Iran to be urged to export LNG to BD : no IPI pipeline extension

More of a slur for that matter. It is a highly offensive term in Saudi Arabia, and Al-Wahhab is one of the 99 names of The Almighty.

bro i know, but still they use it for evil purpose

one answer: the trade will may be barter system which USA allows to do so :D
what is the benefit for us ?

1. we still lack in energy resources, it will fill the gap.
2. if the trade on barter system, they will have to take our products, so demand of our products will increase which will lead more jobs for poor people :D

what is the benefit for Iran ?
in barter system, for return of their resources , Iran will get our cheap products with good quality, that will drop prices on particular products in Iran :D

Mate these things r easy to say than done.

U see its not easy to barter in oil trade as oil bills go sky rocketing. Plus barter don't mean that they r bound to buy from u as other countries like India n Pakistan will also be exporting similar products as BD, so u'll be facing competions even in barter system.

Believe me ur taking US sanctions too lightly here one sanctions could have drastic effect on ur export potentional as well as current export market.

So bro don't start counting ur chickens before they hatch...:)

really ? ! ! :cheesy: what is barter system then ? :woot:

as i told you, USA allows barter system :coffee:

We aren't living in 19th century now that ur giving bater a dictionary meaning here.

There is no 100% barter specially in Oil n gas u'll have to make part payment in cash n with USD its not possible for BD for now...:)

So what is it that Bangladesh will Barter to Iran. I mean what is so special Bangladesh produces that Iran needs desperately?
Or if I rephrase it why will Iran sell its gas to Bangladesh in taka. Taka has no value outside Bangladesh? Serious question.

BD traders will certainly pay in dollars to buy LNG when they open L/C in the commercial banks when doing trade with Iran. Iran will do the same when they buy whatever items BD has to offer.

BD's international trade volume is more than $55 billion per year. We pay in dollar and we sell in dollar.

As for the possibility of bypassing US sanctions the purchase will take time to materialize, and time solves many problems. Note also that talks are going also on Iran-supplied gas to Pakistan, China and India. Even if India does not agree the other two will go ahead with it. The same may happen with LNG buying by BD.

The question is why should USA bully a little BD whose people are struggling hard to survive in this harsh world? USA may not be seen very kindly by the international community for bullying BD.

Another point is why BD should buy oil and gas from Iran that it can buy from other nearby countries? Perhaps, BD wants to diversify its textile export market, Iran being one of its target markets. Iran has a big population.

@BDforever - Bhai ke saath aiseii kareiii gaaa ? :crap:

Kameeneiii tu neii meriii possible Duty pe taaang mariii haiii - Isss pe laraiii ho jaiii giii ! :pissed:

Because if do go ahead and import LNG, we're setting a "bad precedence" for other little countries to follow. Anyways, it's impossible for BD to go against the US. Just a short-lived trade embargo might bring us to our knees.

us dollar is not the only option now a days!pay back to the iran is not a big deal but antagonise us is realy a deal. if the usa mood off on this issue will effects our rmg export and thats a huge problem.
The movement u start importing gas from Iran ur very much part of the issue dear...:)

Besides how r u going to pay Iran back as USD is not available for payment to Iran n BD takka is not internationally tradable n international banks will face sanctions if they tried to help u out.

Besides u'll not get Shipment insurance from any international agency that literally translates to no shipment unless ur Govt. is willing to back it up from its own pocket.

Plus since u don't have a US waiver ur country will face US sanctions too.

the sanction of usa is a real horror because of their cousin bros EU will join the USA too for no matter what!we have a huge market in uk,germany ,holland and the other eu countries too.they are all us allied. iran is still not a good alternative for the rmg export

Bangladesh eyes Iranian natural gas via IPI pipeline

Joining the Iran-Pakistan-India natural gas pipeline project would give Bangladesh access to Iranian gas and resolve its energy crisis, Bangladeshi Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said Thursday.
Bangladesh has a natural gas deficit and at some point will have to import gas, Muhith told journalists after a meeting between Bangladeshi and Iranian officials in Dhaka.

"If the IPI gas pipeline is expanded up to India we can join it," said the minister. "When the pipeline is built from Iran to India, it will come to West Bengal of India, which is close to Bangladesh.

Mehdi Ghazanfari, Iran's minister for industry, mines and trade, who led the Iranian team to the meeting, said it would be "quite possible" for Iran to export gas to Bangladesh.

The possibilities of importing LNG from Iran was also discussed in the meeting. But that was discounted in the immediate term by Muhith.

"It is better to import natural gas through pipeline instead of importing LNG," Muhith said. Bangladesh will also consider LNG imports from Iran after building necessary import facilities in the next two years.

"But, since the IPI gas pipeline is coming to India, we are willing to join the pipeline," he said.

The proposed IPI pipeline would be 2,700 km (1,620 miles) long and would bring gas from Iran's South Pars fields in the Persian Gulf to Pakistan's major cities of Karachi and Multan and then to Delhi, India. Its estimated cost is $7 billion.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari launched the final construction phase of the Iran-Pakistan section pipeline on the Iran-Pakistan border in March.

India, which has been boycotting formal talks on the project since 2007 over security concerns, recently has shown interest to re-enter negotiations for the project, according to Indian media.

Bangladesh's gas supply is around 2.27 Bcf/d compared with demand of 2.7 Bcf/d-3.0 Bcf/d, according to the energy ministry.

The present demand of natural gas in Bd is 2.7 to 3.0 billion cft per day. However, by the time the IPI is complete in another three years, the demand may go up to 5.0 billion cft/day or more.

When gas is more available of gas, the demand may someday rise to even 10.0 billion cft/day after a few years. It all depends upon the price of gas and our people's purchasing power.

Another poin, this ignorant Muhith wants to join BD's own pipeline when IPI reaches Kolkata without knowing that it certainly is not the way of doing pipeline works.

There must be one separate pipeline for BD that will run parallel to other two lines until it crosses Pakistan. The two remaining parallel lines come up to Kolkata, and one single line runs towards the BD border.

A diameter of a pipe, say 32", is able to carry only a certain quantity of gas, oil or water. To carry additional quantity, either the diameter is enlarged from the onset of a project, or another pipe is laid parallel to and separately from the other pipes.

Muhith, being the finance minister of BD should know the basics of such a pipeline project. He is a shame in the presence of foreign dignitaries.

OK but doesn`t Bangladesh has rich Gas fields reserves ? If yes then why donot explore that instead of IPI which can be economically not feasible to Bangladesh
