Iran repels US U2 reconnaissance plane

Search for any airbase if it has an expeditionary squadron from Beale AFB. Most likely (just my guess) it's from Kandahar. The RQ-170 is there. So does that means the U-2 is there. The RQ has been spotted where the TR-1 home base (beale).

How did Iran know it was a U-2 and not a TR-1?

Come on , there is some technical difference between the two plane , but honestly do you think it will change the nature of the news .

Absolutely. It shows if Iran is telling the truth or not. So how does Iran know it was a U-2 and not a TR-1?

TR-1 ,ER-2 ,U2R, U2S are all derivatives of U2, even if a pilot fly next to any of them, he will recall it U2.

well maybe Iran radars can differentiate the length or wingspan of those plane .

U2 cannot take off from an AC carrier.
Are you sure? In 1963, the CIA started project Whale Tale to develop carrier-based U-2Gs to overcome range limitations. During development of the capability, CIA pilots took off and landed U-2Gs on the aircraft carrier USS Ranger and other ships.

USA stopped those programs in 70 , U2 is not suited for aircraft carriers in fact flying U2 is one of the must straining job in US Air-force , that plan seems have a stall speed of just 12 miles lower than its maximum speed and because of the shape of it's wing when it want to land a very powerful Ground effect fight with pilot and stop the plane from doing that .
its how they land that plan and as you see it's not suitable for aircraft carriers
The U-2 is very sensitive to crosswinds which, together with its tendency to float over the runway, makes the aircraft notoriously difficult to land. As it approaches the runway, the cushion of air provided by the high-lift wings in ground effect is so pronounced that the U-2 will not land unless the wing is fully stalled. A landing U-2 is accompanied on the ground by a chase car and an assisting U-2 pilot calling off the angles and declining aircraft height as the aircraft descends. Cars used have been Ford Mustang SSP, Chevrolet Camaro B4C, Pontiac GTO, Dodge Charger Police Package, Pontiac G8 GT, and Chevrolet Camaro SS.[13]

Instead of the typical tricycle landing gear, the U-2 uses a bicycle configuration with a forward set of main wheels located just behind the cockpit, and a rear set of main wheels located behind the engine. The rear wheels are coupled to the rudder to provide steering during taxiing. To maintain balance while taxiing, two auxiliary wheels, called "pogos" are added for takeoff. These fit into sockets underneath each wing at about mid-span, and fall off during takeoff. To protect the wings during landing, each wingtip has a titanium skid. After the U-2 comes to a halt, the ground crew re-installs the pogos one wing at a time, then the aircraft taxis to parking.

and also I don't think any aircraft carrier captain would like what those titanium wing tips can do to his ship

I doubt it was an U2 recon plane. It's too old, depsite all the decades of electronic upgrades, it's air frame is really outdated.

U2 flying from pakistan again....reminder of old days

Was U2 only flying in pakistan airspace or even took from pakistan, any idea ?

No, it operates from Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan.

Why would Pakistan give them access from Pakistan.

We kicked the US out of Shamsi Air Base more than a year ago, remember ?

The Iranian member has clarified that the article has made a mistake.

Sir, with due respect, the Radar screens show aircrafts as a BLIP , not the outline of an aircraft.:D

come on we have a super duper top Secret radar that can even count the number of hair on the head of the pilot.

by the way I guess by calculating the amount of the signature reflected by the target and the altitude it fly and it's speed you can have some guess on what sort of Airplane it is after all it's not common to see a plane that fly at 20km of altitude and fly at the speed 500 miles specially this plane have a narrow range of headroom between stall speed and maximum speed at high altitudes (something less than 20km in older model and not to much more in newer generations)
