Iran Could Directly Combat Terrorists inside Pakistan: Senior Commander

I dont like/support any (politician/leader) side here....but I place greater blame on Saddam for instigating this and also getting bankrolled by Saudis to perpetuate it past its initial impetus (and clear non-return on investment)....and then starting the civilian targeting on top of it (which Iran then retaliated but much more limited overall given their capability at that time).

And I definitely would not call for either to be removed by outside power like US (this comes from a person who supported it pretty strongly when he was a younger more oblivious lad). Military intervention for statecraft brings terrible long term costs for all involved (esp longer you do the "hearts and minds" kind of thing just to feed military industrial complex and own ego as world police). If you have clear intel on imminent threat...that is another thing....but deploying your deep state to manufacture it for sake of invasion of another sovereign entity is treasonous imo (because you essentially have lied to your own people for the intent and justification to send their best sons to die for their country)

You need to have clear defined and standardised objectives (applicable worldwide with as low bias and qualitative intel as possible) and good exit plan (if you commit to ground) no matter how powerful/wise you may think you are.....or not do it at all (which is best option for me).

US did neither....and worse, was already engaged in another (long logistics) theatre at same time. It is hubris in the end....and hubris creates only unneeded suffering. The results speak for themselves.

But the argument (besides the military industrial complex) has as its plinth the control of Muslims and oil. Both of which no red-blooded US citizen would have argued against.

I don't trust (or even like very much) Americans.

But that is because I'm not American.

Cheers, Doc

That is not somehow an American trait. Every dominant world power has its way going about both of these....and if it was pre-eminent one, would likely be doing the exact same thing to near a T. In the end its for the countries with Muslims and oil to plan, hedge and overall do better with the multi-polar world shaping up right now....rather than have too much sugar daddy complex.

Let's remember the US itself has huge energy reserves so the oil "control" reasoning only goes so far.....though Saddam threatening the Saudis in the early 90s (after invading Kuwait) probably had a commensurate response from the US and its allies (with their energy security playing a big factor for sure). With the 2nd gulf war, I just don't see the oil flow control working as good....the US didn't really gain much on it esp given what it spent.

No country can go to or sustain a war without its people behind it.

Not even a superpower.

We say that Russia is an authoritarian regime.

But the majority of Russians love Putin.

And whenever Putin has gone to war, he has had Russia behind him.

The Pulwama attack has been timed brilliantly.

You have a nation seething with anger, but not behind the man who would lead them to war.

Cheers, Doc

@Nilgiri

Specific to the topic of the thread, what people may have missed out is the sudden 'discovery' by Taliban that their representatives can not fly to Islamabad as they remain on no fly list of US. This was in the immediate aftermath of the strike in Iran and accusation by the Iranians of Pakistan's ISI supporting anti-Iran elements.

Will go out on a limb here. This should clearly be read in conjunction with the frequent media reports of the Taliban receiving support from Iran and Russia. That the Taliban have avoided coming to Pakistan, should be a clear indication of who is calling the shots with them today.

I am simply amazed at the Pakistanis here, who fail to realize the impact of the recent events. Effectively, they have closed off their lines of communications - having a hostile Iran (not helped by MBS' statements yesterday), Afghanistan and India, all riled up simultaneously and Taliban also staying away from Pakistan.

I am yet to find an precedent wherein the members cheer the fervent pace at which their country is encircling itself with hostile neighbours with bombastic statements as evident here.
That's a one way to put it but there is very delicate line and you know it. I wish to ask why there is ban on some weapons to be used from ISI/RAW combined while we just saw Pakistani war on terror and their use of those said weapon so please ask high ups if you didn't already.

Iran Could Directly Combat Terrorists inside Pakistan: Senior Commander

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri said Iran could directly step in to crush Pakistani-based terrorist groups under the UN Charter.

February, 18, 2019

Speaking to reporters in the city of Qom on Monday, the top Iranian general said Tehran has called on Pakistani military and political officials to take serious action in the fight against terrorist groups near the common border with Iranو in the wake of a recent terrorist attack that killed 27 IRGC personnel in southeast Iran.

The Pakistani authorities have been urged to take responsibility for the fight against terrorist groups “or allow our forces to enter (Pakistan) and fight off these terrorist groups,” he added.

A bus carrying IRGC personnel was traveling between the cities of Zahedan and Khash, in Sistan and Balouchestan on February 13, when it was targeted in a suicide car bomb attack. Twenty-seven IRGC members were killed and 13 others injured in the attack, claimed by the so-called Jaish ul-Adl terrorist group based in Pakistan.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Major General Baqeri reiterated the need for Islamabad to ensure stability and security near the border with Iran, adding, “If the centers used for training, accommodating, preparing and lodging terrorist groups in Pakistan would intend to continue their activities for any reason, it would be the Islamic Republic’s natural and international right under the United Nations Charter to take direct action against those centers and take revenge if necessary.”

The top commander also noted that Iran has provided intelligence for Pakistan, whose army has reportedly launched an operation since Sunday in the Pakistani Balochistan region against the terrorist groups.

He stressed that Iran will keep negotiations with Pakistan and pressuring it to make sure that the terrorist groups will be rooted out from the southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan.

This man is an absolute idiot, how did he get so high up on the military chain of command?

Iranians deserve better leaders than these sectarian bigots. They are hurting Iranian interests.

In any confrontation between Pakistan and Iran, Iran will always be at a disadvantage.

KSA, US, UAE, and a whole myriad of states are itching to isolate Iran.

Khamanei should step in and silence these guys from making wild statements.

Iran, Afg, India........

Pakistan got encircled......

Iran is a regional power who have been slapping around USA for decades. I m sure they will do everything that's necessary to protect themselves from terrorists attack.

You list is why they will never get a grip on reality. Life isnt getting better, it’s getting worse as the years go on for pakistanis. As you pointed their literacy rate is decreasing, their HDI is that of failed states, their per capita income is less than Bangladesh’s. When faced with this insurmountable reality they’ve decided to retreat into a fantasy world where these problems dont exist, where they aren’t hated by the wider world, where their economy snd diplomstic clout exists.

Cheerleading you secret allies lowly bhangi? while completely forgetting that you house more poor then any other country in the world, have more.poverty then Pakistan, where you 60% population can't afford toilets and suffering from 45 year highest unemployment rate despite so called growth. Lol.

.
Pakistan should welcome Iranian military action against terrorists within Pakistan territory. Why would Pakistan refuse such an offer? It creates further distrust that they have something to hide when they refuse to cooperate with Iran on this matter.

It is not just a matter of accommodating a neighbor but rather a major sovereignty issue to allow boots of another country to operate within one's boundary. Besides, how would the Iranian side differentiate a militant from a regular armed joe?

What Iran needs to do is understand the challenges Pakistan faces on its border with India and Afghanistan and therefore it should protect it's own side of the border and take action against terrorists entering Iran from Pakistan, if any. And while doing all that, Iran must also ensure that it's soil is NO LONGER used for anti-Pakistan activities by RAW, as Iranian soil has been extensively used by RAW for anti-Pakistan activities which is evident from the network that was dismantled by the arrest of Kulbhushan Jadhav.

.
The Iranians always get up in arms when there’s an attack there, and then calm down soon after. At the end of the day, the Iranians know that they’ll be far worse off if Pakistan actually chose to actively support the insurgency in Iran, backed by Saudi billions and other ‘nations with common interests in a weakened Iran’.

The game is being played out between your neighbour to the West and the allies you have, who bankroll your military program for the precise reason too. It is something that I have indicated quite often here. And the Pakistanis are getting played, albeit willingly, as they have a view that they can get away doing this fine balancing act as long as they can direct the issue of Baluchistan onto India.

That the then PM Mr Manmohan Singh, in his foolishness to acquire peace, allowed the reference in 2009 to creep in the Joint Statement at Sharm el-Sheikh issued along with the then Pakistani PM Mr Yousaf Raza Gilani, allowed Pakistan the respite that it needed. Thereby allowing Pakistan to play the game adeptly.

Further stupidity, and I call it as such, was undertaken by PM Mr Modi in 2015, when he espoused cause of Baluchistan. One never should take credit for something that they are not doing in the first case (and I see few Indian members here make deliberately false claims regarding Baluchistan and Kashmir) and should never make a threat that one is not willing to carry out in the latter case.

And now we can see what benefits accrued to Pakistan.

With respect to the cancellation of the Taliban travel to Pakistan, please keep in mind that neither Pakistan nor the US officially confirmed the meetings in Pakistan. There are a variety of theories on why: Afghan Government’s official protest to the UN in conjunction with the Pakistani FATF review being one of them.

Has that, the 'FATF Review', really been a concern for Pakistan? With MBS declaring a potential US $20 Billion investment plan, along with a comprehensive bailout plan already in place with UAE as a partner, I would be a sceptic.

On a lighter note, some purported Pakistani twitter member did sardonically(?) point out - that Pakistan can not be isolated as it has borrowed money from everyone.

Cynicism of the statement notwithstanding, it does indicate that there are larger interests at play that have ensured that Pakistan, insofar the economy is concerned, is rather well 'insulated' for the present, as long as the establishment remains amiable to certain positions.

On the other hand, Taliban can be considered a bit apprehensive of a situation wherein it loses favour with Iranians, as some elements of US will still be in Afghanistan, claims of victory notwithstanding, and even an irate India will be a pain when combined with Afghans-Iran-Russia (by default with Iran on this one), something that they would be loathe to repeat.

yeah really, you compering Pakistan to Israel, I don't know whether to laugh or cry

You should cry Afghani bcoz Pakistan have downed Israeli jets in the past with inferior Arab equipments provided by soviets and our pilots hold national awards of Syria and Iraq, maybe Egypt's as well, who are you? Stick to Marg bar BS.

As you can see from the map and read in your link, it was both ways. Iran likewise ordered similar attacks against civilian cities in Iraq, where's your blame against Khomeini and his son.

That shit could have ended in 1982 instead if not for that faggot khomeini who some people here worship whilst living in Europe.

Believe me these taboo cultured pagan people could be careless, he have to arse lick Mullah terrorists bcoz they are right now barking against Pakistan, if You bring today pro Saddam Iraqi Govt who start barking against Pakistan, these Islam hating pagans will announce Saddam their new God within a second.

Have the Iranian authorities got nuts?!?! Haven't they seen what happens by antagonizing Pak???? They want to destabilize Pak!!! They need to understand a new Han is in the town!!! If he feels betrayed and threatened by Iran, it means the end of her current regime!!!

Opposite of it , manpads are mutually assured ban but Indian fear if they use Choppers then new weapons will flocking in.

One factor is altitude and morality of it , i wish to know the reasoning and not my assumptions.

Pakistan has two competing parallel powers, the Pakistan Government and the Pakistan Military. I have seen that the government wants to improve relations, increase business investment, save the economy from bankruptcy, reduce all unnecessary spending etc. I think this is the best government Pakistan have had in decades.

The government is trying to save every rupee even to the extent of auctioning off cars and buffalos owned by the government. The next logical step would be to reduce the military budget. That is an unproductive spending which every government will eye to reduce this budget.

However, the Military also knows this and doesn't want to cut down their salaries or their size. They know that if their budget is cut, then they will become a smaller power and will likely come under the government. They can't allow that to happen. One way to do this is to make everyone realize the need for a strong military.

They know that allowing such a terrorist attack to happen will lead to all Indians and Iranians screaming for a retaliation. And, in such a situation, the Pakistani government cannot reduce the military budget, but will most likely instead increase it. This is not a situation exclusive to Pakistan, but such things have happened many many times in history whenever the military and the government are competing powers.

I think this is the main reason why this attack happened.

The Pakistani military is not like any other military where it is controlled by the elected government, instead, this military is controlled by a set of an elite group of people. These people have involved in a lot of crime and corruption, but they are untouchable because they are protected by the military. Most of them are anyway high ranking military officials.

The government of Pakistan is the secondary power which they are allowing to exist as a face of the country because they know the country will fall apart if there is no such facade like how it happened in almost all countries controlled by the military. The government is given near full freedom to do whatever they want EXCEPT interfering the activities of the military or its controlling elite.

Which country's military runs businesses and corporations? Pakistan's military does so! They are into every kindof business in Pakistan. Infact, just like how Tata and Reliance are the biggest business empires of India, the Pakistan Army is the biggest business empire of Pakistan.

The military owns so many businesses because they want to decrease the dependence on the funding from the government. However, they are still critically dependent on the government's money, so they cannot allow the government to reduce that budget.

The best definition of Pakistan army which people can understand is - Imagine if a conglomerate corporation of your country was the Army and the civilian government was paying money to them for "security". But, then a new government came and wants to reduce its budget because the country is in an economic crisis.

So, just causing a terrorist attack in India and Iran will cause people of both countries to rally up anger towards the Pakistani government. This will scare the government and the people. This will make it a very very unpopular move for the government to even talk against the military. The civilians will infact bring down the government if they talk the truth or try to reduce the military budget.

This is how the military wins and stays in power. This is the reason why whenever the government of Pakistan reaches a near-peace-treaty with India, the military get scared and causes a terrorist attack to make the treaty fall apart.
