A good possibility. I would also suggest the possibility of it being a small-caliber anti-submarine rocket but given the Damavand's basing in the Caspian, makes that theory unlikely.

The side by side of the Dagestan and Damavand is quite telling. The Dagestan (one of only two Gepard-class frigates in Russian service and quite unlike the later models sold to Vietnam) is slightly larger than the Damavand but not dramatically so (102 meters vs 94 meters length, 13 meters vs 11 meters beam). As part of their original kit, they were fitted with twice as many AshMs as the Damavand, two true CIWS, and 20 short-range SAMs at her disposal.

I don't think this was mentioned on this thread: Last Saturday IRIN publicly stated 44th Flotilla had made it back to home port from South Africa after a 5 month voyage.

I wonder what the repair bill was from Dormac. They do appear to have come through for them.

The restock is mostly being done with factories on the ground in Syria only smaller & more advanced components are being transferred via Air!
The war the Saudi & Israeli backed coalition has stared in Syria has backfired badly!
Before Syria was more cautious on what was supplied to Hezbullah but now because of their own (Saudi-Israeli) idiocy Syria has come to appreciate Hezbollah's importance more than before! Also Iran & Iraq are now not only allies but just as in Syria, Iraq too has come to understand the importance of the Iranian backed Shia Militia and again a bunch of Iranian trained guys armed with small arms and limited capabilities made a professional US backed, equipped & trained military look like a bunch of fools & untrustworthy so much so that Iraq's own PM publicly stats that if it wasn't for Iran, Iraq would have fallen in the hands of ISIS!

So the actions of the Saudi's has backfired and has instead strengthened the ties between Iran, Iraq, Lebanon & Syria! And the Shia crescent they feared that stretched from China to the Mediterranean they themselves helped to create & strengthen!
Now Iraqi PMU forces are better armed and trained, Hezbollah forces are better armed and trained & the government ties between Iran, Iraq, Syria & Lebanon are stronger than ever before!
And Saudi idiocy in Yemen has given Iranian backed shia forces a foothold in one of the most strategic locations off the Red Sea!
And the funny thing is that it's their own actions that's leading the way for Iran and all Iran is doing is reacting to their own idiocy!

South Africa has applied to the United Nations Security Council to sell missiles worth R1.5
billion to Iran.

The Rapport newspaper reported that this will be the biggest deal yet for Denel’s Umkhonto surface-to-air missile system.

The Umkhonto vertical launch surface-to-air missile was developed for the SA Navy’s Meko A200 class frigates, and has been in service since 2001.

The missile is high-velocity and infrared homing, providing defence against attacks from missiles and aircraft.

Although it is a surface-to-air missile, it is also capable of taking out stationary surface targets.

The Umkhonto was designed with a 23kg warhead for high-kill probability, unlike other missile systems in its class.

This news follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding in December 2016 between Iran and South Africa to boost defence and military cooperation.
According to the agreement, the countries will bolster cooperation in the fields of marine security and fighting organised crime.
Although Iran was removed from the United Nations’ list of countries to which no weapons can be provided, approval from the UN’s sanction committee is still needed for missile technology.

According to the Rapport, there is discomfort in political circles about South Africa’s plan to provide weapons to Iran.
