Is Hinduism the cause of so many of India's ills? The treatment of women, the caste system even though Indians deny it the caste system is the major cause of the treatment of the poor, cleanliness is a dirty word in India.

That said, India has existed with Hinduism for centuries and there is no reason why we should go the China way.

Hinduism is very flexible..... can change accordin to requirment... its also most open religion... so it will survive another millenium(if world exist)... and people confuse agnostic with atheist.... people are more agnostic than atheist....

Read back the basics, Hinduism in Karma based, means you get based on what you do, as simple as that. The treatment of women, the caste system, dirtiness etc are not part of religion, its part of societal issues.

Hinduism is not a curse of India. It is the sole reason India is India. I agree there are some fringe elements who are hell bent upon tarnishing the image of Hinduism but overall Hindus are very benign people with very progressive attitude. It is a very flexible religion. You will find staunch believers of millions of gods as well as Hindus who are monotheists. I want my country to always remain Hindu in spirit. Hinduism don't bound you by books and rules. You are free to search your own path of enlightenment. The best thing about Hindus is that it puts Mathrubhoomi (Motherland) before anything.

There are a few irritants though like dowry, casteism, rising extremism. Once we get rid of it, there is no limit to the progress we can make. Rising extremism, corruption, filth is not Hindu specific, it is a disease common to all religion of India. I know its not easy, we have to work hard.

Hinduism is the soul of our country. We have been Hindus since the availability of history. out of 2000 years since Christ, our economy dominated the world for almost 17 centuries. We have a famous quote of Raja Ashwapati saying that there is no on e in my state who speak lies, who cheats or do any unethical work. This had been our civilization. We had a concept of Ramrajya where all live ethical life. It is said that nobody used to die before their old age. This all is Hinduism. If we dump it, we shall be dumped. We can not think of parting ourselves from our religion and culture. Else we shall also become like them.
