Iranian Navy | News and Discussions

the range and altitude of engagement and capabilities are a lot less than standard missile, that would made it repeating the mistake of SeaCat missiles that resulted in Sahand to Sank and Sabalan get heavily damaged. Majid can't protect any ship from enemy aircrafts as it is not designed for that

I am not saying replace SM with Majid. You can add Majid to Mowj without removing SM. Adding Mobin to Mowj won’t save it either. Majid is at least a more easy fix to Mowj’s lack of SHORAD defense.

I have news for you. None of the Mowj ships are surviving against even 1 F-35 or F-22 (if you are concerned about enemy aircraft). They aren’t built for stand alone defense they are supposed to be traveling with a destroyer or with a capable air defense ship that can keep enemy fighters at a distance. Russia lost its flag ship Black Fleet vessel to two anti ship missiles.

It was an ok design to copy back in early 2000’s when Iran Navy needed to add new ships to fleet. But it’s time to move on to heavier and more modern ships like the models they showed off.

those mowj ship in Iran navy supposed to defend themselves agianst anything also i still can't see any possible why for adding Majid to Mowj while keeping both Mehrab and Helipad
the place shown in the picture is where they put Mehrab at least it was the case in Damavand

Yeah in 1960 when they were designed. Even then they struggled. Battle tactics change.

Mowj will not survive if it’s not part of a larger group of ships. It is a different era today when even an Iranian F-4 can drop an accurate CM against a warship let alone any modern plane.

As for helipad, I was never a fan in this day and age. Whatever anti sub capability they give is a bit irrelevant when you make the ship more defenseless against aerial and low flying CM threats.

Mowj it is not suitable for combat missions. It is still a good ship for patrolling, intelligence (if they add proper COMINT/SIGINT sensors) and escort ships for keeping protected iranian SLOCs. But they lack large quantity of weaponry, they lack endurance and above all, they lack homogeneity.

Damavand II should be a standard in IRIN. Building three or four with same propulsion, sensors and weapons would pave the way for a modern and blue water navy. IRIN did it with Kaman class, with common equipment, and kept them modernized and well equiped, same should be done with more Mowj class.

After three or four of new Damavand IIs units, IRIN could go for a larger ocean frigate. The standard Type 054A/P can be built, equiped and trained inside Iran. But again we see new major units under IRGCN.

All in all Mowj is a bottleneck today for IRIN.

moudge class is test bed for new technologies in Iranian navy , not two of them are built with the same configuration.

and sadly Iranian navy uses moudge class in single ship formation accompanied by a supply ship , so the module is supposed to do all the things other ships in other navies do and however you try you can't turn a moudge ship into a blue water navy ship

I'd say Project Loghman will commence once all the Mowj class vessels are built, commissioned and become operational, am I right?

One of the photos published above, immediately noting that the smaller catamaran, has a larger free area towards the bow (indicated in orange), this would suggest that there is enough space to install a weapon system of larger dimensions than Katram 30mm which is supposed, given the space (red arrow) to become the weapon at the bow of the Soleimani class, who knows maybe the Fajr-27

Thats a catamaran that area if looked from front show little space for any thing under the deck.

What are the advantages of catamaran and trimaran hulls and what are the drawbacks? How does it fit into the IRGC-N's doctrine?

they are fast and hard to sink , that i can say , for trade of , you must see the final product , but the space inside the ship is certainly more limited compared to normal ships of the same size

i believe that 16 Sayyad-3 when i see it, from the same tweet
