Iranian Shafaq jet trainer nears testing

A big mistake and waist of recourses!!!!!!!!!
Will the Shafaq be superior to the Saegheh? Doubt it! So what the hell is the point!

If you wanna start investing billions in the production model of any fighter 1st off it has to Superior in Speed, Range, Payload Capability, Maneuverability, Weapons System, RCS,... & yes Shafaq will have a greater range but in every other aspect it's inferior! So not worth the cost!

If your investing in a new Air Frame design for the future of your Air Force then u need to set clear requirements that takes into account the Aircraft it will be replacing & build something superior.

1.Aircraft must have 2 engines & combined thrust equal too or greater than the F-4
2.Aircraft must have an internal weapons by & this is NOT hard at all!
3.Aircraft must have a range = to or greater than the F-4 with Air refueling capabilities
4.Aircrat must have BVR capabilities
5.Aircraft must have built in IRST
6.Aircraft must redundant systems & be capable of withstanding an EMP
7Aircraft must have no vertical surfaces & reduce RCS
etc. etc.

Would the Shafaq be able to replace Iranian F-4's, F-1's, F-14, MiG-29's or Su-24's? Will it even be able to go up against the F-16 or J-10? The answer is NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!

Iran needs to STOP wasting time on building single engine fighters incapable of beating it's current fighters let alone going up against a future fighter!

Yes it is ... Saegheh is reverse engineering of f5 ....
Shafagh can replace f5 ; mirage f1 , f7 .....
It has bigger noise and can carry bigger and stronger radar than our current light fighters ....
Anyway our f5 are old fighters ( more than 40 years ) and have serious safety issues and should be replaced ..... and we have few F1 and f7 .....

WRONG! It can NOT replace the F-1 & the F-7 is a 60's era junk & yet still faster than the Shafaq!

F-5/Azarakhsh/Saegheh are Low & easy maintenance, low consumption & have a cheap airframe at Mach 1.6! which make it perfect for training & experiments.
Iran has been producing various part of it for year & is even producing it's engine! So all Iran needs to do is replace them with new Azarakhsh & saegheh with up graded avionics & cockpit.

To pay for the production cost of building an aircraft similar to one your already producing is absurd!

F-4's & F-14's were the backbone of Iran's Air force in a war that ended 30 years ago! So for Iran to pay for the production cost of an Aircraft that can't replace either is just flat out CRAZY!

What capability is Shafaq going to bring Iran's Air Force???? Will it have BVR capability? or will 10 F-15's be able to take out a fleet of 60 of them without giving up a single casualty???
Will it give Iran's Deep strike capability??? NO! Forget deep strike will the aircraft even be able to carry out a strike with 2 2000lb 400km outside Iran's boarders? Nope! Is it extremely fast & capable of intercepting incoming modern fighters? Nope! Or are we going to mass produce and beat the enemy with number & build 10 for every Saudi F-15? NO!
Is it a fighter that any country in their right mind would ever buy from us? NO!
Are we going to use it against terrorists? We have UAV's for that!

So what is it good for? Close Combat Support? Well I'm sorry to be the one to tell you but unless you have an A-10 or Su-25 then the close combat support of the old is DEAD! We have ground launched Precision guided artillery, MLRS, Missiles, ATGM, MANPAD's & unless it's coming to support you against another aircraft then it's useless!!! And the Shafaq is incapable of going up against a freaking F-16 so which fighter is the Shafaq spose to go up against? WHAT WILL BE IT PURPES?

If it's going to stick to its name sake as a trainer, then buidling it will be a good proof of concept and a good trainer.

Maybe Iran has other clandestine jet programs that are being worked on.

Also how many do you guys think will be produced?

Even if Iran build a prototype! Air Force Pilots will fly it and give their assessment vs the F-5/Saegheh/Azarakhsh
And after a few years testing it's maintenance costs.... Sorry I just don't see the appeal even if it was powered by 2 RD-33 Engines it still would have no appeal to me unless it had an internal weapons bay... That would make sense!!

Building a prototype is one thing & building a production model is another!
