Iran’s Army plans to procure 800 Karrar advanced battle tanks

Any news about Karrar put into services?

.
Oh
The Karrar is a T-72 with makeup to look like a T-90, just another F-313 for propaganda.

Iran needs to stop these bullshit claims of fake achievements and settle for reverse engineering older tech in bulk and incremental upgrades (which it also does to be fair). Insane to think it can somehow match the technological capabilities of a T-90 which has had billions of investment and years of testing.
Dear o dear

. . . . .
We dont know as they said the same about jf17 and alkhalid and al zarar

Indians are your source news not my fault. Jf17 in action this week see the result. Alkalid tank is fully deployed main tank. Not sure your point insecurities maybe?

Looks Cool from the Outside. From the Side looks like T72 and Abrams Hybrid Design

. . . .
Karrar is not fake or a mock up.

No immediate need for new battle tanks, thus Army won’t put in major order until they hear what Russia is willing to offer in 2020 and beyond.

Why buy sub par T-90 clone when you can get the real thing with upgraded engine and everything else?

Army is going to play the waiting game, just like the airforce.

That makes no sense though. There is absolutely an immediate need for new battle tanks as proven by the countless ventures and projects Iran underwent to upgrade and supplement its tank fleet. Their tank fleet is ancient and useless against modern weaponry as proven in the Syrian Civil War. Tanks with modern armor and soft and hardkill active protection systems are a necessity. Everyone took this from the war, Syria learned it the hard way, Turkey learned it the hard way and if Iran is smart they wont have to.

Iran’s “tank” projects are nothing more than low intensity R&D with limited funding. Hence why they haven’t led to major mass production. Iran is steadily increasing technology and knowledge but not Mass producing.

Iran’s tank fleet is filled with upgraded T-72’s which is the chassis that the T-90 is built on. They have been upgraded with laser jammers, upgraded targeting systems, ERA, and hull design. So they aren’t 1970’s era tanks. Even Russia still produces a upgraded version of T-72 called the T-72B3M which was used in army games.

Lastly don’t quote Syrian civil war when you know nothing about the war and how armour was used.

Syria had large amounts of armour however ended up lacking abundance of specialized tank crews from losses and defections early on, thus you had inexperienced crews being used along with officers.

Lastly like all major Arab armies, armour was used incorrectly and was not upgraded during its life. Syrian army doctrine was based on Soviet Union doctrine of large amounts of armour attacking an opposing conventional force. On paper each tank might not be as strong as Western tank but the thinking was that outnumbering western tanks on the battlefield would lead to winning the outcome. Syrian civil war was not conventional warfare.

Anyone knows armour fails against guerrilla warfare and asymmetrical tactics. It simply was not designed for that. You couple that with terrible tactics such as sending in tanks without proper air support or infantry and you get a large piece of moving armour that is vulnerable to a guy hiding in a bush.

Furthermore, Syria had a terrible habit of moving tanks in flat open terrain allowing anti tank crews to pick them apart. Or parking in an area where it was exposed on all sides.

But here is the funny thing, Syria then developed a simple laser jammer that was attached on EVERYTHING from pick up trucks to APCs to tanks to old tanks.

You know what happened?

TOW attacks began dropping by the BOATLOAD. Soon they were very insignificant compared to the daily videos that were being published all over social media from 2012-2014.

So again you are wrong. Even the best tanks will get ripped apart by asymmetrical warfare look at Merkava tanks in 2006 Lebanon war. Look at Abrams tanks during Iraq war. Look at Abrams tanks and Bradley APCs during Yemen war today.

Either way my point still holds. Tanks are one of the LAST things Iran needs right now. Iran already has APS technology, laser jammer technology, reactive armour tech, it can put together an advanced tank (minus advanced engine) if it wants today.

The chances of a land invasion of Iran is NON-EXISTANT. The only force that could do a land invasion of Iran would be the US army and that would at the minimum require 500,000 soldiers with a upward possibility of 750,000. No president in their right mind would order such an land invasion.

Iran’s threats have always been limited air campaign against high value targets.

So as a military planner you prioritize what you need TODAY or in the near future. Iran having 500 Next gen tank today or in 5 years makes ZERO difference to the overall equation. Iran could even wait another decade to do so.

Right now the priority is Air defense, missiles, navy, and then Air Force and then mechanized armour.

Lastly Iran army has already mentioned they are interested in T-90. It’s likely they want to see what the Russians can offer after arms embargo falls off before seeing wether to put in order for Karrar. Like I said the difference between now and the embargo expiring is 1 year and Iran can wait much longer than that before it needs to upgrade its mechanized armour.
