the title should be changed to

DO NOT INSTALL WINDOWS 10, EVEN IF IT IS FOR FREE

:P
We installed it on two systems in my office and both are giving some problems. Error on startup, the start menu is not opening, the control panel and settings are not working so we are having a hard time even to get back to windows 7 that we were originally using.

Have decided to wait for a few MONTHS, let the developer iron out the problems and then will go for it, i suggest you guys the same.

NOTE: This is my personal opinion and you guys may differ, go ahead with it then, i hope you do not face the same issues. :)

Come on ubuntu aint that hard besides most apps can run with wine and playonlinux

Yea, but why keep wasting your time on installing this and that. If Linux is needed by your specific work environment, good. We need simplicity, and that is what gets you mass adoption.

Do a fresh install. Upgrade to windows 10, note do what version it is, then make the bootable USB. Install from there after formatting.

There are many linux(-alike) destros. Ubuntu/Fedora for gereral purpose, they are resource heavy on GUI though because of the use of Unity or Gnome/KDE desktop environment. If you use laptop then Ubuntu Mate is good balance for easy of use/performance/resource management on battery. If use desktop then openSUSE also looks very professional-looking, and very easy to install 3rd party softwares on it.

Lubuntu or Xubuntu for old hardware, which Lubuntu's GUI looks familiar to Windows XP users. SUSE and Red Hat for enterprise users, Debian for personal linux server. Others worth mentioning are Arch linux for customisation, and last but not the least, Steam OS (which developed from Debian) for gaming, and only gaming, LOL. (It optimising your GPU performance, but auto-install will format your entire hard driver, UNLESS, you do an expert intallation.)

Right.

So will you sell your software for free? It's a product, and someone has to charge for it. Surprising that Windows still rules supreme in the number of computers running it for general purpose.

Simplicity?trust me for a casual user without all the window b/s lag linux is a better and safer(no antivirus required) option

Guess which os runs super computers?

If you have legit copy of windows 7/8/8.1, only then you're eligible for free upgrade.

Caution!!

The potential disaster in-waiting for Microsoft begins when millions of possibly unsuspecting Windows users launch a Windows update and end up installing Windows 10 without knowing what they are getting themselves into.

The worst-case scenario is that millions of Windows computers become inoperable because the upgrade failed. Any number of reasons may be to blame such as malware, aging hardware, disk corruption, outdated drivers, or just unexplainable Windows “glitches.”

Imagine for a moment that starting on July 29th, millions of Windows users suddenly can not use their computers. The tidal wave of support calls and complaints would be enough to bring any company to its knees, but even worse, the ensuing PR nightmare would be a bloodbath for Microsoft. A bloodbath that would likely go on for months and the stigma associated would linger for years.

Has this happened to anyone as yet? I'm not betting on Windows 10 as yet! My Win 7 is doing just fine.

Cheers!

There is a reason why Linux has not captured its due share in the Desktop/PC market and the reason for that is the attitude of the Linux community Itself. It is mostly geared towards the server Industry. Android is changing that but Android is not pure Linux

Windows Vista was the worst in terms of lag. I am pretty happy with the Windows 8.1 that cam on my laptop.

Linux is a good stable OS, for supercomputing you don't need lots of flashy graphics. You have optimized software, so the OS is just there to handle your CPU instructions. Hence it is fast, very fast. But despite being a free open source project, Linux and it's versions have failed to capture the normal market.

Why is it people still pay to get Windows rather than having free OS?

Not everyone is a nerd and you cant force someone to nerd up
Not every one wants to drive a heavily souped, turbocharged and moded dragster. Some people just want to drive a Toyota Corolla which does an awesome job of taking its passengers from point A to point B. That is exactly what windows does

Is Linux compatible with all applications/programs/software that runs on windows?
