Initiative to buy 16 warplanes for Tk 25,000 crore

Better second hand Refurbished and upgraded F 16 Block 52 for about 1 billion USD. I believe you can have at least around 30 planes since Indonesia with around 750 million USD can get 24 F 16 Block 52.

@Indos , you have a point. But bro , the reality of Bangladesh is different.

The article link I posted in Bengali. They say somewhere in the article that , "These planes are not only for war , but it's actually for mind game and strategic advantage against Myanmar and India " .

Now my opinion is EFT is good for strategic advantage . (EFT ,not Rafale , because India already got it and the page also said so.)

And also they wrote both Myanmar and India as political correctness.

But they know that Myanmar isn't threat as long as junta is in power, as it's well controlled by China.

So main and only threat in future is India , and the reason is clear. Lahore resuolation ( proposed by a Bengali named AK Fazlul Haque ) was the main obstacle to establish Akhanda Bharat before 74 years.

Later we can develop our own MRCA with the help of China or Turkey ,like Pakistan did.

Plz plz be gripen with TOT😪
It will be EFTs which will bleed BAF for decades.

BAF has no interest in Gripens at the moment but let us hope future leadership grows a spine and keeps expanding the fleet. Gripen with ToT is the best option for replacing the entire existing fleet and expanding further.

We can not buy F-16. The problem is USA is hedging India in Asia as a counter weight of China. And India is our biggest potential military threat. If we buy Americans, then we would be the prisoners of Indian+American whims. We will also loose support of China which can be our most crucial supporting country if any tension rises between Bangladesh and India. Indonesia does not have these constrains.

I dont get Bangladeshi members who keep talking about India threat. India is next door and very powerful. It is Myanmar who send 1 million Rohingya to your country and has territorial dispute over some waters and island that should be seen as the biggest potential threat. Unless you have land as massive as Xin Jiang, I dont think India has interest to swallow your nation.

I also dont get you guys keep talking nice about China and want to buy J 10 while they have supported Myanmar regime many times, including during recent UN attempt to make some kind of resolution to Myanmar.

I dont think its eurofighter.... Because this does not match with PM 's vision of building 4th G plane in BD.

If its Gripen + TOT then this matches with PM's vision and the expenses mentioned .

16 planes wont deter india and lets face it the current regime consider war deterence with Burma. So the enemy mentioned in the article could easily be burma.

I dont know why everyone is thinking Eurofighter

But India swallowed Sikkim and that was a very small land.

Small or big doesn't matter. The matter is strategic advantage.

Because unfortunately Bengali don't dig deeper and and always believe what they see with bare eyes.

Rohingya issue is an artificial issue created by su Kyi govt.

Our people don't understand that China will think their own interest before the interest of any other nation.

China can't afford losing Myanmar , as Myanmar is the root for China to access the bay of Bengal.

If in a full scale war break out , China will literally come to it's knees if they don't have the access to the bay of Bengal through Myanmar.

It's very easy to set a naval blockade in Malacca straight, and India has strong presence here though it's Andaman and nicobor Island.

So really a naval blockade of United States will make China kneel down.

So China must need Myanmar to access to the bay of Bengal to stand tall.

Unfortunately our civilians don't understand the reality and keep bad mouthing even our most trusted ally China.

Sure, even Indian army can hold BAF with S-400 deployment.
I wish BD could go for gripen. Reliable plane, but not with AAMRAM. It can have meteor to keep Myanmar SU-30s at bay. But meteor are very expensive.
Plus single engine fighter are cheap to procure, cheap to maintain, and cheap to operate.. Can gripen fire, AAMRAM @Indos ? Also, you cna buy AWACS from Sweden when you have bought Gripen.

'Bay of Bengal is not sterile, US can use Andaman island to attack any logistic ships coming from Myanmar if full scale war happen as India will side to US.

Any way if China has cozy relation with Indonesia, it can use Makassar straits and go to Indian Ocean after passing Sunda straits without the need to pass Malacca Strait.

I believe the reason China support Myanmar is due to religion. Budish is basically Atheist religion, so it is not surprise if even Singapore, Vietnam, and Japan also support Myanmar when UN tries to make a resolution. In the past East Asia is a Budish nation and still has huge followers there, Sinto in Japan is Japanese Budish version for example.

EFT is what I am hearing from defence circles.
The numbers also add up if the 3 billion figure reported is true.
The PM has no plan to build 4th gen fighters, at least not just yet. People read too much into platitudes. She wants to get BAC moving so that they can build something. MRCAs are not tied to BAC in any way.

However agree with you in that Gripen with ToT is a no brainer.

Do you really want to replace the F-7s? PAF has quite a number of F-7s, and IAF also has also a good number of Mig-21 which is the Russian predecessor of Chinese F-7. Do we really have to scrap them?
F-7MBs need immediate replacement. BG and BGIs will have to stay. They are not bad for point defence.

The news says about buying foreign planes and you are talking about our great PM's vision. Is not it mismatching?

You cannot use Sikkim as analogy, it is very different. Just to give you an example, why India is risking to challenge powerful China there to hold it while it can actually steal Bangladesh land which is much much weaker than China.

Similar like Indonesia will go to war with Singapore if Singapore try to steal a small island near Singapore strait. It is more about dignity than any thing else.

Sikkim, I dont know the history, but in the past nation try to grab as much land as it could. Indonesia also invaded East Timor and during Soekarno time, Indonesia want to invade Malaysia. As technology become more advance, grabbing more land doesnt necessary make you become more wealthy. We have passed that period already.

Yup, Sikkim might be quite strategic, maybe it is related to the origin of Indian rivers or it is a way to defend North East as China also still consider North East India as their historic territory since they captured big part of Tibet already.

Most PAF F7's are phased out by over 100 JF17 thunders and the F7pg's are used as a LIFT
aircraft to train pilots.

She never said we will build 4th gen fighters. However, you have to admit her initiative to start a aircraft manufacturing/assembly industry im BD is a noble one. We cannot become a developed country by only stitching undies.
Whether BAF morons make use of the PM's initiative to make some basic spares of fighter jets is a different discussion.
