India’s Chabahar gambit

Just spot and prove the odd in his opinion, you are making no point by calling someone a worst than third grade analyzer. Lets see where his analysis is inaccurate, we are all eyes and ears!

oh that is very simple and I will indulge. I suggest you read the transcript of Ghani's speech in Delhi to understand what he wants - it is no secret at all. As is custom with Pakistani military and Foreign service, they are all illiterate who always miss the main purpose of any initiative and just turn it into a 'whole universe is plotting against us' nonsense!

Here are some quotes from Ghani in Delhi:

"In the next 15 years, we will become the largest producer of copper in the world, the largest producer of iron in the world, one of the largest players in the gold market globally, and we have 14 of the 17 rare earth material. Our marble resources are enough to last the region 400 years, our construction material. 33% of Afghanistan’s natural resources have been mapped, the estimated worth is from $1 to $3 trillion. With India’s and China’s transformation, this natural wealth awaits to become part of a continental framework."

"we are a country of the poor people with enormously rich individuals. We have money, but we do not have capital. And the difference is, money does not become productive. In order for money to work and to become an agent of transformation, it has to become capital. And thereby, again, comes the immense experience of the region. India’s creativity in terms of financial instrument, in terms of the range of funds, and the enormous power of the Indian diaspora to transform money into wealth is one of the key issues. "

"Delhi, you can begin with having breakfast in Delhi, lunch in Peshawar and dinner in Kabul. I hope that what is immensely possible, can become actually achievable. And the day, when I will drive after retirement from Kabul to Delhi, I look forward to dedicating my life to creating this possibility of cooperation."

Your former foreign service fool absolutely missed all this didn't he? any wonder Pakistan got itself isolated?

Its win-win situation for India.
India will use the Gwadar port to trade with China and Chabahar port to trade with Iran and Afghanistan.

THAT is the whole point. I wish Pakistani foreign service had some people like you who can actually think

.
As i said before, Chabahar and Gwadar are not in the same league. Chabahar is only 30-35 feet deep, meaning PANAMAX ships will have a hard time docking. Gwadar is around 60 feet deep. It can handle literally any ship that is going to be made in the next 200 years.

Plus, the fact of which countries are building the port.

This is what China did to their port in just 30 years

And this is India's accomplishment.

So really Pakistan doesn't need to worry about Chabawho

Why is Indian sponsoring of port in Chabahar automatically assumed as merely an attempt to counter Gwadar?

It is public knowledge that Pakistan continues to deny India Trade access to Afghanistan and beyond through Wagah. What was India supposed to do? Continue to be held hostage to Pakistan's whims?

India only chose to do what was in its control - that is to develop an alternative route to fulfill its own objectives of trade with Central Asian countries.

Since Chabahar is the only viable route available for India, the question of comparing the merits of Gwadar vis-a-vis Chabahar doesn't even arise. How does it make any difference to India even if Gwadar is the best port in the whole known universe when it isn't even available for use by India?

Its win-win situation for India.
India will use the Gwadar port to trade with China and Chabahar port to trade with Iran and Afghanistan.

India already has 3 border trading posts with China. And Western Delhi-Mumbai Freight corridor and Eastern Corridor already cover all 3 trading posts (almost to the last mile).

In any case, with bilateral trade imbalance ridiculously heavily in favor of China, it is their headache to find the most optimal route to ship their exports to India. Why should India be bothered with that?

Lol, is at all that irks you? Okay!

Beautiful words and absolutely justified but don't refute what author of the article has said! The last paragraph indirectly comments on the normalization of the relations between three countries, under current states of affairs I highly doubt a native of Delhi can have his/her lunch in Peshawar. He's looking forward to dedicate his life to create such possibility of cooperation. Read this part bit carefully - In order for money to work and to become an agent of transformation, it has to become capital. And thereby, again, comes the immense experience of the region. India’s creativity in terms of financial instrument, in terms of the range of funds, and the enormous power of the Indian diaspora to transform money into wealth is one of the key issues.

You have access to to these transcripts of his emotional speech but do you have access to Mr. Ghani's statement at Asia summit that don't make us a proxy war battlefield? He repeated exact statement in his interview to NDTV a few days before his departure to Delhi, watch it. Also do you know before his visit to India he visited Pakistan and China? And in China his speeches were quite similar to ones he made in India, urged Chinese investors to invest in mining sector. China is the biggest investor in Afghanistan maybe it's new and informative to you. The coordination between ANA and PA has reached to new heights, ANA unlike in past has arrested and killed many Pakistan wanted insurgents in Afghanistan. ISI chief had covertly visited Afghanistan two days ago for reasons nobody knows and it was not his first visit. Pakistan PM and COAS are going on a official visit to Afghanistan today. President Ghani is focusing on trade route through Pakistan more than Chahbahar port.

A speech alone is not ample to understand levels of developments.

Afghanistan won't be able to export even half a kg of its minerals to India in 100 years let alone 15 years if, God forbids, civil war resurfaces in its full swing.

Please don't post unnecessary words of wisdom to prove your superiority over author.

BTW the China aid is conditioned on Pakistan raising a pretty large dedicated security force --- dedicated to be watchmen for the Chinese workers and engineers. Pakistan has decided to carve this force out of its gallant military. There should be pretty strong competition amongst these gallants to join that watchmen brigade. How is that going?

and how exactly Afghanistan gonna provide security to Indian workers working on that corridor and how exactly Iranian gonna prevent attacks by Balochi insurgents at their part of the land ? Last I heard that Balochi insurgents are more active and deadly at Irani side of the land than Pakistan. Funny to see Indian totally ignoring the security in Afghanistan and Irani side while so much concerned about Pakistan lol.

.
Lmao what exactly is India gonna be trading to Afghansitan that we are so in disadvantage?? Burqas?
Atleaste they would have room to breathe, they had been suffocating under your west india company.

@ topic

I have already said in some other thread that Chabahar mini port is result of Indians being paranoid after hearing breaking news of heavy thefty investment of Chinese for Gwader Port and to counter that they have to calm their insecure tits down without realising the fact that Chabahar is even not a port yet while Gwader has started exporting goods already.

.
right, from Pakistani Foreign Service member. When these guys actually were in service they managed to screw up EVERY relation, including with iran, usa, china and BD. now vthis vguy writes as if hr knows anything about international relations. A 3rd grader would have analyzed better...heck even zaid hamid would do btr than this joke
Its ok... Its quite interesting and amusing to read what real pakistani diplomats think and their worldview.

genius, that is pathetic man...try again!

so you are happy that somebody didn't call you a terrorist for a change? And your argument is based an Afghan guy visiting China asking for Chinese to invest?

That is a pretty damning confession from you

And your point is based on that some excerpts from speech that proves zilch. I though I would get to learn something, thank you for proving me wrong. Peace

Do you what a Dredger is?

It is ship which excavates underwater and disposes off the sand at different location.
Any port in the world can be dredged to handle a ship of any draught..you just need the will and resources.

Fact of the matter for now Afghanistan just cannot provide security of any kind to their own people let alone others. Let's consider a very unlikely hypothetical scenario where fighting/insurgency/terrorism ends in Afghanistan today - still it will require atleast couple of decades for Afghanistan to have a stable police and paramilitary forces to provide security in that part of their land since civil war among Afghanis will take time to end completely. That's the only reason why Pakistan is very much reluctant to go for TAPI despite of American backing for years. Stability and business in Afghanistan is a dream for now. As US leaving Afghanistan by next year, poor Afghanistan will be on the mercy of Talibans once again hence it is imperative for Ghani Govt to deal with Talibans as much as possible and keep Pakistan in loop in all the matters even at the cost of relations with India for next 10 years or so. Failure to this will end India's entire dream of accessing Afghanistan and beyond via Chahabar or even Pakistan.

I don't see the big deal in India building a port towards the Gulf of Oman, China is doing the same.

Chahbahar is a priority for Ghani which he has stated numerous times. It was atop of the agenda during his visit to Iran recently as well in India. Negotiations on the terms of transit are almost final between Afghanistan and Iran. Bureaucracy and custom procedures are too cumbersome for Afghan traders using the Karachi port. The Iranians are offering a much better deal. Plus our trade will be vulnerable to Pakistan's political whims, and there has been good examples in recent years through deliberate disruptions etc. Regardless of the Indians, the Iranians are looking to transform Chahbahar in to a regional trading port. Pakistan can of course compete and offer a better deal if it wishes to.
