Installation of barbed wires at Torkham causes dispute

Just like you are crying over kashmir and loc issue they (afghans) are crying over durrand line issue and another thing people are talking like bomb Afghanistan put mines etc what if india does the same with the kashmiris what will u say and don't even think about it pashtuns on the both sides of the border will get pissed off if even one afghan gets hit look at kpk and fata what Pakistan has done to it they are brainwashing their own citizens and then when they are not useful they kill them in the name of national action plan blah blah stop killing pashtuns why so much hate about the pashtuns and please people of Pakistan wakeup or Pakistan will get eaten by these military and corrupt politicians (peace)
As india we have been dealing with thier crap. Almost one million indian army on Kashmiries with fence snipers sniffer dogs 24/7 watch tower if u still need to put mines go head do it on Occupied side of Kashmir...
Once it was durrand line now its border... why indian have to jump which is not their concern if they wanted to use as example let them use it we now know how to shut indians big mouth weather its media or their politicians..
Maybe u are unaware but mostly Pakistani pushtoons are the one whos is suffering cuz of no fence and Pakistani army have huge part of pakistans lovers pushtoon..
Lets put the fence and deport all afghanies its time for them to build their millions years old country with the help of ISAf..

Sealing the border i am 100% for it unless the ground realties change. I differ slightly on repatriation though, I think we should only force those people are involved in any criminal offences (except for traffic challans ) especially drugs, arms, stealing and kidnapping and especially terrorism. The terrorists should be punished and hanged but their families should be deported immediately within a week. For the rest of peaceful Afghans, we should make a more long term policies. Many of them have married here and have children...they are our brothers and our religion does not allow us to force them to leave or show any discrimination against them. Think about of millions of Pakistanis living abroad for 2, 3 generations.
If a christian living illeagle in US from many many years do u think they allow them to be part of it even UK dont accept illeagle parents who give birth in UK kid.. ground reality have been changed after 911.. we sud consider Pakistan and people who have been getting killed from TTP's terror mostly are trained by indians and afghanis.. put them bar deport them and once we settle down after zarb e azab then we consider to have their labour to work leaglley in Pakistan..till then they sud do what ever on their side and we do what ever on our side.

I don't think Tajiks/hazaras/uzbeks in Afghanistan mind if Pakistan fence the border or mine it. It's Afghan pashtuns because most of them depend on Pakistan for basic survival. It's not hard to understand why they will be against fencing of border to stop smugling, illegal movement of people, terrorism etc

I am Pashtun and my family back ground is from swabi, and i am all for the fencing of the border. If we can't fence it then lets take over the whole of Afghanistan.

It was proposed in Pervaiz Musharaf,s tenure but there was UN and EU pressure so this proposal was rejected however we need a realistic border policy fencing is useless in a mountain border where militants have used tunnel networks to operate

How many times has the EU listened to Pakistan on what they are doing wrong???? Now this takes me back to my point, SUPPORT this system so it can get Pakistan to a place economically where you have a strong enough of an economy that influences everyone.

Let's trade places, let's say it was India, instead of Pakistan next to Afghanistan. Would the UN stop them from mining, or putting a full wall on the border? HELL NO!! Why? Economic and business interests always win!! So focus on Pakistan and allow it to be where no one questions it, specially for protecting the Pakistani citizens, which is every government and military's natural rights!

I doubt there was that much pressure from the EU or the UN that the US couldn't clean up.
The US was all for it. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2005/sep/14/pakistan.afghanistan

Maybe nobody wanted to give Pakistan money for it. The US is still trying to find money for our own fence.

If we mine the border our gsp status will be revoked by EU its not like i fancy Afghanis in Pakistan its just that we need a workable and sustainable solution that doesnot harm our trade agreements
The Durand line was,is and will remain a major smugling point. The unregistered aliens are a security risk but i dont see the govt in near future even thinking about mining the border they know what the hypocritical reaction of UN and EU will be if we do that

Like I said again and again before.....if India did it or the French did it, you think there would be anyone threatening to cancel any trade agreements, etc? Back to my point, let Pakistani economy grow to where it is headed. In the next 5 years plus, you won't be taking any loans (unless they are for national projects like the entire globe does), and your economy will offer so much return to the West that all big guys would want to invest in Pakistan. And this noise will disappear....trade and business rules the world in today's global market!!

i think these afganies with their smuggling and terrorism are causing more harm and far outweighs the benefit of gsp status. eu is becoming more and more of a hippie union with every passing day i say mine the border we can regain the gsp status later.

That's actually not true. I've known these discussions so closely as if I was a part of it. The Afghan leadership threw a fit last time Mushy tried to bring up mining the border. It doesn't have any real significance to the Afghans but it does stop the terrorists from coming over into Pakistan, plus it also stops the weapons smuggling and other smuggling that happens from Afghanistan to Pakistan. So obviously, if they could stop it, it would damage Pakistan and that's in their best interest, supported by India. This is really India's strategy being played out by the Afghans.

So where was it stopped by the EU or the UN?
It sounds to me like Mushy needed funding and nobody wanted to pony up.

LANDI KOTAL: Tension further heightened between Pakistan and Afghanistan on Thursday and the two countries deployed tanks and armoured personnel carriers along the tense Torkham border besides sending more troops after their negotiating teams failed to resolve the border fencing dispute, political administration sources told Dawn.

The two countries have locked horns over the issue of fencing of some points at the border.

Pakistan has started fencing some vulnerable points of the border with Afghanistan to plug illegal and secret border crossings and movements of people.

The sources said that Pakistan sent army troops and additional Khasadar Force and Frontier Corps personnel on the border on Thursday in retaliation to Afghanistan’s reinforcement of its troops and border security forces along the border.

Afghanistan has objected to the border fencing and officially protested to Pakistan over the issue.

Because of the tense situation, the border remained closed for the third consecutive day.

Informed sources told Dawn that negotiating teams of the two countries briefly met at the Pakistan side of the border at around midday amid expectations that the issue would be resolved.

These expectations, however, proved short-lived as the meeting ended without reaching any agreement, much to the disappointment of scores of travellers and traders who have been stranded on both sides of the border for a couple of days.

The Pakistani team consisted of Sector Commander Brig Qayyum Paracha, Khyber Rifles Commandant Col Tariq Hafeez and Assistant Political Agent Rahimullah Mehsud while the Afghan team was represented by Border Police Commander Zabeehullah and Lt Col Nisar Ahmad.
