A member of Iraq's Yazidi religious minority, Khalil, trapped with thousands of others on a mountain as Islamist militants advance, described their plight in an interview on Wednesday with the BBC's Hadya Alalawi.

We're hiding inside caves. We have nothing - no food and no water.

We've been under siege for four days. We eat once a day - either in the morning or at night.

We've managed to get some basic food supplies from neighbouring areas, but three children died today because of starvation. Seven women and children have died since yesterday because of dehydration.

A lot of the people here have disabilities or suffer from serious illnesses like diabetes. It's 50C here and we're being bombarded indiscriminately.

We need help. Until now, no humanitarian aid has been delivered and no help provided by aid organisations - not the Red Cross or the Red Crescent, or even the United Nations. The Iraqi government and the Iraqi president have not helped. Nothing at all.

There are clashes going on between the Islamic State [IS] and the Yazidis. But we don't have weapons so what are we supposed to do?

When IS fighters arrived in Sinjar, they said there was no place for us in the area and that we had to leave. But where can we go? When they attacked Mosul, many people fled to Sinjar.

The Peshmerga [Kurdish fighters] have not helped us at all. We haven't seen any of their soldiers. When they found out that IS was coming to shell Sinjar, they all left for Kurdistan.

On top of all the persecution and humiliation we have suffered, IS fighters now want to kill us. They want to slaughter us.

Yazidis under fire

  • 40,000 Yazidis are believed to be trapped on Mount Sinjar
  • At least 130,000 have escaped to the Kurdish north
  • The Yazidis are a religious sect located in northern Iraq, Syria and the Caucasus
  • Their faith is rooted in ancient Zoroastrianism, Christianity and Islam
  • The principal divine figure, Malak Taus (Peacock Angel), is the supreme of seven angels who ruled the universe after God created it
  • Yazidis are regarded as devil worshippers by many Muslims and other groups
  • There are an estimated 500,000 Yazidis, mostly living on Iraq's Nineveh plains
  • In August 2007 jihadists attacked Yazidi villages in Nineveh, killing between 400 and 700 people

If isis keep advancing more refugees will come to turkey on top of the

This is a humanitarian and now a resource strain for Turkey. The country of Turkey has already accommodated the Syrian refugees , and now, with the dire situation in Iraq. I hope that more countries will be able to take up the refugees.

.
Any real evidence for this claim?

No, but judging by the articles circulating regarding the training part, Allahu Alim.

ISIS is sent to reduce Iran's influence over Iraq through USA's sponsored government, Maliki; however, that could have been thwarted if Maliki was competent to deal crises on front.

One thing for sure now that they have unleashed dogs now; ISIS aka Khawarij - worst scum in mankind, Allahu Alim.

As for funding part; Saudi Arabia/Oman/Qatar/Kuwait, Allahu Alim.

Fleeing is the only choice for now. Iraq is doomed till next several decades judging by Iraq's condition. Iraq could use professional Muslim army. I am counting on the situation in Pakistan to get better. Pakistan army is most equipped to deal against terrorist groups such as TTP. In fact, both Pakistan and Iran can work together to eradicate ISIS. Iraq will not accept help from outsider. Despite of Iraq's gov't plea for outside's help, but Iraq's gov't is losing support from Iraq and no longer can be spokeman for Iraq if the instable situation in Iraq continue to persist.

Kudo to Turkey for stepping up. Turkey should step in instead of USA.

Clearly, the point of my post went above your head. Thanks for confirming my stereotype.

Learn to accept your mistakes aswell... you might learn something from them.

How many Pashtuns do you estimate have been killed in the drone strikes, as a percent of the total Pashtun population?

Is tht a question for real? if somebody kill 2 of your siblings would the "percentage" left matter?

Obama has authorized humanitarian aid airdrops to the Yazidi, as well as airstrikes if ISIS advances on them.

Situations like this cause my blood to boil. We, Americans, are damned if we do, damned if we don't. Just watch. Kurds getting gassed by Saddamn? Why didn't you do something, America? Depose Saddam? Damn you for creating instability, America. Surge in Iraq to stabilize it? You are trying to colonize Iraq and steal its oil, America! Withdraw from Iraq? You let Iraq fall apart, America! Intervene to save the Yazidi from barbarians? You are crusaders who kill Muslims, America!

Just watch. The usual suspects will come out of the woodwork with these accusations shortly.

here comes the world policeman US again

why not Russia or Iran comes to the aid of these helpless people?

why the US 6000 miles away!

The US is the very reason Iraq is in this Crisis. It was much stable under Saddam.

ISIS are fighting a sectarian war.

If you are the wrong sect, or God forbid, the wrong religion, then you had best run.

ISIS has been fighting for quite a while now, anyone who hasn't got the message needs to get it.

Turkey is responsible for the current situation in both countries as they built up Isis. I feel no shred of sympathy for the Turks rather for the innocent people who's lives the Turks have ravaged

America is allowed to bomb ISIS but the Syrian Airforce is not allowed to do so., where is the logic ??

many things, called ISIS revolutionaries, now she's crying at ISIS

Many revolutionaries in history appeared as positives in the beginning, but its true colors showed later on. For example, the French revolution , which was widely accepted by the Estates General , but as more radical forces took the reigns of power, extremist ideology manifested into extremist policies -- for example Maximilien Robespierre, who ushered in the Reign of Terror-- resulting in the near extermination of the French aristocracy, and any intellectual who spoke against the 'Revolutionary Republic'. One other example would be the Khmer Rouge, which was largely popular at first, in fact receiving the applause of many Cambodian politicians and intellectuals in the first months of their assuming power. But later on, the Khmer Rouge was responsible for the liquidation of over 2 million Cambodians -- nearly a quarter of Cambodia's population.

Given this nature of the asymmetrices of revolutionary groups, can we not shed some understanding of the Yidizi MP? It can be agreed upon that ISIS has now shown its true colors -- it is not only anti-Alawite, anti-Shii, but anti anything that does not share its Salafi Jihadist ideology. This is the same group that even dares to threaten Kingdom of Saudi Arabia , and threatens to destroy the Kaabah in the Holy City of Mecca.

Dude you havent learned that it was all propaganda back then along with WMD?
just tell us what was happening before US invaded Iraq, Iraq was a stable country. If US attacked Iraq on the pretext of Kurd genocide which no one ever heard of before US decided to attack Iraq and that too years after it had happened with US supplied chemical weapons. Colin Powel had given three reason for attacking Iraq.
1. Weapon of mass destruction
2. Al quaida Link witH Saddam
3. Kurd Genocide

if no 1 and 2 were proven wrong what makes you think 3 is true
dont try to paint yourself as angels!!

The US has made its second airdrop to the Yazidis. 3 planes dropped 72 bundles of supplies including 28,000 meals and 1,500 gallons of water.
