BAGHDAD (AP) — France will join the U.S.-led airstrikes targeting extremists in Iraq as part of an expanding international effort to combat the Islamic State group, Iraq’s new prime minister said after talks with the French president on Friday.
Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi’s remarks came after talks with Francois Hollande, who was in Baghdad to bolster Iraq’s new government as it struggles to unite the nation amid the rampage by the Islamic State group.

“In order to confront Daesh, we need aerial support from our allies,” Abadi said, referring to the group by its Arabic acronym. “The French president promised me today that France will participate in this effort, hitting the positions of the terrorists in Iraq.”

Al-Abadi spoke at a joint press conference with Hollande in Baghdad. Neither of the two leaders provided details about when the French could join the aerial campaign.

Hollande added that France has delivered four arms shipments and 66 tons of humanitarian aid to Iraq.Speech

This is such a terrible waste of people's time.

First NATO leader US creates ISIS to destabilize a Maliki regime that has grown too close to Iran for American comfort. Then when they see the monster they created has gone out of control, pretend to be the global saviour and ask 'coalition of the willing' to start bombing what they created again.

It is the same as what it was in the Afghan war in 80s.

If only US administration had more sensibility in the first place.

They make the same mistakes over and over, drown countries, end up murdering thousands who had nothing to do with being their enemies and then say that there has been global meltdown.

Maybe US are not as stupid as people think they are

I think that the US funded and nutured ISIS as a direct challenge to the Iranian supported Iraqi and Syrian governments. Iran was just becoming too powerful for their liking.

Now that ISIS have managed to wreck both Syria and Iraq, they have gotten too powerful and need to be reigned back a bit.

US wants to keep the Middle-East in constant war and turmoil in order to rule the place.

I wonder if it's possible for Rafales to be used on U.S carriers for operations.

Today,2 rafales took off from an air base in the UAE to conduct reconnaissance flights over Iraq...

Its always been in constant war for millenia, not exactly a blip in history.

Its good to see other European countries getting involved in getting rid of these scums(which we supported in the beginning though). We should exterminate them from the surface of the earth and help stablize the region.

To be honest though, i'm getting tired of seeing our governments bombing the hell out of these defenseless/rag tag islamists fighters in the middle east/north Africa. It will be good to see a real fight involving a big/Powerful country.:D
