I wish separate tracks to be constructed for ambulances on our roads. Those tracks should never be blocked no matter what. Separate tracks mean no other traffic should be allowed on those tracks, no blockade of those tracks at any cost, strict rules to keep obstructions away from those tracks.

And meanwhile if the metro bus tracks could be shared and opened for free movement of ambulances. Please .............. see if you can promote this.

Why is it necessary to have separate lanes for ambulances on normal roads? The moment a siren turns on, isn’t it a rule that ambulances/police cars should be given immediate priority and all cars should move to a side giving way? It’s the most common sense, humane, logical thing to do. This should be regulated by law and for those who don’t comply risking lives of others should be summoned in court in addition with a fine. It is a criminal offence not giving medical assistance gateway

15 years ago students came to me with a simple solution

Awareness: Traffic police makes a promotional video how to deal with emergency vehicles on the road by making roam on the road once you hear the siren

Technique: Use the CCTV cameras on the traffic signal to asses the situation and plan the route. GPS devices monitor the flow of traffic and recommend the routes. Instead of allocating separate lanes for emergency vehicle use the middle lane made free by halting the traffic left and right.

This is normally a diploma based project and its 20 years old. I have no idea what student are coming up with these days but all they come up with is left for the vultures of corruption to loot and steal.

Theoretically speaking, the metro lane are already there to be used in case on an emergency. Not for your regular every day kind of emergencies (unfortunately) but for a major disaster, road accident or a terrorist attack.

As for the extra lane, it is not practical to be honest. Just consider that while a regular 30 min drive in your city, how many fire brigade units or ambulance you come across daily? One? Two? Three max? (talking about a 30 min drive, and being honest, the average can’t be more than 1). However, during that same drive how many other civil vehicles you cross? 1500 to 2000. It is not practical to launch a new lane for 2 vehicles as if there are funds available, the 1500 vehicles can do better with an extra lane.

However, there is another thing that I have always had in mind and had an opportunity to share it with our DCO as well, it Is about restricting certain type of traffic to certain lanes. The problem that I noticed which made me think on these lines is that no matter how wide a highway is, no matter how many lanes are there, the traffic will suck as long as your motorcycle rikshaws, bikes and donkey carts are moving in right most high speed lane. This is just ridiculous and no amount, ABSOLUTELY NO AMOUNT of lanes, underpasses or fly overs can address that traffic problem unless this Is fixed. TO me, if you can fix you bikes, rikshaws and other such slow moving traffic to left lane, keep central lane for general traffic and the right lane for high speed traffic, cars and over taking, the normal three lane road will never face a traffic jam. Get your donkeys running in the right lanes and even 7 lanes won’t be enough! It is as simple as that.

This is not the UK,there is to much traffic in some places where it is impossible to move to a side.

UK ambulances are far bigger in comparison to Pakistan’s and Pakistan’s Road’s are far wider than UK’s. It’s the psycholical response and the law that needs to be enforced. I’ve witnessed people squeeze tight to give Ambulances a way. This is not impossible in Pakistan.
