What's new

Is Hindi-Urdu Closer to Persian or Turkic?

Everything about it is different from u guys. If u guys try to talk like urdu speakers as in pakistnis it doesnt mean hindi urdu ban jaey gee.
U guys make so many mistakes when u speak urdu.
Like some of u say ajj ghaas(grass ) nahi kata...it shud be kati,..similarly many such examples.

Secondly, urdu is very inspired by persian and arabic ....
Like if i have to say dravadinhero ko ban kardo in urdu iwill say:

Dravadianero pay pabandi laga do

In hindi u will say.

Dravadianhero ko prathiband kardo....

Kitna ziada diff hai....yeh tau kaheen say nahi milta uffff yeh tau zameen aur aasman jaisa difference hai. So diff so diff

And if in urdu we want to say he violated forum rules so we will say in urdu:

Us nay forum kay asoolon ko tora

In hindi:

Us nay forum kay sanskaron ka virodh kiya.
Ha bahut different hey bai jaan ..ek chicken tikka aur doosra chicken 65

. .
But the conversation of Dari is yet richer and more cultured than Urdu. How our elders made a great mistake by not adopting Dari as the national language!

Dari is cultured and better than hindi but not urdu.
But Hindi and Urdu speakers can understand each other pretty easily? Why? Vocabulary and script doesn't make a language, the basic grammar and syntax does.

Urdu has more loan words from Persian as compared to Hindi, whereas there are more Sanskrit words in Hindi than Urdu and that's the only difference between the two.
Ohhhhh plzzz gimme a break ......would u all wannabe pakistanis and wannabe urdu speakers like those silly chart posters and rest of u will overcome ur inferiority complexes and leave us pakistanis alone?
If i play ur hindi bhasha news bulletin i get zilch except for some basic words...i dont even know what the shiz is going on. I wrote those difficult words in a post.....imay not have used them corectly there but how many pakistanis know what they mean? Hardly any?
Similarly, if we use our pure urdu with complex urdu words u wudnt get much abt wht we are saying.

Secondly, u guys really need to know ur current day hindi is nothig but a watered down version to mke it as close to urdu as possible because ur bollywood has to reach all the audiences, pakistani, indians...and with actul hindi, pakistanis will barely understand what they mean.
Any pkistani cn watch ur news bulletin it will leave their head aching cuz God knows what voc u guys use.

Apni hindi urdu bana kay bolo gay tau urdu hee lagy gee na.
I cn still better understand what a persian wud say then hearing total alien hindi words.

Ha bahut different hey bai jaan ..ek chicken tikka aur doosra chicken 65

See if u want to try and be like us thennnn i really dont care.....someday u guys will learn to carve out ur identities independent of pakistanis.
Lolzz but pakistanis enjoy the whole wannabe scene from accrss the border and shameless atempts by dravadians to absorb their languages. Goes to prove how superior pakistanis are. And how some despos are trying to ape us .

DUTCHISTAN: Turkish Hindi Common Words
How about writing all these words in HINDI....You know that shanniwar and whatnot which actually is Hindi ....

Not to derail an very interesting lingustic thread - i speak 6 languages - my question is as follows:

On the C-band dish i have i receive a lot of asian channels from across entire Asian continent. When I have IRINN, I dont hear any single english word in Farsi, yet when I tuned to Indian channels, they have 70% english/30local language words mixed up to the point of annoyance not to mention the twisted accent. Similarly, i receive Dawn channel and a few others from Pakistan, the same trend. I see the same issue with Moroccan version of arabic with mixture of french.

Is there a problem with these volks that they cannot speak their own languages correctly that they have to mix in English? In our local Tswana, Sotho, Zulu, afrikaans etc, english words and substitution just does not occur. Is there an inferior complex. If you want to speak English, then bloody well speak English, if you speak Hindi or Urdu or Arabic or whatever, then just speak that language. This language pollution is pathetic.

Sorry to derail - I am trying to point out whether it is Urdu or Hindi, I see it completely now polluted with English to the point of complete corruption. If you want to speak a language, speak it in its entirity.

The Balto-Slavic and Indo-Iranian seemed to have split fairly recent, only about 5000 years ago.

The Germanic on the other hand has many loanwords from Slavic but also from Celtic, because the Germanic people are essentially the mixture between the Celtic/Slavic/Native Northern Europeans, that's why its language also has multiple roots.

Although the Indo-Iranian people have also diversified their gene pool later, but the root of their language still remains quite monotonous, that's why many Slavic speakers can still easily understand both Sanskrit and Avestan.

Slavs have a lot Iranic loan words , some people actually suggest that Slavs separated from Balto-Slavic continuum under Scythian influence. Even Slavic word for "wanderer" - "Skitinitsa" derives from Slavic name for Scythians (Skiti) which is testament of their nomadic way of life.

Hindu and Slavic religion:

Hindu Svarga - Slavic Svarog

Hindu Shiva - Slavic Zhiva(na)

Hindu Vala - Slavic Veles etc.

VEDIC-SLAVIC SIMILARITIES

Popular history in attempts to explore ancient European roots focuses mostly on Nordic and Greeko-Roman traditions. For unclear reasons, Slavic culture is often omitted or presented in a very limited way. Too bad, because insight into ancient Slavic religions brings a whole new perspective on our Indo-European heritage.

Sanskrit word bhaga meaning “lord”, but it also means “wealth” and “prosperity”. Bhaga, with a capital “B” also happens to be one of the primary deities featured in the oldest known sacred text on Indo-European religion, the Rig Veda. In all Slavic languages “Bog” is the term for god.

In the Slavic religion, Svarga is heaven. In Sanskrit, Svarga is heaven too.

Varuna is said to punish liars and oath-breakers. The stars are said to be his “a thousand-eyed spies”. Slavs believed that their mighty dead watch them and their eyes were said to shine down upon them from Svarga.

Triglav is a Slavic word for god "with three heads", like Hindu Trinity (Trimurti). Triglav cut his heads off to give life to the Red God Svetovid, White God Svarog and Black God Veles. Svarog and Veles fought with each other and Svetovid tried to mediate.

Slavic Svetovid, God of Creation has four faces, like Four Headed Brahma, Lord of Creation.

Horned Veles could be related to Persian/Mesopotamian bull headed deities. But this god of underground is similar to Vedic Vala. Veles, the god of darkness, fought with Svarog, the God of Light. It has its parallels in the Indo-Aryan worship of Mitra and Varuna, and Iranian worship of Ahuramazda and Aryman.

Ziva/Siva or Zyvie - is a deity of nature, fertility and change, like Lord Shiva. A similarity with Sanskrit appears in the fact that the word "ZIVA" means (in Sanskrit) "the one who is kind". Another similarity between Shiva and Ziva - goddess Kali and Morena, the sister of Ziva. Both Kali (Hindu goddess) and Morena (Slavic goddess) are goddesses of death. Slavic Morena has its equivalent in the Sanskrit word maraNaanta (coming to death).

Slavic Zorya, resembles Sanskrit “Surya” and is the goddess of morning and evening stars. Her mother Lada, the goddess of harmony, is often accompanied with swans, like Saraswati.

Rudra, which sounds like the word used for the most ancient Slavic god - Rod, who was the primordial god - creator of the universe.

Good point. There is a reason I said Hindi-Urdu in the title. The colloquial form of Hindi is very close to Urdu. This is in part to the interactions between Turkic & Persian empires with India while the other reason being the influence of Bollywood on the masses. Following are some of the famous screenwriters for reference.

You are right in that the formal written format, Hindi has alternate words for these and were derived from Sanskrit.

Hindi-Urdu
Never heard of it...Just coz an indian speaks Urdu doesnt make it him speaking Hindi-Urdu....

If someone speaks Spanish or Italian or a mix no one on the planet will call it Spanish-Italian....

formal written format of Hindi
even the formal wrriten form of Hindi
Its not just the written...even in your dramas, news broadcast and what not use Hindi words which I would never understand calling it Hindi-Urdu is just trying to pass some inferiority complex you have that you want to show that Hindi can be similar to Urdu ....

take the word prata from the video in this thread: Congressmen tie pigeon inside rocket to welcome their leader – A must watch for Rahul Gandhi

I have no idea what that means...and that is just 1 word....

I tried watching Anupum's show when Boman and Paresh Rawal were on it.....I probably ONLY understood 2 -3 words from the whole show! so no there is no such thing as Hindi-Urdu....Hindi is Hindi - alien to Urdu speakers and Urdu is Urdu adapted by indians to make Bollywood sound nicer or something...

True but the reality is that the Bollywood movies are called Hindi movies and not Urdu movies even though for most part they use Urdu words. Also, people in India speak in Urdu most of the time while thinking that they are speaking in Hindi. Hence, I coined this word called Hindi-Urdu.

. .
Here is the formula

Persian and Urdu are to Arabic what French and English are to Latin respectively.

Hindi is a little more hindu-stani form of Urdu.

.
Its urdu not hindi indians.
Sharam nahi aati iney urdu ka naam b naam b change kar diya.

Try not to be an idiot. You obviously know nothing about the languages in question. If at all they can be called two different languages.

These are loanwords,I guess.

Just look at the grammar and you will get the point.

Above mentioned are urdu words not hindi. Yes urdu is influenced by turkisk and persian.

Would you like to explain what is the difference between Urdu 'words' and Hindi 'words'? If you had said 'nouns', I would not have objected.

Urdu, Punjabi, koshur and pahari have nothing to do with hindi soooo shoooooo those who are trying to add those ridiculous charts , duh!!!

Urdu , koshur and pashto are very close to persian.

Now even the village idiot has an opinion on the matter.

Sharam anay kay leeay honi bhi chaheeay insaan may....they are shamelessly stealing punjabi, urdu and koshur..and showing them as branches of hindi.. Duh!!! Uth kay ajatay hain kahan say log.

There are some levels of ignorance against which one is quite helpless. This sob sister is one of those outstandingly ignorant persons. Really a benchmark.

Avestan (ancient Persian) and Sanskrit are very close.

And correct me if I am wrong, but the history of what is Turkey today from ancient times has nothing or very little to do with modern (or even medieval) Turks.

Did you read what the imbeciles came out with earlier, Doc? This is staggering. Can they be for real?

Did you take my slide seriously???? :haha:

Sanskrit is way older than these languages.

The relationship is a little less direct than you might imagine, although what you have said is correct.

In what way is Urdu closer to Persian?

And may I ask how do you differentiate Urdu from Hindi?
Curious to know from knowledgeable linguists like you.

Don't even bother.

They had Abraham Lincoln speaking Malayalam, under the impression that was a language similar to Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Potohari, Pahari, Koshur or Kashmiri - the lot. They don't have even the bare elements of knowledge about the subject, but think they can make up for it with missionary zeal.

Everything about it is different from u guys. If u guys try to talk like urdu speakers as in pakistnis it doesnt mean hindi urdu ban jaey gee.

In hindi:

Us nay forum kay sanskaron ka virodh kiya.

Just to illustrate how ignorant is ignorant.

good to know that u r not one of those watching star plus all the time and irritating and frustrating everyone else in home...:enjoy:

.....And of course, the chorus.....
