TEHRAN, April 29 (MNA) - Iran has found a new gas field in the southern province of Khuzestan which is estimated to contain reserves as much as the South Pars gas field.

The South Pars gas field is shared by Iran and Qatar. The Iranian share, which is divided into 29 phases, has about 14 trillion cubic meters of gas, or about eight percent of the world's reserves.

Initial studies by the National Iranian Oil Co. (NIOC) show that the field contains reserves as much as the South Pars. However, the report has not yet been officially confirmed by the Oil Ministry.

Seyyed Mahmoud Mohaddes, the NIOC exploration director, told the Mehr News Agency that that new gas field has been found at one of the greatest oil fields in Khuzestan province.

Mohaddes said a 5000-meter well will be drilled in the field to find more information about the condition of the field and the amount of its natural gas reserves.
