Iranian submersible boats

  • modified design based on N-korea Taedong-B.
  • Length: 17m (56ft)
  • Beam: 3.3m (11ft)
  • Height: 3.5m (11.5)
  • Displacement: 22 tons
  • Speed: 40kt max surfaced, ~3kt submerged
  • Endurance: TBC -modest
  • Maximum Operating depth: 3m (10ft) with snorkel, 20m (66ft) max
  • Personnel: 8 (4x crew, 1-2 escorts, 1-3 infiltrators)
  • Payload: 2 x 324mm (12.7") lightweight torpedoes. Possible storage of MANPADS or RPGs and other crew weapons.
  • Powerplant: 2 x diesel engines (details TBC) plus two electric motors
  • Sensors: Basic Electro-optical (video), basic surface search / navigation radar, echosounder
  • In service: 2002 with IRGC naval arm

"NAHANG" Submarine

Iran's work on indigenous submarine started in early 1980s...Experiments were done with various designs..NAHANG was the first product that actually was commissioned by the navy (2006)..It is only 24 meters long ,3 meters wide and 400 ton displacement. The sub has a Diesel -electric propulsion and it used for mine laying and special ops...Only one Nahang was built and Iran switched to Ghadir class submarines.

That is a great post. I wonder if these models were just built or actually deployed in sea at some point.

nahang is iranian navy test bed for anything new related to submarines except weapon system

I was talking about the submarines in the museum not the serving Nahang.
My guess is that these were experimentations that did not meet the requirements...I remember many years ago there was a report that Iran's attempt to build a sub actually sank in the test pool..so yes they built them put them to test and then either did not work or they came up with a better idea...I guess it is normal process when you design something from scratch! also known as "learning curve" :undecided:

something like that , but honestly it seems air-force take better care of its experiments , that museum is some place that they throw these ships there to rust . they could take better care of them.some painting , protecting them from environment , connecting them to low voltage electricity . all the vehicles there are rusting, that bring me to next question . did they used the right alloy in these early experimentation ?

Fully agree...these museum pieces will be gold in a decade or so..one inlifetime creations that should not be lost..like those early 1980 drones they built...

As for right steel...if you ask me no..that is why they had to redo the Fateh haul all over again i remember some issues with type of steel and its presure endurance.

  • Has Controllable Pitch propeller (CCP) for greater range of manoeuvrability . The direction and speed of travel of the vessel can be changed without changing shaft rpm, or even changing the direction of shaft rotation
  • Has Dynamic Positioning (DP) system for dynamic stabilization of the ship
  • three on board laboratories and two freezers
  • Launch date: 2017
  • functions: sea mapping, physical oceanography, marine chemistry, marine biology, geology, sea geophysics, professional climatology including atmospheric and meteorology
  • customer: National Institute for Oceanography and Atmospheric Science.

Designed and produced by Private shipyard "ARVANDAN". The ship class is used for various tasks such as troop transport, or coastal patrol

  • Displacement 35 tons
  • length: 33 meter
  • Beam: 8 meters
  • propulsion : two diesel engines on two shafts
  • speed: 27 knots
  • Crew+troops: 86
  • weapons:1 × 12.7mm machine gun
  • Inservice: NASER111 and NASER 112

Iranian Fast Attack Crafts (FACs)
Iran has some of the fastest FACs in the world and in very large quantities (500++)..

The fastest military boat in Iran was designed based on the british "Blade runner" concept. The boat is named "Seraj-1" and has speed of 70 to 80 knots. It is reported that Iran is working towards designs of up to 100 knots for Seraj-2 and seraj-3
