If Iran wanted to be a spoiler, it could have done that when Taliban were taking over or were about to take over, but it didn't.

Why now? What's the catch?

No, I'm not looking for some diplomatic morality infused comment. I am talking about geo political interests/leverage of Iran which she wants to extract from somebody by making a fuss out of it NOW? Who is that somebody? US? Europeans? or anyone else? And what exactly is that interest/leverage?

One thing that makes me cringe when I read this forum is how other Muslim countries are relentlessly attacked. Arabs, Iranians, Turks, no matter which country visitors are from there's always some Pakistanis who will abuse them, even going to the extreme of suggesting violence. Anyone who visits will get the impression that all Pakistanis hate them, which is, of course, not true. It's only a handful of people with some grudge against a particular country.

No wonder the Muslim world is totally divided and in tatters, attacked from all sides, while the anti-Islamic forces are united.

It's interesting that Afghanistan has the world's attention for a variety of reasons, including geopolitics, geography, land issues, the Taliban, governance, the decline of the US and previous empires, China's role, NATO's involvement (which was much of Europe). What's often overlooked is that of Afghanistan's ethnicities and their huge role on how the country is shaped.

Pakistan's Pros: The Taliban are Pashtuns (Iranic-Israeli Tribe), closely related to Pakistan which has more Pashtuns than Afghanistan's entire population and a Pashtun PM, as well as Afghan refugees.

Turkey's Pros: The Northern area is Turkic. When Turkey invaded along with NATO, the odds that that they were on the side of the Northern Turkic people helped benefit them against the heavily Pashtun Taliban. Erdogan even called for the heavily-Pashtun Taliban to "end the occupation" of Afghanistan, while ignoring the occupation that was by NATO and Turkey's role in the airport.

Iran's Pros: Hazara Shias and Tajik Persians (Panjshir mainly). Panjshir held out against the Soviets, but has now lost to the Taliban. Iran is now blaming Iran on aiding the Taliban's victory. Iran now seems to be taking the nationalist Pakistani hating-Afghan's role (who all fled the country).

Today Pakistans military and economy far surpasses Irans. Taliban is in complete control in Afghanistan and its war machine is equipped to the teeth. IRGC would not stand a chance. Irans AF is just as obsolete as the ANA was before its collapse. Iran army is mostly untrained, unequiped conscripts.

Not just that but the PAF would destroy most of IRGC forces in a matter of days. That along with a joint IEA/Pakistan army onslaught in its western sector would lay doom to major cities such as Mashad and Chabar... which are barely a few miles from Pak/Afghan border...

Only the IRGC is well equipped, but it remains to be seen how they fight against the talibs nor any professional modern army. All those shiny ballistic/cruise missiles... what use would they be against a highly mobile infantry army???? When your enemy is so quick and taking ground their is very little use an airforce/missile strike can do, esp with so many independant battle units equipped with special force units.

Iran today is dealing with an aligned Pakistan/IEA along with its traditional enemies , israel/US/GCC/Turks/Azeries. How does Iran rationalize all this and expect to take on so many enemies all at once???? do the ayatollahs want to commit suicide?

Simmer down buddy he just made 1 statement and Panjshir is already taken. Let them blow off hot air the ground reality isn't changing due to what they say and it will be in Pakistan's benefit to keep the entire western border quiet.

They didn't expect the lightening taliban campaign that captured the whole country within days instead of months that was estimated by everyone. They were waiting for the US to withdraw and then they would have slithered into western Afghanistan. ANA folded even before the US withdrew and Taliban went after border areas first instead of major cities. They blocked any aid from north or western neighbors to play the spoiler. Iran is now acting indignant as their plans for Afghanistan went up in smoke.
