Stop kidding yourself. Bengali is not spoken by the majority in any NE state except Tripura and it is not a lingua franca. None of the NE states except the bordering districts in Assam and Tripura share any cultural similarities with you guys in BD. As for Assamese being similar to Bengali, well it's similar because both the languages have common origin. Even Oriya is also quite similar for the same reason. Does it mean anything? NO. And Sylheti is quite different from the standard Assamese, it's only similar to a western dialect of Assamese Kamrupi. Kamrupi is as much different from standard Assamese as Sylheti is from standard Bengali. And don't lie, if you have just "heard" Assamese you won't understand it 100%. I have Bengali friends from Assam as well as from WB all my life, I know better.
Is there any plan to change the script to Hindi devnagari, or the script will remain the same?
Would you change your script to Arabic?
Edit: Seriously, when I think about this, do you even realize how effing stupid you sound in that question?
India blames every problem of its on its neighbors rather than itself instead of doing some self introspection..............
Same is done by our neighbors too. Why don't you ask your sasural to do self-introspection ?India blames every problem of its on its neighbors rather than itself instead of doing some self introspection..............

Why do you think so.
So there is not going to be any change, that is good. We have no plan to change to Arabic script either, I think people want to keep their tradition (Historical Continuity is always good).
Assamese/Bangla script is understood by at least 300 million people, which is West Bengal, Bangladesh and North East states.
The reason I ask that question is because there is people in India that want to re-introduce Sanskrit, make it popular and use Devnagari as the written script:

- I am sure there is Bengali style food, but the tribal or Assamese food, do they have curry spices like corrainder, cumin and turmeric?
- Is the cooking oil locally made in North East states or it comes from "mainland" India
- Are North East states open for tourists from all countries, or we have to get special permission, specially for US citizen?
- Is it safe?
