INSAS Excalibur & MCIWS Ghatak Assault Rifles to Replace Indian Army's Standard Issue INSAS Rifles

I would disagree mate.
Why AK's are termed more prefferd weapon of choice still. Excalibur is nothing but Try to Improve version of AK's. Again Gorilla :D warfare + 400 mtr of effective range is all required.

Only in jungle warfare, where the engagements never take place ranges beyond 40-50 meter..................in fact,on most occasions, the ranges are even shorter!!But for conventional warfare in open fields, with clear field of view, the engagements take place at ranges beyond 300 meter and for engaging targets at those kind of ranges, you need a rifle that can shoot straight and shoot hard. And for the rifle to be able to shoot straight to long distances,it needs to have a long barrel - laws of physics my dear, can't alter them.

Agreed
Avg range of most exchanges 300 to 500 mtr. Its tricky to create a balance between handling and range. 16 to 18 inch barrel considered adequate. Hence Bullpup rifles are the way to go.

What Army and ADRE may be trying to do here is to replace INSAS and AK's with Excalibur and Excalibur AR, following common parts hence logistics, field repairs can be made easier.

True, but 16" would be a bit too short for 5.56.If you need to go for 16" barrel, then you should standardize on the 6.5 Grendel. The rest is correct.

That's very much possible, lets see what happens.

Of course, some Zittaras have inevitably been captured by the Pakistanis, and the Pakistanis are reportedly working on reverse-engineering them.
Twilight 2000 Notes: Three production batches were built before 1998 Pakistani air strikes put the INSAS production lines out of action

@The_Sidewinder @surya kiran @Sneaker @Chanakya's_Chant @Echo_419 and other, ever heard of these incidents?? Zittara is not used by our SF, not even the original MTAR-21 is used by SF. only some paramilitary forces uses this.. and when did pakistan manage to capture these rifles from indian forces??

what did the author mean by 1998 pakistani air strike?? and how did it affect the production of INSAS which is manufactured 1000s of miles away from pakistani air force's maximum reach??

Indian Army is likely to issue a new RFI (Request for Information) for a new single caliber assault rifle to replace its INSAS rifle as reported last month.

Indian Army To Issue RFI For Assault Rifles To Replace INSAS

Issuing RFI's is not really an issue for the Indian Army - they are good at it - just like the recent FICV tender came as a total surprise! :D
