The era of sending manned aircrafts into SAM zones has long passed. Today, missiles and drones are the real Solutions. Besides the stealth unmanned interceptors are the future of air battles.

SU 35 is a good addition but just an addition nothing more. We won't be paralyzed without it. And our scientists are not sleeping, they are working hard to develop a trustworthy Turbo fan engine. Time consuming but sure to come.

SU 35 was in fact a fill the gap solution for the time being, when Iran finally develops own platform, you would see them behind IRIAF doors offering their retarded platforms.

It is not a matter of survival.

Su-35 would be a nice addition to strike precisely bases and groups backed by Israel such as Komala/others if needed without entering neighbor airspace and saving missiles and achieving the best damage output against them without hurting civilians as the west PR always uses this against Iran, this Komala base and small terrorist groups and gangsters near the borders aren't suited to be struck by ballistic missiles that makes unecessary damage with their CEP, but precision bombs. And Su-35 has a big number of pylon to install Iranian/Russian/Chinese air to ground weapons and bombs

It would provide Iran a new platform to study instead of keeping the F-5 and also retiring the J-7N jets and the blind Mirage, and even Su-27 would be a good platform to study

Also to defend borders from small threats such as "malfunctioning Azerbaijan drones" that could enter Iran airspace

Big news [if true] especially with the R-73,as the older western supplied aircraft are badly lacking in modern a2a missiles,to put it mildly.
Hopefully we`ll also see the R-73 integrated with both the F5 and F1 as well.

He is also talkjng about HMDS..digitized pilot helmet with 360 degree situational awareness..

Lots of info in this interview..in my opinion we are heading towards KOWSAR-2 with Iranian digital Radar, 5th Gen avionics including HMDS....

More of the interview with Admiral Rastegary head of the IEI:

• We have collected F35 Electromagnetics signatures (finger prints)
• We now have fully developed an Integrated Air defence network (fault tolerant network!)
• We now have developed a Command and Control systems for ground operations
• We have developed smart ammunition so now we are at One round One target situation including top attack Anti armor round (missiles) that can select their targets at "descent" phase.

None of Iran's fleet apart from maybe Kowsar (only because it has modern avionics) would even be compatible with such an advanced system. Even the Su-35s Iran is buying have a helmet mounted targeting system but not a helmet mounted display.

Check China’s SU-35 (both Russian done upgrades on behalf of China and Chinese done upgrades after owning the fighter jets) to see how versatile the platform is for upgrading. China replaced their SU-35 helmets with their own domestic ones with full Russian support.

People act like SU-35 is a static platform that cannot be touched and is set into stone.

if these are true , we will have kowsar-2 as soon as the engine become ready and there won't be any need for wasting money on importing 20+ year old foreign designed aircraft anymore

it again affirm as it predicted previously Kowsar and Kowsar-2 will be the future of Iran Air force fighting force

it can be touched but don't worth it just for 24 of them , china probably use that helmet on its 20 or so su-35 plus its 250+ j-16 and 400+ j-11and 60+ j-15
in short they did that for 700+ aircraft not just mere 24 of them

A good point is that the helmet could actually be for helicopters, ala Apache. That would actually make a bit more sense considering Iranian heliborne weapons and systems development is ahead of their fixed-wing counterparts. Could be used on deeply upgraded Cobras or Shahed-216 (if it's ever finished).
