Iran test flies Home-grown figter jet

Averroes,

Reverse engeneering obsolete technology is merely an achievement but credit is due when it comes to resouceablity of Iranian technicians.

F-5 Freedom Fighter and Ah-1 Cobra are both obsolete designs, Shehab is a based on North Korean technology and very little is 'indegenious'.
UET is brought from Pakistan and other weapons are copied from China.

I've no idea about their Research and Development budget, but with hard cash earned from the oil export they can certainly afford to spend ten times the figures that we spend.

Therefor I think that comparison between Iran and Pakistan is unjustified...

Yeah I guess you are correct about the reverse engineering and comparison regarding autoindustry, but still regarding the r.e., it's feat. that Pakistan hasn't shown or produced in the same extent seeing as we have had access to american technology.

. Iran has ordered JF-17s, which will be it's latest air defense, this is simply for ground defence, slowing down supply routes etc, to ensure ground invasion is impossible for the enemy.

I didn't saw any news saying that iran Ordered Thunders.:disappointed: Source please.

Go to page 2 of this thread, at the bottom I've pasted the source, global security.

brother, do not care about the unprofessional "iranian" forums handled by expatriates and exiles. The best asset Iran's defense has is its secrecy. when it comes to reverse engineering Iran is miles ahead of Pakistan. Remember they make their own Cobras, and they have their own state car which they export to other nations, made a million cars last years. They're proficient when it comes to manufacturing the basic stuff, but have nothing advanced. Iran has ordered JF-17s, which will be it's latest air defense, this is simply for ground defence, slowing down supply routes etc, to ensure ground invasion is impossible for the enemy.

Iran never ordered JF-17's as far as iran v/s pakistan is concerned iran is far behind in every technology against pakistan.................,

In August 2004 and again in October 2004 Iran carried out additional successful tests of the Shahab 3, following which Tehran announced that a new, advanced version of the missile had been developed with a range of 2,000 km. This was first displayed publicly in Tehran at the Holy Defence week traditional military parade in 2004 and featured a triconic or 'baby-bottle' warhead and smaller fins.

At the following year's parade in September 2005, two of the new 'baby-bottle' Shahab 3 missiles were displayed, although observers noticed certain differences between the two, leading Western analysts to conclude that Iran had developed two totally new variants of the Shahab 3 missile.

The first 'baby-bottle' variant is about the same length as the basic Shahab 3. Assessed to have a maximum range of 2,000 km with a warhead of less than 700 kg, this variant features smaller 'clipped' rear fins. This is assumed to take account of the change in the centre of gravity incurred by the new missile configuration. The second variant appears to be about a metre shorter, with larger fins and a range estimated at less than 1,500 km.

According to a Western diplomatic source, the triconic warhead variant actually indicates a totally new missile.

"This [warhead] cannot be mounted on a basic or extended-range Shahab 3 because of the major internal configuration changes, changes in the warhead frame, centre of gravity of the warhead and differences in aerodynamic characteristics,” the source noted. “The stability of the missile depends on the centre of pressure and centre of gravity - these have to be configured for stability. You can't just swap the warhead."

If Iran were to develop and manufacture a military nuclear capability, the advanced triconic Shahab 3 would likely be the preferred delivery vehicle for targets beyond its immediate borders.

Western sources claim that the Shahid Hammat Industrial Group, which is responsible for developing liquid propellants for Iran's missile programmes, is currently running a programme to develop a totally different missile with a range of 4,000-5,000 km (depending on payload).

Dubbed 'Project Koussar', this is based on the development of a reverse-engineered RD-216 engine, probably acquired from Russia in the late 1990s. The engine powered Russia's (now obsolete) SS-5 'Skean' (R-14/8K65) intermediate-range ballistic missiles and SL-8 Cosmos satellite launch vehicles. While the status of this programme remains unknown, but is believed to be at the preliminary design review stage, the source said that Iran is making progress in reverse engineering the RD-216 engine. It is, however, unclear as to what strategic benefits Tehran would acquire with this range of capability.

What good would this thunderbolt do against a US attack? It's for ground attack, and it won't ever get to take off.

Well it has everything to do with Iran now being an arms manufacturer, in the past most arms had to be bought from the US, UK, Israel, China and Russia, France and others but to a lesser degree....

It make not be the best out there, but it definately isn't the worst, whats more important, it will be affordable (without strings attached) to those nations that couldn't afford US arms, perhaps Lebanon might buy a few...They need them...

What is scaring the West is the fact that Iran has shown it is capabale of making bad things that fly and cause brown people to shake in fear...Once the hallmark of Zionofascist domination, is now falling to what they term, the wrong hands...

.
All they can do is reverse.............

Thats usually how it's done, most of the US military technology we have today came from reverse engineering Nazi technology...

US technology was reversed engineered by Russians, China and Israel...

Why would they reinvent the wheel...

That's an overstatement. Yes some subs and rockets in the 50's, 60's. Too much has happened after that to be attribute to Germany.
