The head of Iraq's parliamentary committee on security and defense, Hakim al-Zamili, in an interview with Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, said that Baghdad could turn to Moscow for help after Turkey had allegedly breached Iraq’s sovereignty.

‘Turkish Troops on Iraqi Ground Could Be Used to Fight Against PKK’
Numerous reports suggest that on Friday Turkey sent approximately 130 soldiers to norther Iraq. Turkish forces, deployed near the city of Mosul, are allegedly tasked with training Peshmerga, which has been involved in the fight against Daesh, also known as ISIL.

On Saturday, Baghdad described the move as "a serious violation of Iraqi sovereignty," since it had not been authorized by Iraqi authorities.

"We may soon ask Russia for direct military intervention in Iraq in response to the Turkish invasion and the violation of Iraqi sovereignty," Iraqi lawmaker al-Zamili said.

'Turkish Invasion': Iraq Should Treat All Intruders 'Like It Treats Daesh'
Earlier, Hakim al-Zamili threatened Turkey with a military operation if the Turkish soldiers do not leave Iraq immediately.

The parliamentarian reiterated that Turkey sent troops into Iraqi territory without notifying the government.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi urged Ankara to immediately pull out its forces, including tanks and artillery, from the Nineveh province. Iraqi President Fuad Masum referred to the incident as a violation of international law and urged Ankara to refrain from similar activities in the future, al-Sumaria TV Channel reported.

My opinion:
Turkey has again done stupidity of the highest order . Now Iraq is calling out to Russia. Russia had been waiting for an opportunity to make Turkey pay for the downing of Su-24. Now,I expect that Russia will do it.

Very true. You can't attack Russia and then hide behind America for protection.

As Georgia found out in 2008, as the Philippines found out in 2012, and as the Ukraine found out in 2014.

America's policy is never to enter a "direct" conflict against a major power (especially nuclear powers). They kept true to this policy all the way throughout the Cold War, and up till today.

They realized they don't need to fight directly, they can sacrifice their pawns instead.

Russia isnt stupid to enter Iraq when its already engaged in Syria which is one hell of a combat ground because of proxy war. Iraq need to come out of US influence first. Kick all americans out of the country , ask them to leave their bases . then they can ask Russia to trust them ...

. .
ground troop is costly and unneccessry unless you are forced to. What russia should do is to provide large ammo to any local malitia who are willing to fight turks, I believe there are bunch of them. this will exahust turks to their last blood, a game they could not afford to play.

Today news is that russia just airdroped 5 tons of ammo to turkey kurds, this is a good start. Russia should have the patience to play this kind of game, make sure Assad safe first, then focus its resource on turks. most countries around will be happy to see a broken turkey, including China.
so everybody could contribute a little bit, one way or the other.

Well; since you tagged me, guess its only polite that i reply/contribute. I will make it short though.
For one i dont think this forum should allow any threads with subjective titles that involves empty guesses .i.e topics with 'SHOULD,COULD,WOULD,MIGHT' etc etc. Since if we all did then this forum will be full with hypothetical threads.

secondly , Even if the non existent government in Baghdad was to call for Russian help, Russia wont get involved simply because even the war Russia is already fighting/involved in Syria is already more than enough for Russia. why will Russia want to open another front with a big enemy like Turkey in Iraq, plus the U.S , U.K also have a major military presence in Iraq from where they carry out strikes in Syria and Iraq itself against ISIS and other terrorists groups whole providing training/logistics and air support for Iraqi soldiers. In short it will only stretch Russia's limited resources in Syria even more at a time she cant afford to. So this news is more like a desperate diplomatic message by the useless Iraqi government to Turkey.:)

. . .
The Iraqi goverment ought to be gratefull that we are cleaning up their mess. The only real force that was fighting against Daesh was the Peshmerga whilst the Iraqi army only retreated and ran. They can order all they want but the stationing of Turkish soldiers and weaponry is legimate as far as i am concerned.

That's exactly what i said on another thread on here. The Iraqi government is useless/and barely has any control of the country. Their soldiers are not any better either, reason they have to rely on militias(or foreign forces like Iranians soldiers) to fight their battles. If the U.S/U.K where to leave then it will only make things even worse for Iraq. ISIS and other terror groups will overrun Baghdad in a matter of weeks.

Iraqi government should be grateful at least that it has allies who want to help.:)

Greatest hypocrites on planet, funny isn't it? You claim that a Russian jet violated your airspace for 17 seconds and bragged about 'right of self defense' and now you are again bragging about your illegal presence in Iraq. There is no limit to your chest thumping, is there? What you think is legitimate doesn't matter. When the central gov of Iraq has asked you to leave, it means essence of your presence is illegal, though nothing that Turks are not familiar with, just like recognizing the illegal Turkish Cyprus as a country, which ironically, only Turkey recognizes that in the world.

The Iraqi goverment ought to be gratefull that we are cleaning up their mess.

Seriously, Turkey is the last country on planet earth to brag about fighting ISIS, while it was through Turkey that tens of thousands of foreign terrorists entered Syria and Iraq to join ISIS and Nusra.

How funny as your entire comment is hypocricy in itself. Wasnt it you who told me that the Russian presence in Syria was legitimate because the Assad regime allows it to do so? What makes you say that our presence is illegimate when the Kurdistan Regional Goverment themselfs asked us to do so. Barking about hypocricy and double standards aint gonna change reality buddy.

Piss off lol.
