Iran 'ready to connect Gwadar to Chabahar port'

Iran must nationalise Chahbahar, kick out Indian networks and then we can start negotiations. With Indians running Chahbahar, there's little benefit for Pakistan.
India has Chabahar on lease and only 2 berths are on lease. From those two berth India is doing trade with Afghanistan sends in wheat shipments and takes out iron ore from Hajigak mines. The whole concept of Chabahar was to support Indian steel industry.

Bhai you are missing the point, Sri Lanka and India are not brotherly nations, Sri Lanka has no stake in India to fund and secretly support any rival factions there, Iran does have it in Pakistan , they exploit the Shia's of Pakistan to go fight in their wars in Syria . Your comparisons are wrong , As i say Trade and Friendly nation is fine but no until they stab us in the back , threat us for cross border attacks , harbor our enemy ..

Srilanka have huge Tamil population and Tamil Nadu is a state in southern india. Similar is the case with Nepali gurkhas.

Again, we cannot afford to isolate ourselves from our neighbors because of india. We have to work our way to erase india out of those countries.

Other than load balancing not sure what this connection with Chahabar can offer?

Gawadar and Chahbahar are competitors ........ not sister ports. They did agreement in 2016 with india and afghanistan, back then Pakistan was haram, now all of sudden Pakistan is halal?

Why the hell Pakistan would allow iranian FM to enter its GHQ?

In my assessment IP gas pipeline should be connected to Gwadar as a start. Expanded in the future to the rest of Pakistan if conditions permit. If we want to set up export oriented manufacturing centers in Gwadar, cheap NG from the Pars field via a pipeline would be a huge benefit. Its the largest gas field in the world split between Iran and Qatar. LNG has more losses than a pipeline.

Gwadar future industry can relay on solar, wind, imported NG/coal, and electrical interconnection to the rest of Pakistan.

This will be extremely bad for Pakistan. .. giving access to Iran (a known terror state) will destroy the future of Gwadar.

Let's just keep these snakes away!

sure with the Indians running it why not lol

Now that Irani Mullas see the writing on the wall in the shape of US military on one side and their long time ally India showing them their filthy arse on the other, they are running like headless chicken trying to get our support.

All these years these scums provided open unrestricted access to India to train and send terrorists in to Pakistan and Iran itself supporting ethnic terrorism by training and sponsoring a particular sect for target killings in Pakistan.

Although I'll hate to see terrorist Americans close to our borders in yet another neighboring country but I won't shed any tears when they bomb some sense in to these terrorist iranis.

I have been saying it for years to Iranian members on the forum, that you'll have no where to run but Pakistan when the bigger evil starts bombing you as you have been creating unrest in almost every single Islamic country.

I would also warn GOP to not fall for islamic bhai chara or humanitarian reasons for Iranians to to take refuge in Pakistan. There are thousands of Indian trained terrorists who would cross in to Pakistan in the guise of refugees and create problems for us directly and also by attacking US forces and making it look like Pakistan is providing safe heavens to terrorists who are attacking US forces from Pakistan, thus creating a direct conflict between US and Pakistan.

Let the Irani refugees use Cha bahar port and go to India, who has been benefiting from Iran for the last many decades. Letting Irani refugees come to Baluchistan will be a grave mistake and will result is very serious issues for Pakistan.

Actions speak louder than words.

The charm offensives from Javad Zarif needs to be followed by concrete steps on the ground so Pakistan-Iran relations can move in a positive direction. Thus far I haven't seen anything that indicates any concrete steps are being taken. This is not a surprise as Javad Zarif does not have any control over the IRGC or Iran's intelligence apparatus. For Pakistan, it means Iran's intelligence apparatus will continue to recruit Uzair Balochs and India will continue to push Kulbhushan Jadhavs to threaten our security.

such suggestion never floats from no where, most probably chinese and russian worked and building new independent trade network in the region. india is only pakistani problem, not for iran, afghan, saudi, uae, chinese or russians... to dislodge india from chahbar need to have very strong case. or pakistan must have double the trade with iran compare to india.

But for what ??……… No thank you iran …… First clean iran and chabhar from RAW and anti Pakistan elements ..
Chabhar is not any sister port ……. Chabahr and indian Navy there threat to Pakistan and allowing iran anywhere near Gwadar will be suicidal ..
So please keep the distance at any cost..

TEHRAN: Iran says it is ready to connect Pakistan’s Gwadar port with Chabahar port to promote trade and commerce in the region.

The proposal was put forward by Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, who met Pakistan’s civil-military leadership in Islamabad on Friday, reported Press TV.

“I’ve come here with a proposal for the government of Pakistan for connection between Chabahar and Gwadar… We believe that Chabahar and Gwadar can complement each other,” Zarif was quoted as saying.

“We can connect Chabahar and Gwadar, and then through that connect Gwadar to our entire railroad system, from Iran to the North Corridor, through Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, and also through Azerbaijan, Russia, and through Turkey.”

Iran, India and Afghanistan signed a trilateral transit agreement in Tehran in May 2016, which allows the three countries to open new routes of connection by converting Chabahar port into a transit hub.

The port in Chabahar, only about 100 kilometres from the Pakistan border and located on the Indian Ocean, is Iran’s largest outside the Gulf.

It is also the only Iranian port with exemptions from economic sanctions re-imposed by the United States in 2018.
Not going to happen as US sanctions exemption for Chabahar are only for trade with Afghanistan.
Any new party involvement will attract sanctions as terms clearly specify.

Secondly Pakistan has adhered to US sanction on Iran.
Pak Iran trade has fallen massively in this financial year:

Pakistan does not import a single barrel of oil from Iran & Pakistani banks are so worried about US sanction they have not even set up a payments channel with Iran.

Last but not the least, Iran has said the same thing about joining Gwadar and Chabahar every year since 2015, so it's just mere diplomatic niceties from them:

I appreciate your sensible comments. Leaving a few comments, many of the comments are horrible. I agree that to dislodge India from Chahbar, Pakistan must have double the trade. It is very easy to say this.
Pakistan is neck deep debts. It has to pay IMF loans, Chinese loans and the deffered payment by Saudi. The questions arises can Pakistan double the trade in such a situation. What has Pakistan got to offer to Iran.
