No major or significant damage to hull noticed.operational? That things a write-off....the frame's done, pretty sure the electronics on board wouldnt take too well to sea-water either
An Australian company with a very powerful crane has been contacted among several others for lifting the ship. That would be one heck of a job if Indian Navy is actually able to put this thing into action. But they have made a claim and I hope they'd stand by it - and we are all eyes and ears to know what they pull off out of this fail.
On a side note, unless India decides to cut this vessel in parts and then join them again, I don't see this thing getting straight.
More good news: scan by ultrasound machine shows no major damage to part of hull which touched ground.
No weaponry were on-board other than some 76.2 mm shells.
Only areas requiring repairs are engine room and replacement of mast and one radar.
Agreedone good news after another

Betwa got lucky it fell on soft and partially flooded ground so no major damage to hull and its electrical compartment didn't submerge.I doubt it.... navy is trying to save face..
While final assessment report will be submitted tmrw, initial assessment shows no major or beyond economic repair damage.Hold your horses fella. IN engineers will know better. Let them upright the ship, make a damage assesments.
we dont know whether navy is telling the truth... I hope navy is telling the truth but they might not be upfront about serious damage and tell us bad news later in small batches..Betwa got lucky it fell on soft and partially flooded ground so no major damage to hull and its electrical compartment didn't submerge.
So anyways it was already on a medium refit beginning April 2016, so it will be ready within that timeframe.

The main mast will have to be replaced though.
Nope.Does that mean Indian Navy will gain an operational target ship?
True, but given the situation and the fact that the frigate tilted slowly and did not slam to the ground means that major structural damage is unlikely.we dont know whether navy is telling the truth... I have zero knowledge on this matter.. so guess take your word for it...Nope.
It will regain/retain an operational anti shipping guided missile frigate.
