqaeda look like school kids.lool. They are well trained/battle hardened, skillful, well finandud(gulf states) ,ransom kignappings, run oil wells, and control/run vast territories. Something Alqaeda has never been able to achieve, in fact they make alqaeda irrelevant.lol . In the words of U.S general Dempsay: 'They are beyong anything we have ever seen in a jihadi Group.':agree:

Sometimes i just cant believe how short sighted how governments are. Fighting them in Iraq while helping them in Syria. They even wanted to bombard syria to topple the government and give these jihadists even more control. Geez......

Man, if this continues, ,isis will have enough stuff to create it's own tank divisions, air force & one day even navy.

heh, we don't learn our lesson do we.
theres gotta be some end game to this madness.
they must know this shit going to come back to haunt us in less than a decade.

The base hasn't fallen yet and there is still fighting here however it might fall soon .

Considering the radars and air defense systems there , Losing the base will be costly for everyone in region as it makes ISIL capable of defending it's airspace .

As true as the morning sunrise. I just saw the picture on the BBC driving tanks out.

They must destroy all the weapons and prevent them from getting in the hands of the terrorists, that is if they have any weapons/ammo left. They must fight to the death, because they'll get killed by the terrorists nonetheless.

S00R3NA, they have already started to behead the defending troops there.....The troops that are there are battling to get out. I'm watching the BBC news reports right now. This is a disaster.

I want to know how many operational warplanes they had there. Could you imagine ISIS airstrikes? o_O:o:

Exactly bro. I dont just understand our governemnts policies at times. What did they expect from financing, arming rag tags rebels/islamists whne the civil war in Syria started. Everyone could have seen this coming. Now its too late to turn back. What is even more astonishing, is that even now they are still not trying to put an end to this mad support to the rebels in Syria. A complete ban should be imposed on any arms supplied to these scums and we should cooperate with the syrian government to get rid of them, just like we are trying to do in Iraq now. Any country caught supplying/aiding/providing transit to these islamists in Syria should be sanctioned including even allies like Turkey or gulf states. we should be firm, else it will continue.
However i dont see that happening, seems we dont really care seeing chaos there, until maybe it reaches our shores in form of a suicide bombing(judging from the number of british/european young muslims travelling to join ISIS who can return home to carry out their Jihad one day)

Air force? Navy? Be serious.. These things take decades to build, let alone master what you've already got. IS can try to snatch some jets from Syria, but they wont be able to maintain them for long, let alone have people capable of flying them effectively.

ahahahahah, ISIS air strikes, now that would be interesting.:flame:
Guess Al Zawahiri will soon have to reconsider his plans of rejecting ISIS. If they can have an air force, Im sure bin laden must be proud.
