Iran’s Deputy Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami

Iran’s Deputy Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami says the Islamic Republic plans to manufacture new domestically-designed and advanced destroyers within the next few years.

Speaking at a ceremony in the northern Iranian port city of Noshahr on Tuesday, Hatami said the new Mowj-class (Wave-class) destroyers will be built in the next few years.

The Iranian deputy defense minister also praised Iranian military experts for the production of indigenous Damavand destroyer.

He added that Damavand is the second generation of Jamaran destroyer and enjoys more sophisticated equipment and weapons, can carry a larger number of crew members, and said that its maneuverability has improved compared to its predecessor.

Damavand destroyer, equipped with modern radar, electronic and reconnaissance systems, was delivered to the Iranian naval forces stationed in the northern port city of Anzali on March 9.

In this file photo, Iran’s domestically-designed and developed Damavand destroyer cruises in the waters of the Caspian Sea.

The Iranian Navy launched Jamaran, its first domestically-built destroyer, in the Persian Gulf waters in February 2010.

The 1,420-ton destroyer enjoys modern radar systems and other electronic warfare capabilities, has a helipad and can cruise at the speed of up to 30 knots (55 kilometers) an hour.

Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector over the past few years, and has achieved self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems. The Islamic Republic says its military might poses no threat to other countries, and its defense doctrine is based entirely on deterrence.

Iran has the capability to make larger and heavier destroyers. 1400 ton class seems to small to be a destroyer.

There is no such classification in Iranian terminology. They call naval ships "Nav shekan" which can mean both destroyer or frigate. Besides bro, the definition of destroyer is arbitrary anyway. Anyway, some Iranian sources translate nav shekan to frigate and some, like Press Tv translate it to destroyer.

On your other point, yes, Iran can develop much heavier ships but there is no such urgent need for them. Even these small ships like Jamaran, damavand, are quite heavily equipped for their size. Having said that, Iran is developing a warship for training purposes called Loghman with a mass of 5500 tons. Thus, quite soon, you will hear about Iranian destroyer projects with such mass 5000-7000 tons. Not long now. Iran has all it needs to build such ships, including, the engines!

Interesting,I hope pur nations collaborate in the area of ship building

Yeap, i read.

So then you just love replying for the sake of replying but have nothing to add?
I clearly, already explained the naming but like a troll, you pretend not to know why such they use destroyer even though as you put it, they do not have the mass to be seen as such. Also, there is no major problem here anyway as definition of destroyer is arbitrary. It's not like they referred to a ship as submarine etc.

Whatever dude...i was not even talking to you.

I don't discuss with Iranians on defense subjects.

Then why are you in the Iranian section commenting on Iranian defence matter especially when you're clueless what you're talking about? You're wasting thread space and making posts of no value as I had already answered that individuals question and your reply was nothing but a cheap attempt at trolling.

The last thing Iranians need is some turk trying to comment about Iranian military matters.
