Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and Vice President Nouri al-Maliki are set to participate in the upcoming Iraqi general elections on two different lists after a reported meeting between the two on Saturday.

A statement read that Abadi will form a coalition for the elections called Nasr and Islah, meaning Victory and Reform in Arabic, while Maliki will head a coalition under the title “State of Law”.

RELATED: Will Iraq’s upcoming elections be dead on arrival?

Iraqi laws do not allow members of the armed forces, including the Shiite Popular Mobilization Unit (PMU) militias to run for elections. An exception is made if members first quit their armed role and disarm.

Maliki is the head of Dawa Party, the backbone of the ruling Shiite National alliance that includes almost all prominent Iraqi Shiite parties.

Foreign policy wise you see 2 sides here. Maliki with Russia and Iran, Abadi with US/NATO. Although Abadi's camp also includes Amiri who is with the Iranian side.

Yes, good guy Abadi with a brain unlike Maliki who flushed the country to hell. He reversed the losses Maliki made, if Maliki wins the country will sink again.

Americans betrayed Maliki, Maliki at first was American puppet and destroyed Sadr anti American movement in the sake of Americans happiness but later when he decided to kick out occupier solders. American created problem for him through their vassals in Iraq army and their tribal gangs.
Governor of Mosul and military ranks sold Mosul to Americans and ISIS to blackmail Maliki will to kick US out.
I remember before 2014 was huge argument and fight b/w Maliki in one side and Americans + those become ISIS supporters in other side.
Maliki wanted to clean military and government from those gangs but Americans was against these Maliki decisions. However later Abadi finished Maliki job.

Americans are who push Iraq through civil war to justify their presence. Today nobody more speaking about American presence in Iraq.

Anyone but Nouri al-Maliki.

Al-Abadi has done a really good job. Hopefully he will win again as it does not seem that there are any better alternatives let alone proven ones.

The highly incompetent Nouri al-Maliki was a puppet of Iran if anything. A close ally to Iran (Mullah regime) on all fronts. That US drivel won't work with people familiar with Iraq.
