Indo-Bangla military exercise begins today

Commandos of Bangladesh Army will begin a two-week joint military exercise on counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations with Indian commandos at Jalalabad Cantonment in Sylhet today under the mandate of United Nations.

The small-scale exercise styled “Sampriti-II” involving 25 para-commandos from each country would develop professional expertise of both armies aiming to strengthen their relationship.

This is the first-ever joint exercise to be held in Bangladesh. Earlier, “Sampriti-I” was held at Jorhat in Assam from November 1 to 14, 2010, where 25 members of Bangladesh Army headed by a Lieutenant Colonel participated, says a press release of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) yesterday.

Indian Army members of the elite 21 Para (Special Forces) battalion headed by Major SY Mahadik arrived at Osmani International Airport yesterday morning by an Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft AN-32 from Jorhat, Assam.

They would return from Sylhet by IAF aircraft on October 23.

Diplomatic sources said the exercise constitutes an effective diplomatic tool of India towards its “immediate” and “strategic neighbourhood” and “priority nations” towards enhancing overall strategic ties and cooperation between the militaries.

In the wake of improved relations with Bangladesh during the Sheikh Hasina regime in Dhaka, they said India wanted to improve defense ties with Bangladesh.

Alll the BD-India military exercise should be done in Indian Territory. There wont be any war in BD territory in near future so why not give them first hand experience where the actual War will take place.

BD does not need any kind of joint BD-India military exercise, because these exercises are meant to send a message to the NE Freedom Fighters that BD and India will jointly counter theior insurgency. India has been insisting this kind of exercise since after the last election. One such exercise was held in Indian territory, but this one is in BD territory. I cannot support this.

Last year it was held in India. They will alternate it, this is how it usually works with other countries too.

too much of redbull eh ? better start investing in floating houses, soon you ppl will be floating in bay of Bengal. and god speed the Indo-bangladesh border fencing project, and please install a automatic machine guns on the fence at every 200 feet so that any thing tries to come closer to Indian border is shot just after it crosses no man's land.

Nope the military exercise which suppose to take place in India was cancelled. India was little uncomfortable to let BD paratrooper to get into NE.

Bd aint gonna fight for india, unless the two of us are fighting a common enemy in war. Anyway the operations were held in assam, now sylhet so there is not much geographical difference if we train in different territories.

However, since this is a commando exercise, i would like to see our troops having the chance to train in either the dessert or the mountains.

we daily see your real men, women scattered all over India creating slum and trying to make Indian Ration card...operation BLUE against them is the only solution left i guess

we have no problem with bangladesh except for their illegal immigrants..i wish and hope bd govt along with support from Indian govt solve this ASAP
