Iranian boats fire shots at Singapore-flagged vessel in Persian Gulf

Five Iranian boats fired shots across the bow of a Singapore-flagged cargo vessel in the international waters of the Persian Gulf on Thursday, CNN reported, citing a U.S. official.

It was unclear if the shots hit the vessel, CNN said. After the shots, the cargo vessel turned to the national waters of the United Arab Emirates, where that country protected it using its coast guard, CNN also said.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy fired warning shots over Singapore-flagged cargo vessel, the Alpine Eternity, in international waters in the Gulf on Thursday, prompting the cargo vessel to flee into United Arab Emirates’ territorial waters, a U.S. official told Reuters, saying the account was based on preliminary information.

The United Arab Emirates sent Coast Guard vessels toward the cargo ship and at some point the Iranian ships turned away, the official said. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, was unaware of any U.S. Navy involvement.

A spokesman for the vessel’s Norwegian manager Transpetrol said the vessel was attacked at sea at 8 a.m. GMT on Thursday on its way to the UAE port of Fujairah.

“The nature of the attack is still unclear,” the spokesman said. “She reached UAE waters and she is in the port of Jebel Ali now. The vessel is safe and there are no injuries to crew.”

The spokesman said the attack had been reported to Singaporean authorities.

The ship is headed to Djibouti for inspection where the United Nations is overseeing humanitarian deliveries. Apparently these high on morphine Generals and mullahs say one thing to their own people for local consumption and act differently. Parsi party flying carpets and words.

I haven't seen a link stating that besides on Al Arabiya. Al Jazeera isn't showing such news. Are you sure of it?
