Iranian army stages war-game on western border [PIC]

Just a single armoured division? No air support? No troops? Good luck getting to Zahedan, let alone Tehran, with the difficult terrain and the thousands of ATGMs Iran has.

Semnan desert is completely flat, just look at the map between border of afghanistan and Iran. They can steam roll through the desert to tehran, are our m'60's gonna stop their armored division, confront their tank divisions? or ATGM teams on flat terrain? You saw how the U.S made quick work of saddam. Our army can only delay a loss against a modern enemy or a tie and what the hell is good about a tie. Their country remains in tact while our people die on our soil and our infrastructure bombed. We have to be able to go on the offensive and win wars, and make the enemy die for their country not our people die for ours.

a little frustrating to see.

looks like they are going with the "any tank is better then no tank" tactic. and its not just the tanks. the soldiers do not appear very well equipped either. These are frontline troops that have a high chance of seeing combat.

irans military budget in relation to its GDP is very low compared to its enemies and country's in the region,. this is while iran faces security challenges far tougher then them. The government has a very high spending budget, including constant access to large sums of hard currency.... where is all this money going? why is the Iranian government incapable of scraping together ~3-5 billion dollars a year from the national budget for military modernization? we basically have no airforce and the state of our armor is pitiful.

this is borderline betrayel of our frontline soldiers' lives. They seem very poorly equipped in all aspects. Their lives shouldn't be treated so cheaply by the state.

TEHRAN, Sep. 24 (MNA) – A new war-game, code named as Heidar Karrar, was staged by the Ground Force of the Iranian Army in the western area around Ghasreshirin county on Sunday.

Iranian Army Ground Force staged the third level of Heidar Karrar war-game in the area of Ghasreshirin in Kermanshah Province. The area is close to Parviz-Khan border port which links Iran and Iraq.
The third phase of the war-game was kicked off on Sunday with the force of the 35th Brigade of quick reaction force (QRF) of Iran’s Army Ground Force coming into the field.

The drill is intended to assess the readiness of QRF units and armored QRF and Special Forces QRF will join the show in stages.
The maneuver is scheduled to be run for a week in the specified region.

“Iranian armed forces are ready to defend and guard the borers of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” said Lieutenant Brigadier Farhad Aryanfar, the Commander of Iran’s Army Ground Force regional HQ.

What the F man, why hasnt Iran modernised its IRGC force yet atleast, isnt the IRGC supposed to be professionals with the best equipment compared to the regular army who are conscripts??? These pictures should be sent to that idiot Rouhani so he can get it in his small brain of his that Iran needs a bigger military budget or it wont modernize.

We have 400 billion gdp and our country is just scraping by militarily, its nothing but a disgrace. They can't even allocate a few billion to modernize. I don't know where the money is going including 100 billion in hard currency in foreign banks. It corruption my friend, too much stealing, and our brothers in the army who risk their lives end up suffering as a result.

The only survivable tank Iran has is the T-72S, its the backbone of the armored forces. All the rest is good to have, any tank crew is more survivable and destructive than ordinary infantry.

The army will make the small upgrades it has shown for M60, M47 etc.
It has completed the upgrading work on the T-55 family fleet. Now it will move to slowly upgrade the weakest tank, the M47 and then we can expect M60 to be upgraded. It will take years before Army's own workshops complete that upgrade work.
The target in terms of armor is to provide M47, M60 and Chieftain with sufficient armor to be safe against RPG class weapons. They will never get to a sufficiently high protection level such as the T-72S, they don't have sufficient upgrade potential.

They try to get things right directly, with the Karrar, new ones and upgrading the only tank that has the potential to come back to world class levels, the T-72S.
The Karrar and upgraded T-72S will become the real backbone of Irans armor force and all the rest will equip secondary units because sitting in a tank is always better than being a infantry on foot with G3. The rest still has good firepower, but any roughly modern ATGM or modern tank would be able to kill it with the first shot (of course they will try to avoid going against enemy top tanks and ATGM infested regions).

We have T-72s, attack helicopters and cities make great hiding spots for ATGM teams. Don't you worry, a single division isn't going to do anything.

The question remains how many Karrars Iran plans to field after it modernises all the T-72s to Karrar standard - that is, if it does plan to modernise all of them.

I've become very pessimistic about IR's modernisation efforts.

This is a serious defense ministry supported upgrade program, like that of the T-55s which are all upgraded by now.
It's army internal upgrades that are going on slow or not at all.

Our ground forces and air forces, are in serious decay and no one is doing anything about it frankly. Russia was in decay as well, now they destroyed a Ukrainian battalions about half a bridage in a few minutes in donbass just a few years ago with artillery after implementing modernization programs and allocating serious funds. We need the same, we need to modernize our armored vehicles before boasting about how scared western armies are agaisnt our BMP1's....... We need to implement future soldier programs for our regular and special forces, and standardize our military like a normal country. Our f***ing NOHED 65th brigade are using ak-47's. I've seen police in Canada better armed, better equipped than our special forces, what the hell. Look what has happened to syria, this is an example when you have a poorly trained, and poorly equipped military. If Syrian army were of any quality, they would've annihilated any armed uprising with ease and quickly. Do you think our soldiers are any better than theirs? They also had more modern equipment than us as well and they've lost 1000's of armored vehicles.

T-72's are not going to stop british tanks my friend and without robust air defence, we will not be able to effectively f*** them as they will find our brothers on the ground with thier airforce which his faaaaaaar superior than ours. I bet they can sweep through our whole eastern side with one division consisting of 200+ tanks, and armored vehicles followed with airsupport. I'm glad our country is so focused on air defence becasue airforce wins wars these days despite what idoits say. Just look at Russia in Syria. By halting their airforce we can slow down advances on the ground, but without effective and modern armored divisions and mechinized divisions, without long term training like NATO countries do, we will not be able to actually to initiate counter attacks that totally annihilate them. we train for like 8 weeks and then call our brothers soldiers, compare to i think 52 weeks of the brits. Additionally we don't have any capacity of invading other countries, lets be honest here. We simply can't with our armored forces. Our mentality is all about how to fight and die in our own country in some holy war, when it should be how to fight and win in other peoples countries. That is true deterrence.

Think from afghanistan if they send 4 armored division, one to sweep north to mashadd, one down south to zahedan, and 2 through semnan desert, where the mashad division links up them the other towards tehran, and zahedan makes way along the khalej fars. Can we be expected to defeat one of their divisions decievely with our armored forces, say in zahedan, and sweep up along the border quikcly and encircle their divisions in semnan and khorasan?. The vastness of Iran is of great value to us in strategic operations, where speed is killer, and can annilahate any invasion as they stretch their lines. Can we be expect to do this, and counter into afghanistan?

the majority of iranians defence budget goes into missiles and navy, iranian ground forces are underfinanced, nothing we didnt knew about...

Not all T-54/55/59/69s have undergone the T-72Z upgrade. Some keep poping up from time to time especially within the IRGC.

Navy is pretty poor too though, takes years to just build one frigate. and surface fleet is practically non existant, and while be destroyed in hours. submarine fleet is large but all small subs. Navy is really the center of what makes a country a region power or a global power. UK would'nt be a global power if it didn't have a large and good navy, would only be regional. Its not bad though.

Look bro,
I hate to enter politics but seems inevitable.

Before this government we started plenty of military projects, nuclear enrichments and also big space programs.

For example, Mowj-class naval ships were started, SLVs were developed, Bavar-373 was started, jet-engines were developing etc.

After this smile government, most of them were delayed, budgets were cut off especially in nuclear and space programs. Bavar is delayed, submarines are delayed, naval ships are delayed, budgets are cut off, Simorgh SLV was delayed for 4 years!!! only in launch stage. The unveiled projects were fortunate that had passed most of their developing processes otherwise smily guys in order to show their love/slavery to Mr Obama would delay them all. We are suffering from big smiles, don't want to say more, you can guess the rest.

.
And I bet you when half of Iran is bombed, Rouhani would still be smiling and say its all just a bad dream and nothing is wrong

Ok so now 1 armoured division becomes 4 with air support. So you're looking at a major British :-)lol:) invasion now... From Afghanistan.

We have to talk about realistic scenarios here.
