Nice to hear that ... when Tripura will become part of Bangladesh then definitely it will be helpful. I must admit we should not let you in such a sorry state back in 1947 when your king was begging to be a part of Pakistan.

West Bengal and North East states both speaks Bangla as either their main language or lingua franca. I have heard Assamese, it sounds like Bengali with a special dialect close to Sylheti, and I can understand almost 100%.

So I think these areas will always have some special relationship with Bangladesh, far into the future. After all they are immediate neighbors that share a common bond, language, which they do not with rest of India.

We do not need to promote greater Bangla or something like that using linguistic nationalism, but having good trading and other mutual relations will be good for these neighboring populations. Just thinking out loud.

Whether NE states want to stay with India or not, that is entirely their business. Whatever their popular wish is, that is what we should have moral support for as neighbors and well wishers.

Stop kidding yourself. Bengali is not spoken by the majority in any NE state except Tripura and it is not a lingua franca. None of the NE states except the bordering districts in Assam and Tripura share any cultural similarities with you guys in BD. As for Assamese being similar to Bengali, well it's similar because both the languages have common origin. Even Oriya is also quite similar for the same reason. Does it mean anything? NO. And Sylheti is quite different from the standard Assamese, it's only similar to a western dialect of Assamese Kamrupi. Kamrupi is as much different from standard Assamese as Sylheti is from standard Bengali. And don't lie, if you have just "heard" Assamese you won't understand it 100%. I have Bengali friends from Assam as well as from WB all my life, I know better.
