The Su-30MKI suffers from technical problems in the fly-by-wire systems and radar warning receivers.

NEW DELHI — Ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Moscow Dec. 24-25, India's autonomous auditing agency Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) says the Russian-made Su-30MKIaircraft with the Indian Air Force (IAF) suffer from poor serviceability, which is just around 55 percent to 60 percent against the prescribed norm of 75 percent.

The 218-page CAG report tabled in Indian Parliament Dec. 18 notes that the operational readiness of Su-30MKI was low due to high rate of AOG (Aircraft on Ground), low serviceability and less achievement in flying hours.

An IAF official said the high rate of AOG means that out of 210 Su-30MKI with the IAF, around 115-126 aircraft are grounded for repairs and serviceability, which the officer said affects the combat worthiness.

The Su-30MKI suffers from technical problems in the fly-by-wire systems and radar warning receivers, the IAF official said.

The poor serviceability is mainly on account of lack of spares, which come from Russia. IAF has lost six Su-30MKI since it received the first batch in 2002.

India has so far ordered a total of 272 Su-30MKI which are license produced in India by state owned Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). India originally received the standard Su-30MKI but later worked with the Russians to license produce the Su-30MKI with thrust vectoring engines.

"IAF has changed the maintenance drill of the Su-30MKI after finding that there are maintenance problems with the engine. So far, around 35 engine failures in the Su-30MKI have been noticed, including failures on account of power plant," another IAF official said.

Agreement on spares

India has been talking with Russia to set up production centers for spares in India for Su-30MKI.

India's Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar, during his November visit to Moscow discussed the possibility of setting up a joint venture between Russian and Indian domestic companies to produce spares for Su-30MKI and a final agreement could be announced during Modi's visit to Moscow, a Ministry of Defense official said.

Meanwhile, the producer of Sukhoi aircraft, United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) of Russia, is also holding talks with other domestic companies, including the Tata group of industries, Reliance Infrastructure, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), and Bharat Forge on setting up a joint venture for manufacturing spares for the Sukhois, a Ministry of Defense source said.

Well nothing thts not expected. Russian aircrafts in general suffers from seevicability issues due to lack of spares. By the way, most modern aircrafts including sukhois, f16 etc had suffered from fbw issues in the past. Situation will improve in future for sure.

Russia has always been considered a second class industrial power compared to their Anglo Saxon adversaries. Russia always fields large number of soldiers and equipment against forces with superior quality - this is the lesson from history. As individuals can hardly change his/her "fitret" (habits/nature/characteristics etc.), and so is a nation. While buying Russian we need to remind ourselves that. They are not US class ultra smarts in matters of "real time systems", which require extensive fault tolerance and exceptionality handling capabilities, or are fanatical about reliability/quality like Japs, or extraordinarily adept in metallurgy or mechanical systems like the Germans. Moreover, they lack the ruthless work ethic and straightforwatdness of the Saxons. They are arrogant, and overconfident, and prone to tragedies as are their systems!!

Paper tigers, lol half the fleet is grounded, compared to them PAF is a lean mean fighting machine.
In a showdown situation the indians can always ask pakistan "hey hang on 5 mins, were servicing".

You know shit about the level of preparedness of your armed forces, let alone the shortcomings of each of your fighter jets and other weapons.
Show us your audit report on fighter jets. Oops sorry, I forgot, PAF doesn't have balls to conduct such an audit. First form something like CAG in your country then talk.

@Zarvan

Auditors write what they are TOLD to write
To confuse our enemies and keep them guessing and searching for facts

You can believe all this at your own peril

. .
the first step towards solving a problem is to find it and accepting that there is one.
No one Denying it the first reason to post CAG report in public domain.

Although is Basic Audit report not technical report on the aircraft

First thing PAF should show a balls to conduct offensive operations

For decade's we are hearing PAF sham of defense oriented force

The last time they refused to fly more combat missions. Pakistan can ask the Indians, "hey couple of years later, we are REQUESTING FREE SPARES"

Hit the nail in the head brother, very succinctly put. If get a chance read about how Russians played with Elon Musk when he was trying to get the SpaceX up and running.

So whats the service of the Malasyian and Chinese Flankers? Last I heard the Malaysians didn't even have the ground equipment.
