Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah yesterday congratulated Hassan Rowhani on his election as the new president of Iran, while welcoming the new leader’s gesture to improve bilateral ties.
“We are glad to congratulate you in the name of the people and government of Saudi Arabia ... wishing greater progress and prosperity for the people of the brotherly Islamic Republic of Iran,” the king told Rowhani in a message carried by the SPA.
King Abdullah commended Rowhani’s desire to strengthen cooperation and improve relations with Saudi Arabia as expressed in his statements. Crown Prince Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, also sent a similar congratulatory cable to Rowhani.
The leaders of other GCC countries such as UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and Oman have also congratulated the new Iranian president.

“We look forward to working together for the good of this region and the Emirati and Iranian peoples,” the UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan wrote in a telegram to Rowhani, state news agency WAM reported.
“We are keen to forge relations based on cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he added.
The GCC countries have been wary of their neighbor, mainly over its nuclear ambitions.
Meanwhile, the 56-member Organization of Islamic Cooperation also congratulated the new Iranian president and wished him every success in administering the country’s affairs.
“Iran is one of OIC’s founding members and an active member of the organization,” said Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, OIC secretary-general.

I hope it is. But yes, those messages where indeed send. It is just normal diplomacy. After all Iran has a embassy in Riyadh and a consulate in Jeddah.

Likewise KSA has a embassy in Tehran.

As it is now the relations will not change much. I highly doubt that. Nor do I care. As long as the Mullah's stop their meddling in our beautiful Arab world.

Maybe that Rowhani guy will be better. Apparently there is a past history with KSA.

Mashhad was founded by Arabs. Likewise Qom. Don't plan to visit Iran. Don't think they like Arabs and not sure they would allow a Saudi citizen to visit them. I would probably be spied on and accused of being an "Wahhabi" (invented word for the Hanbali fiqh)! Maybe I could use the fact that I am a Hashemite. That might help a little, LOL. But only among the clerics and conservative ones. Doubt that others would care!

Maybe only the Arab areas of Iran if I had to go judging from the actions of the Iranian members here.

No, I guess that the normal/ordinary Iranian lot are quite friendly. Maybe even towards Arabs too. Would have to discover it myself though. Just like our normal lot is friendly to must if not all from the beginning.

Iran's relation with KSA was quite good under Hashemi administration,to an extent that two countries signed a security agreement and also had good economic and political relations.So I don't think it's impossible to go back there.Though there is some bitterness over Syria and other issues, but we don't have to be enemies, if not close friends.

we don't have to be enemies but in reality our interests clash! so , it's natural to be rivals. We have nothing in common with Wahhabi regime, they are liars, pretend to be moderate, but secretly fund terrorist all over the Muslim world to divert attention from their own corrupt regime. They don't consider Shias as equal human beings, they will accept us as long us we live under their rules, but as soon as we rise up they are willing to fund extremists to kill us all! How can we be friends with people like this, they are so irrational and see everything in terms of Sunni Vs. Shia... Their Sheikhs regularly give fatwas making it legal and halal to kill as many Shias as possible! They rejected the governments in Syria and Iraq, solely based on the fact that they are Shias!! While supporting a dictator in Bahrain...How can we trust them? Unless, a true moderate comes into power in Saudi Arabia, we can't trust them. Just read the comments on this forum, they are always insulting us for being Shias.... even though most Iranians don't even care about Shias or Sunni rivalry, it's really irritating to read these Wahhabis constantly insult our religion and act like they own the whole Muslim world.

You pretty much summed up the situation . Some time it felt centuries old Arab VS Persia rivalry is not end yet. Persian is not only Iran, Its central asia and part of Afhanistan , even Pakistani sub cultures are part of Persia. If we come to India, the Indian historians see Arab as destroyer of Indian fabric of culture.
