Indigenous Automobile Development Efforts

It has been 4 years since this indigenous car issue has been started to talk.... İşin babaları burada yerli otomobil üretelim - Milliyet Haber

And not an inch of improvement.....Hyundai came with ix35 Hydrogen car at this time.. And our leaders are still talking non-sense slang language... like babayiğit and etc....

About the news....like i said before....i'm so sick of this"we will do this and that" news.... for fvcks sake, say "we did this" for a change....

Tech. Minister said till 2020... Let's see...

Turkish ASELSAN, IBM to develop battery for electric cars

Turkish defense company ASELSAN and IBM have signed a deal to develop batteries that will enable electric cars to make journeys of five times the current distance after being charged, the company said by a written statement Nov. 24.

The agreement was signed by ASELSAN General Manager Faik Eken and IBM Vice President Kenneth J. Keating Jr. to conduct research and development activities together on Metal-Air batteries for use in electric cars during the initial stage.

The companies will then start to develop a new generation of batteries.

“Metal-Air Batteries, which are planned to be developed jointly by ASELSAN and IBM, will be able to have five times more power storage capacity than a Li-on battery. The new batteries will thus become a milestone on the road to resolving a range of problems in electric cars,” said the statement. An electric car with Li-on technologies could travel 160 kilometers (100 miles) after being charged, but the new Metal-Air technologies will enable such cars to travel 800 km (500 miles) after being charged, according to the statement.

ASELSAN and IBM will also cooperate in developing integrated circuits for a series of different radar technologies.

ASELSAN and IBM to Cooperate in Research and Development | News | Press Room | ASELSAN

ANKARA, TURKEY Nov 20, 2014:
IBM Research (NYSE: IBM) and ASELSAN have signed collaborative development agreements concerning research and development of Metal-Air Battery Technologies and Millimeter Wave Integrated Circuits. Both companies shall work together on these projects, and through these efforts Aselsan will enhance its in-house research and development activities.

ASELSAN and IBM Will Develop New Generation Metal-Air Batteries for Automobiles

aselsan_ibm_pg2.jpg
The Metal-Air Batteries to be developed will provide at least 5 times more storage capacity than current Li-Ion Batteries while preserving the same weight. These Metal-Air batteries will deliver more storage capacity at a lower cost than existing batteries, which will significantly reduce the cost of energy. Consequently, these new batteries will be a critical automotive component in resolving range issues for electric vehicles. Today, a family car can scarcely travel 160 km (100 miles) using existing Li-Ion batteries, whereas the new Metal-Air technology batteries will increase this range up to at least 800 km (500 miles).

ASELSAN Will Develop RF Imaging Systems for Civilian Aviation
aselsan_ibm_pg3.jpg

The cooperation between IBM and Aselsan is not limited to Metal-Air Batteries. Circuitries to be developed by integrating IBM and Aselsan generated technologies will create a brand new technology basis for the development of new RF imaging capabilities. Millimeter Wave Integrated Circuits to be developed will be used for collision avoidance in vehicles, border security, airport security applications, meteorology and various civilian RF imaging applications such as autonomous landing systems.

Dude the Turkish part is translation of title "Brave Man for Indigenous Automobile Founded"

We were waiting for a businessman to produce our indigenous automobile and we found it... His name will be announced in the following days...

I hope it will be good...

is he making this car secretly in his basement that no one yet knows his name. is he making it single handed

Hopefully this one will be the real deal. We have been hearing news like this for years.

For decades actualy, thats why im reserved when it come to indigeous car, i will only cheer when i see a solid result, lets say when the actual serial prodction starts, i have seen too many ''Turkish Car'' prototypes.

So they will show some photos within few days. That's great!

But if Tubitak is going to develop this are they also going to mass produce it? Are they going to establish a government owned company/brand for serial production or are they going to transfer the project to a private company or something?

there are going to transfer it to private company... ;)

Battery work is uptodate: However I should add that work also should be done on "Solid State Batteries". Which are like computer Integrated Circuits to hold electrical charge. They will have better energy and power densities than all other types once they are there. It is possible to do it in Turkey now as the work on building IC foundries is underway.

80 km range for the all electric type should be increased by half to broaden its usability envelope in bigger cities. I wouldn't go for much longer ranges for the beginning as the batteries will most likely be inported at the beginning and will hinder the cars usability with its heft and will bring it to an unusable weight class.

What kind of self inconfidence is that, that they want to base the car on somebody elses design while even the Koreans with poor history can pull it off way better. Disappointing.

Swedish Saab, British Frazer Nash, Malaysian Proton. And which part of this car will be build by Turkish companies? lmao :D

Sometimes it is better to buy a car producing company (including all patents) rather than investing billions in academic research. For an example, the Chinese are operating in that way in Europe with German companies. After acquisition process they transfer the complete technical and unique know-how to China.
