KSA and Iran have been actively fighting for influence in Pakistan, but things seem to be going bad for both, as Pakistani nationalism is on the rise. Sectarianism is on its death throes, as people are increasingly suspicious of both Iran and Saudi Arabian funding and influence within the country.

Economically, Pakistan is going to be eclipse both Iran and KSA within the coming decades; If Iran and KSA don't halt their proxy war within Pakistan, it will not end well for either.

Plz, no matter how much patriotism or nationalism you put in the the shia's. Whenever the iran problem or iran matter comes up, shia's act as Iran is their real country and Pakistan is no where founded in their upbring or giving them such a good life to live with so many opportunities. Pakistani Shia here. I'm a free thinker, a "secular nationalist" you could say. Think Saudi Arabia is a reasonable ally, but Deobandi/Salafi ideology is toxic. Think Iran is an unreliable ally, but Shia ideology isn't toxic like Deobandi/Salafi. Pakistan didn't choose sides in the Yemen conflict, but Iran hasn't been reliable towards Pakistan.

The hate some posters have for Pakistani Shias here is deplorable. While there are some Pakistani Shias who have some sympathies for Iran on a religious level, they don't really have any real political associations with them.

Dude, Problem is not even Shia, Sunni or anything. Problem is that Iran wants to achieve it persian glory that it lost 1500 during second caliph time. Iranian see it as Arab invaders destroyed their glorious persian empire. 1500 years old animosity and Iranian want revenge. Past 300 years Persian mullah distorted Shia'ism in way to hate our first 3 Calph. Original Shia's never disrespected our caliph (r.a) . Grave of the killer (Abu Lulu) our second caliph is a shrine for Persian. Abu lulu wasn't even muslim, he was a fire worshiper. You said Shia ideology isn't toxic then what about your dangerous processions every year during moharam ? What about Rawalpindi incident and many other incidents where your religious processions burned Sunni mosques and madrissas ? What about huge expenses which your dozens processions consume in the name of security every year?

Have these processions personally harmed anyone the way militants kill innocents in terrorist attacks? No.

Shia violence on Sunni violence is far far less than the vice versa, it's a fact.

The high number of security forces are needed because of the large threat from terrorists killing dozens of people in a single attack.
