INS Arihant sails out of harbour

.
This sub is bigger than 6000.
Right now being towed, not under its own power.
I dont see active propeller.
No "wake"
Crews on the top.
Tugboat aside.

Those fins, or diving planes or hydroplanes, are control surfaces found on subs which allow the vessel to pitch its bow and stern up or down to assist in the process of submerging or surfacing the boat, as well as controlling depth when submerged.

They aren't used for changing the direction in the horizontal plane. That's the work of the good old rudder

But anyway, in the case of Arihant, those fins are termed 'fairwater' planes by USN. Fairwater planes do not pitch the ship up or down; they cause the ship to rise or sink on a level plane as they are operated. And they are no longer in favor in the new gen subs.

. . . . .
One question, the 24 knots is cruising speed or top speed. If its a top speed then its too low, even Scorpene has a top speed of 20 knots.

Nobody knows the top speed, its classified. That said; it will not be as fast as a SSN.
SSBNs are built for endurance on task.

. . .
This is my opinion, but they should extend the next boat and put in a dozen silos.

Bro they are doing quite good for a start, afterall, they are still a developing country and so have muich more other pressing needs to improve their people living standards, than building dozens of nuclear silos like the U.S or Russia for no good reason/gain. Afterall even their bigger/more advanced neighbour to the north, despite being the world's 2nd largest economy with alot of cash/capital, has just 5 nuclear subs(less than France and even U.K) though they have been building nuclear subs for almost 4 decades before India. So India planning to build about 6 of these subs today, its indeed an achievement giving their relatively smaller economy/GDP.
