Yeah Pakistan has some excellent allies:hang2: And India is a loner on the world stage.

Whats wrong with cheering for allies? Nothing, as long as you don't forget that your own house is in some serious disarray, cheer away :enjoy:

India 2025: What kind of superpower? - Economic Times

By Anil K Gupta.

Thanks to its functional institutions of democracy, India will become a very desirable kind of superpower, free of corruption; entrepreneurial and resource and energy efficient, says Anil K Gupta.

Within two decades or less, a rapidly rising India will very likely become the world's third largest economy - after China and the US. It would be appropriate to start speculating now on what kind of a superpower India will be or could be when it becomes one.

What funny logic. After 20 more years... they "might" become the 3rd largest economy... therefore they will be a superpower?

Meanwhile in the real world, China today is already the 2nd largest economy, yet we are nowhere close to being a superpower. Japan has been the 2nd largest economy for decades, yet they are not a superpower.

Yet somehow India, after 20 more years of growth, "might" become the 3rd largest economy and therefore become a superpower. OK.

Attacking India is easy for all those involved. It means tough questions like the rampant poverty in Pakistan, growing illiteracy rate growing unemployment and huge social/economic/religious divides don't have to be addressed. Of course India has problems but India is going a long way to correct these serious issues. What is Pakistan doing? Instead of trying to match/better India, Pakistan just belittles/pokes holes in India. This is why India is moving strides ahead and leaving Pakistan in her wake.

Purely a case of Pakistanis trying to dampen expectations for Pakistan in comparison.

Let's be honest who would you bet on? (bearing in my China is not in the equation and, as much as Pakistanis would like to imagine, a stronger China has little positive affects for Pakistan)

. . .
Typical Pakistanis, rather than debate the article..they make it about "super power" which the article is no way connectd..

Why does that not surprise me...Since they dont have anything to debate about- Check the world affairs section- all are anti- india threads opened by paksitanis..talk about obsession..;)

AREY CHILL yarr, thats their favourite past time one thing they are good at DIVERT ATTENTION FROM THIER PROBLEMS by bad mouthing india, next in line USA and NATO

It's your brain in doldrums.

we Pakistanis are not crazy, but we Pakistanis believe in Justice!

General Zia Ul-Haq, said to Rajiv Gandhi that if India tries to cover an inch of Pakistani territory, then we will annihilate your cities!

you can try but be rest assured pakistan will be wiped off the world map after it launchs the first strike. keep your chest thumping more it aint going to help.

.
India is never gonna b a "super"power.. THE internet indians should be happy if india even gets a title of a bigger power or great power which would even take atleast 30 years..........

ok.. agreed.. by the way, what is the status of Pakistan going to the moon and ruling the world from there.. Only 4 years left out of the 5 that Sir Zyed Hamid promised ;)

Oh I forgot, India has no allies! LOL!

Yeah.. And ain't we glad that we dont have allies that regularly send armed soldiers and helicopters into our territory killing our soldiers.. :)

Aise allies aapko hi mubarak ;)

.
so why are pakistanis crying over it,first the pakistanis should try mending their own home instead of having wet dreams over their allies development and then speak

.
I don't think any Indian ever said we are super power already..Yes, we may become super power..but that may be in 20 years or 50 years..who cares..we are on our way...

it is only Pakistanis who are jealous about our progress are thinking about our status than we are thinking about ourselves

adding to your joy, there are some eunuch's who can't even think beyond their suppressed pity and shameful life

Pakistanis are brought up with false illusion that they are always better than Indians (implying Hindus). They can not digest the fact that India is progressing while their country is going backwards..

.
This forum is soon going to follow the pattern of debate in Indian defnce forum lol :D

Pakistanis are speaking about India's economic growth which is btw 7 % more than double to that of Pakistan... Pakistan with an economy in doldrums, growth rate among the worst in the world can dream about becoming a super power..what a hilarious idea!!

I dont like such topics and debate but my dear Eastwest if a guy with two kids earn 5000 thousand Rupees and a guy with five kids earn 10000 RS. Which one is better here? :D

No doubt Indian GDP is doing well as compare to Pakistan which is because of political instability in pakistan from last five or 8 years but India is at no 161 in GDP per capita ranking table while pakistan is not too below at 175 so your GDP is not double or triple. According to Wikipedia India is at No 133(1,371 US dollars) while Pakistan is at 146(1,043 US dollars).

Secondly higher GDP alone is not enough to make a country super power. GDP per capita of Qatar is 179,000 US dollar while GDP per capita of india is ( 3,500). Can Qatar become super power when its GDP per capita is double/triple than US(47,200 US dollars)

well to be fair, indians are trying the best they can. their effort was clearly visible in the commonwealth games. if indians want to be incredible then why not? we all have our own methods of motivation. indians at the least deserve to dream.

i wish china would give india a helping hand, like a good neighbor. in africa, china is building schools and hospitals, we should do the same in india.

what a miserable country, they have my condolences.

Finally a sane headed talker..but why would China help a nuisance which talks about beating it and then co-op with USA against its neighbors ??

Pakistan could become a failed state: Romney

Washington: Hardening stance on Pakistan, leading Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has said the country is in danger of becoming a failed State.

"You're dealing with a nation like Pakistan, with a hundred-plus missiles, which is a fragile state, and could be become a failed state," Romney said.

In his speech at Nashua, New Hampshire, Romney said the world has become more dangerous.

"It's become more dangerous, and you recognise that. North Korea, over the last several years, has tested a nuclear device, has tested long-range missiles. Iran is, of course, arming Hezbollah, Hamas," he said.

"To a degree, Taliban, as well, has pursued their nuclear ambitions. Russia is acting in a more belligerent way with their neighbours and former satellites. China makes friends with some of the most unsavoury characters in the world. Whether in Burma/Myanmar, whether in Sudan, North Korea, China seems to be gathering a union of totalitarian states of some kind. The world is dangerous," Romney said.

"Our friends are in fragile settings, Israel in particular. With the development of the Arab Spring, that could be either some of the best news we've had in half a century or some of the worst, depending on how it turns out," he said.

"In a setting like this, this is no time for the United States of America to withdraw its commitment to a powerful and strong military. And a doomsday scenario for our military is not the right course, given where the world is headed," he said.

Romney said he actually thinks that there is a battle going on among the various players on the world stage to reshape the planet in their own way and their own liking.

"We, of course, want to see the expansion of freedom, free enterprise, across the globe. Yet, there are other models. There are a number of players who want to see an expansion of totalitarianism and are building a network of totalitarian states," he said.

"Having thrown aside, to a degree, communism or socialism as economic principles, they've grabbed onto a form of free enterprise, and by virtue of the power, economic power, of free enterprise, they have greater funding than they've had before and greater prosperity, and they're using that to build extraordinary military might," Romney said.

"Now, there's of course a third competitor, and the third competitor is the jihadist competitor... In a setting like this, the idea that we're going to devastate our military is simply unacceptable. I would call on the President to immediately introduce legislation which says we will not have a USD 600 billion cut to America's military," he said.

"When he was here four years ago, he spoke about bringing in a new era to the nation and getting our economy going," he said.

Pakistan ranks 12th on failed states index: Report

Pakistan ranked number 12 on a list of the “most failed states”, according to an annual report published in the Foreign Policy* magazine on Tuesday.

The report titled “The Failed States Index 2011” compiles a list of countries in terms of vulnerability. From refugee flows to poverty, public services to security threats, the list takes together a country’s performance on this battery of indicators to reflect its stability.

In both 2009 and 2010, Pakistan took the number 10 spot on this index, whereas in 2008 it was ranked number nine.

Amongst Pakistan’s neighbouring states, Afghanistan ranks 7 while Iran ranks 35. FP magazine states that these countries are on ‘alert’.

Bangladesh ranks 25, and Sri Lanka is 29 on this list.

China ranks 72, whereas India ranks 76 on the list. These countries are considered to be in the ‘moderate’ zone for vulnerability.

The US ranks 158, while the UK ranks 159.

The 2011 report states that Pakistan has long been dubbed the “world’s most dangerous country” in Washington policy circles. The report states:

Tick off any checklist of US national security concerns, and Pakistan has them all: nuclear weapons, terrorist and insurgent groups galore, and rampant anti-American sentiment. Add to all this a volatile political system, and it’s no wonder that Pakistan preoccupies so many Western security analysts.

The report adds that Pakistan is not just dangerous for the West – it’s often a danger to its own people.

It also states that the cultivation of militant groups by the Pakistani military and intelligence services – which the report states is a counterweight to India and a source of “strategic depth” in Afghanistan – has turned Pakistan into a “cockpit of terrorist violence”.

It adds that the country’s military leaders have made a “strategic” decision to allow the Pahstuns to govern themselves in what the report calls “ungoverned spaces” in the Pahstun-dominated badlands along the Afghanistan border.

The report cites terrorism and civilian deaths as one major reason for Pakistan’s position, adding that the 2010 floods displaced millions of people, adding to the instability of the country.

The top 20 failed states on this index are:

Somalia
Chad
Sudan
Congo
Haiti
Zimbabwe
Afghanistan
Central African Republic
Iraq
Ivory Coast
Guinea
Pakistan
Yemen
Nigeria
Niger
Kenya
Burundi
Burma
Guinea-Bissau
Ethiopia
