Is India cutting ‘off its nose to spite its face’ on OBOR?

Talking of Indian states and its population, all the Indian states per capita is lower than Pakistan except for Maharashtra which has Mumbai and the financial nerve center of India with large tax collection, industries, and financial institutions.

Nope. There are a lot of major states in India which have much higher per capita than Pakistan. You forgot Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala and Karnataka.

We see more Chinese people can affording travelling around the world, fancy cars, good healthcare and education for their children, cities are much modern and transportation convenient, public facilities become top notch in the world, those are real things we need , not a pale GDP number while nothing really changed for the general public.

It makes Indian economy 7.7 times bigger than the Pak economy and not the 10 times or so mentioned. In nominal terms even it is not 10 times bigger.

Big lol. Ur GDP is only 270B. BD will overtake u guys soon.... Ur lies might help ur fantasy.. Not the world...

.
Who told you that nonsense, we don't buy PPP crap. China now cares less about GDP and more about how to make people live a better life, that's more tangible and something the real people can really benefit.

Who's talking about PPP? I'm talking about nominal GDP.

In PPP terms, China has already surpassed the US.

GDP is just a number and can be calculated many ways, standard of living and urbanization, social welfare, those are the things we are after now.

If you want to match the US in per capita, then you are going to have to look well beyond 2050.

For India catching up with China, what the country needs to do at least is to match Chinese infrastructure, world's best road system, railway system, ports , airports, subways ,public facilities for the general public and build up dozens of world class cities all around the country , try to become the world industrial and manufacturing base. These are only the hardware part India needs to do, for socio-economic development could take longer.

overall development is based on hard working, not big talking. India has so many problems to overcome, your political system makes consistency of policy almost impossible, curse of caste system and the power struggle between the local and central government, insurgency problems and religious fractions, just named some. India can never be like China where all the people and the whole country work as one person to make the results happen once we set our sight on them.

All these can be achieved in 5-10 years, they can be made even better in fact due to the introduction of newer technologies.

What's more important is quality of life. China is a $11T economy and still doesn't have universal healthcare while Modi is planning to introduce it by 2022 in India. India will only be worth $3.5T by then.

Let’s call it Modicare.

After all, prime minister Narendra Modi’s plan to offer universal healthcare under its National Health Policy (NHP) 2015 is so ambitious in its scope and delivery that it even dwarfs Barack Obama’s Obamacare.

5-10 years? That's not far away, I will mark this post and we will see, until that happens , stop bragging about your future, it hasn't come yet. By the way, I really doubt that India can become the world's industrial and manufacturing hub and build up dozens of world class cities in 5-10 years, even China can't do that. It took us decades.

.
Who wants to miss one of the worlds largest market;). The main aim of China with OBOR is to further develop it's export driven economy. Their total exports to the west are declining they are looking for new farming grounds.
Exactly thats right , it more or less a berlin-baghdad railway line that germans built to counter british. They simply want to expand and reduce their dependence on america.

Medicare aside, India's priority is to bring the the world highest birth mortality and Child fatality rate and child malnutrition problems, universal healthcare can be put after those urgent needs.

What makes you say that? Cities grow faster than the country.

And China did do that.

Just look at the difference between 1990 and 1999. I doubt I have to tell you which city that is.

You simply create a policy and let the market take over. If the market grows, so will infrastructure.

This is only one city, China has a dozen of world class cities. and it took at least 2 decades, not 5-10 years, besides, what China can make happen doesn't mean everyone can make it happen.

5-10 years is not far away, we will see how true is your prediction.

They are obviously related. India has problems not because the health care system is deficient, it's because people lack access. For example, India supplies 20% of the world's pharmaceuticals.

http://www.livemint.com/Politics/g0...ontinues-to-lead-China-in-pharma-exports.html
India is the largest provider of generic medicines globally, with a 20% share in supplies by volume. China accounts for 1.5% of the global drug market.

https://thewire.in/133449/pharmaceutical-drugs-exports-india/
India exports half of its total production of pharmaceuticals. Exports to the US and other rigorously-regulated western markets account for over 50% of India’s global exports. This has given a stamp of quality to Indian pharmaceuticals, adding to the confidence in Indian medicines in Latin American and the rest of the developing world.

We have the building blocks that will allow us to provide universal health care.

Charity begins at home, save your own children first instead of selling life saving drugs to other countries to make money while letting your own children left dead.

Anyway, see India catching up with China in 5-10 years, Kind of curious, do you seriously believe that anyone in this world will believe it except for Indians? You can ask around all non Indian PDF users here and find it out.

India has 5 mega cities with populations well above 10 million. And many more smaller cities. Sure, you can wait. It's not particularly far away. Indian cities have already crossed the first 10 years, the next 10 years will see a significant transformation. By 2022 itself Indian cities will look very different compared to what they are today.

For example, only 8 cities have metro transportation system today, 8 more cities will join the list anywhere between this year and 2022, then another 10-20 cities will join the list by 2027 and so on. By then some of the first 8 cities would have expanded to operate at the same scale as Shanghai or London today.

What happened in China is already happening in India.

As I said, the problem is accessibility, not availability. India is known as the 'pharmacy of the developing world' for good reason.

Naturally. Economic growth happens by compounding.

Non-Indians won't know what's happening in India. My city today has changed big time from 10 years ago, even 5 years ago. The basic transportation infrastructure itself has changed so much. There are a lot of other things also, like moving overhead electric cables underground, sensors for traffic management, cleaning up water bodies etc. How will non-Indians experience this change?

These are daily common scenes in Mumbai local, most of the people travel by Mumbai locals and the Mono rail constructed is just not in use to any extent.

The 7.5 million commuters on Mumbai’s local trains daily, 12 are killed on average daily on the local tracks in Mumbai alone...sad stats here.
