Iranian army stages war-game on western border [PIC]

TEHRAN, Sep. 24 (MNA) – A new war-game, code named as Heidar Karrar, was staged by the Ground Force of the Iranian Army in the western area around Ghasreshirin county on Sunday.

Iranian Army Ground Force staged the third level of Heidar Karrar war-game in the area of Ghasreshirin in Kermanshah Province. The area is close to Parviz-Khan border port which links Iran and Iraq.
The third phase of the war-game was kicked off on Sunday with the force of the 35th Brigade of quick reaction force (QRF) of Iran’s Army Ground Force coming into the field.

The drill is intended to assess the readiness of QRF units and armored QRF and Special Forces QRF will join the show in stages.
The maneuver is scheduled to be run for a week in the specified region.

“Iranian armed forces are ready to defend and guard the borers of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” said Lieutenant Brigadier Farhad Aryanfar, the Commander of Iran’s Army Ground Force regional HQ.

These are M-60s, hardly WW2 era. They do have some use still as lighter COIN tanks, though they should be upgraded.

Iran currently has a tank program called the Karrar which will be the MBT of the army.

Is Iran looking for T-90's ? or Chinese Option for Tanks ? how is the progress going for Karrar ? is it still in testing or production starts ? Iran needs to modernize its conventional Capabilities at much faster pace ..

Yes bro, you're right. those are very old tanks. most of our tanks are T-72s though.

We're going to mass-produce our own MBTs like karrar soon inshaallah.

Production has started at the Dorud Bani Hashem tank factory, but we don't know what the production rate is, or how many Karrars are planned to be acquired.

These Tanks are good for fighting insurgency but i wont recommend cause soldiers life is in risk in those tanks , with less protection ..

Than indigenous Tank make more sense , but adding T-90's will give Numerical Advantage to Iran in case of any Conflict, and from what i read and see, T-90 performed well in Syria , specially against ATGM ..

Iranians are making fast progress in Missiles tech , but Iran needs a modern airforce , NAVY and Army ..
add more modern fighters like Su35's or Su30MKI , for Navy more Subs with AIP and CM capabilities , and for surface fleet DDG's and heavy Frigates will be good start ..

We can't build too many i guess, maybe 30-40 a year at most.

On the contrary, the T-90 is bound to cost far more than the Karrar, not least because it is being exported rather than bought internally. Although Uralvagonzavod can make them faster, we can make more ultimately, with the same budget.

Amir jan, we are so f***ed. Atleast we should have those M-60's upgraded!!!! Is our Army broke or something? I hate when my brothers are sitting in tin death cans. We have announcements of new stuff but I bet they only produce a handful. While in reality most of our ground forces are ancient and its very upsetting how its possible to fall so far since the revolution, without missiles we would be the weakest country in the region for sure.

Depends on the occasion, which one is going to be used.\
IRGC has unknown number of Zolfiqar tanks, they were the first costumers of Karra too.

Maybe all of those T-72s are going to be upgraded to Karrar model.
